"...."
I stood by the rocky pavement and looked at what used to be a school building. 'What... is this place?'
Well, i think it's not gonna have the same use anymore. It's no ordinary school from what i can see, looking more like a half-done-renovated training camp.
'Seems like i'm gonna stay here for who-knows how long.'
The black bus loudly took off after dropping 'us' here. Far away and disappeared into the forest without a trace.
I oddly don't remember how i got here... i tried hard to remember what happened but in the end i heaved a sigh in defeat. The crowd chatters rose up, i glanced at each one of them briefly- scanning them.
I guess there's no use asking the others because they look just as confused.
I shook away the uneasy feeling and looked around for a while. I assume we're stuck in the midst of the forest near the mountains. As i proceed further- just by then i've already arrived inside.
......
There were more people than i thought when i got inside. Thankfully the place is big enough to fit us all newcomers.
And some of them looked quite... unique...?
Blue skinned people-- woah, reminded me of that one movie Avatar. There's even red skinned people? That's new.
Then, there's the usual human beings; White, black, asian, and etc. I don't really know if there's still more. I can only see that there's just so many of us here.
I raised my eyebrows, feeling quite amazed and confused at the same time as i kept on discovering more 'beings'.
'Am i seeing this right? How is there Aliens here?'
What year is this? How did they get dragged into this mess? It's like every kind we didn't knew existed are here. Did they somehow got kidnapped to be here? Did i got kidnapped too?
The moments of my curiosity got cut short as i was being harshly demanded(shoved) by the guards to get through the hallway.
As i was already through the hallway, i dart my eyes at the guy who suddenly caused a ruckus behind with the guards, not far from where i'm standing.
A white average 5'9 bald guy- shouting in panic as he try to resist. Heard he needed some explanation on why he was here.
Poor guy got beaten up though, questions left unanswered. Some girls immediately stood up for him, trying to protect him.
I just watch the bloody fight happen near me as i felt my heart pounding- i tried backing up a bit not wanting to get involved.
'Holy shit. They literally killed the guards with no hesitation...'
Some of them did it without a scratch on them, quite brutal on how they off'ed the guards like that. Guess they could atleast survive here and got some reputation to not mess with them. For now.
After that, they seem to hurriedly loot the guards while they can. My eyes met with one of'em suddenly, i jumped a little at the sudden eye contact-- 'God, that gave me a fright...'
As she stood up after looting the guards (bloody)body, she approached me and held my hand- giving me a gun. (got some blood on it though.)
"If you want to survive in this hellhole, you're gonna need this."
We talked for a bit as she also gave me instructions on how to use it properly for a good while. When i understood, she gave me a pat on the shoulder with a smile.
"Goodluck Y/N, i hope we can see eachother again sooner or later. It was nice meeting you, and don't be afraid to believe that we can survive this okay? Take care Y/N."
She waved me goodbye and i waved back with a 'Thankyou!' as she jogged back to her group. I hope this isn't the last time i saw her.
I observed the handgun- tracing along it, the blood on it already dried up. I popped the ammo out- has 19mm bullets, good thing it's still full. I put the ammo back in. I checked the gun once again to make sure the safety clip was on, and just then i saw the gun type. 'BUL..M-5... hm, okay.'
Now feeling a little secure, i put it in my back pocket safely as i hide it along my black t-shirt.
.......
I don't know what i was waiting for with the others, the guards even already secured the area to prevent anymore "ruckus". Are we being delayed or something?
Just then, a group of aliens- well, they definitely looked like aliens with those rubbery shiny like skin, weird shaped head, and those deer feets. They go down the stairs as a group of five or six, armed.
While to the left and right are hallways with rooms alongside it, in front of me are stairs, right side leads to downstairs- it seems like they were being tested there.
I heard some monsters roared loudly, booming through the walls in the building. Gross thing is, the walls around it are flesh, moving like a heartbeat as if it was a body.
It wasn't long until they returned as a group, lucky. But it's kinda weird because they arrived from upstairs- left side of the stairs. Meanwhile the flesh around the walls dissolved as if they passed the test, defeated the monster which who knows how the monster looks like. I bet it's horrendous.
The flesh came back alive after it dissolved, waiting for anyone to defeat it again as a part of the test.
These aliens literally acts like a bunch of kids, like this is nothing to them. one of them even cartwheeled their way out to the hallway. Oh to be that carefree and relaxed in this hellhole.
Then a loud siren echoes through the entire building. Then a voice through the comms said;
"Go to the rooms in the hallway immediately, each one of you will be chosen into that room by the people in it that has occupied the room from last year. Wether you like it or not, you will have no choice but to join them as a group in that room. Goodluck. I hope you all survive for the future."
The comms then died out.
Bunch of people start moving and crowd the hallway, now i can see why they said "someone" will choose us newbies to be in the room. It's definitely like getting new teammates.
.......
I've been walking along the crowds for quite a while now, and i saw tons of different rooms each with different people as well in it. It's like the hallway is endless, how long has this been going on?
Just right then, i saw a wavy black-haired girl with a gas mask and a red bandana wrapped around her neck. She's a few inches shorter than me as i walked near her, then she spotted me. She looks pretty similar to someone, but who?
She stared at me with those sharp feline-eyes while looking into the crowd outside her room. She's too pretty to be in this hellhole, 'She's definitely one of those leaders in that room' because i thought she's obviously looking for teammates.
Just as i was gonna walk near her room, she suddenly grabbed me by the arm and pulled me in.
Now that i'm in her reach, she took off her gas mask. i recognized her. She's a close friend of mine at school before.
Wait, is she tearing up?
But, why the fuck is Haerin here?
While my mind and heart are racing, she jumps towards me- kinda stumbled a bit, but i managed to balance right back and she hugged me tight. That definitely didn't help slowing down my heartbeat, blush crept up upon my face. Calm down now Y/N.
"Where have you been? I've been looking for you all this time, i thought i was never gonna see you again.." she mumbled, her breath tingles my neck. I hugged her back, i said i missed her as much too and apologized for making her worry.
Savoring in the moment for a few minutes, (it's not like i'm complaining ig) Haerin pulled back from the hug and scanned my face as if it's the first time seeing my face. It made me quite emotional that someone still cared about my existence.
I kinda teared up a little bit. Haerin saw it and she reached with her hand to cradle my face, trying to comfort me.
i can't help but to smile seeing her again. She smiled back.
wait... what is she..?
My smile dropped.
The next thing i never expected was her other hand occupied with a gun that is already pointed at my head. Since when did she do that?
"....."
A hint of pityness on her face as she tried to apologize through her eyes.
"I can't Y/N..."
"Why..?"
"I've lost so many Y/N, i can't risk losing you... i-i'm too tired to face it so many times... restarting again and falling again."
I see. I also pointed my gun on her jaw as i smiled at her, trying to understand and reassure her.
P.s. OKAYYY SOOO.... I JUST DREAMED ABT THIS AND... YEAH. I tried to make it as good as possible but atp my brain is melting and it ended up like this :> SORRY IF IT'S NOT MUCH..

You don't notice it right away. Or rather, you do notice, but you chalk it up to something elseâfatigue after a long day at school, another argument with her parents, the general mood that Maddy Perez possesses, as changeable as April weather. She's sitting next to you on the couch in your living room, legs tucked under her in white ankle socks, scrolling through her phone with an expression so focused it looks like she's reading the terms of a nuclear agreement rather than someone's Instagram stories. Her nailsâlong, almond-shaped, coated in perfect red polishâtap rhythmically against the screen.
You place a hand on her knee, and she doesn't flinch, doesn't pull away, but she doesn't cover your palm with hers either, the way she usually does. She just keeps scrolling.
"Everything okay?" you ask, squeezing your fingers slightly.
"Absolutely," Maddy replies without looking up. Her voice is even, almost sweet, but you've been with her long enough to understand: this doesn't bode well. Maddy Perez has a particular talentâshe can wound more deeply with the word "absolutely" than another girl could with a string of curses.
You decide not to push for now. In two years of dating, you've learned the cardinal rule of life with a hurricane named Maddy: when she's simmering, it's better to give her some space. She'll let off steamâshe'll tell you. Or show you. Maddy's emotions usually come bursting out fast and flashy, like confetti from a party popperâbright, loud, followed by chaos. But today is different. She's quiet. That unnerves you.
You return to your homework, though concentrating is already difficult. You watch her out of the corner of your eye. Maddy sets her phone down face-first, adjusts her hairâyou know this gesture by heart: she runs her fingers through at the roots, slightly lifting the dark strands so they fall with more volumeâand finally looks at you. Her gaze sweeps across your face like a searchlight, looking for something.
"You had a fun time at lunch today," she says.
It's not a question. It's a statement, delivered with a faint hint of polite conversation that conceals a trap.
You freeze for a second, replaying lunch in your mind. Yeah, you were sitting on the bench in the courtyardâyou, Cassie, Lexi, and a couple of kids from another class. Maddy was at cheerleading practice at the timeâthey have a big performance coming up, and rehearsals have been more frequent. You remember laughing at some joke Lexi made about the school play, and then helping Cassie decode texts from her new boyfriend, while she chirped away nonstop, as she always does.
"It was fine," you answer cautiously. "Why?"
Maddy tilts her head slightly to the side. Her lips, lined with a pencil a shade darker than her lipstick, curve into the semblance of a smile that doesn't reach her eyes at all.
"Just curious. You two looked really cute together."
Wait. 'Together'? With who?
"Are you talking about Lexi?" you ask, trying to find your footing.
"About Ethan," Maddy breathes the name out like something sour on her tongue, and turns away, picking up her phone again. She's not scrolling nowâjust holding it, turning it in her fingers like an expensive toy.
Ethan. Oh god. Ethan is the new guy from biology class, the one you were paired with for a lab assignment last week. He did sit with your group at lunch, because he doesn't really know anyone else at school yet. He's funny, a little awkward, and absolutely, one hundred percent, holds no romantic interest for you. You can't even remember if you looked in his direction for longer than five seconds.
"Mads," you set your notebook aside and turn your whole body toward her. "Ethan is just a guy from class. We're doing a project on photosynthesis together. That's it."
"I know what photosynthesis is," she cuts you off, icy.
"I don't doubt you do," you try to suppress a smile, because it's genuinely funnyâin any other, non-jealous situation, Maddy would be the first to joke about her grades. "I'm saying he's nothing to me. At all. Zero."
"Then why was he sitting in my spot?"
There it is. That's where the shoe pinches. Not in Ethan as a guy, but in the symbolic "her spot." On the bench where you always sit together, where you first kissed after she walked up to you in the school courtyard six months ago, in front of everyone, and said, "Listen, I think you should be my girlfriend." To your right. That's where Maddy always sits, and Cassie usually sits to your left. But that day, Maddy wasn't there, and Ethan, unaware of your group's unspoken seating chart, plopped down in the empty spot.
"Because he doesn't know. Nobody told him, Mads. To him, it was just an empty bench."
"It's not empty," she enunciates. "It's my spot. Next to you."
Maddy Perez's jealousy isn't shouting or breaking dishes, as you might expect given her explosive temperament. It's something far more sophisticated and quiet. It's a checklist in her head that she's constantly reviewing: who looked at you, who you smiled at, who stood too close, who touched your shoulder, even by accident while passing a textbook. It's a database where every interaction gets its own category: "threat," "potential threat," "can be ignored." Ethan, apparently, jumped straight into the red zone over a single lunch.
You reach for her, but Maddy gets up from the couchâfluid, like a catâand walks into the kitchen. You hear her open the fridge, the clink of a glass water bottle.
You follow her. You lean your shoulder against the doorframe, watching her pour water into a glass. Her movements are still smooth, but there's tension in themâher back too straight, her fingers gripping the neck of the bottle too tightly.
"You know I love you," you say quietly.
Maddy takes a sip, sets the glass down on the counter. Turns around. Now she's looking right at you, and her dark eyes finally betray the emotion she was trying to hide behind indifference. It's not anger. It's fear.
"Then why didn't you tell him to move?" she asks. Her voice cracks half a pitch lower, almost a whisper, and that makes it hurt even more. "Why did you just let him sit there, like it doesn't mean anything?"
Now the puzzle pieces click into place. It's not just about the spot. It's about the fact that Maddy sawâor thought she sawâyou having a perfectly good time without her. You were laughing, talking, your world didn't collapse during the forty five minutes she was running drills in the gym. And thatâthat is the most terrifying thing for a girl who is used to being the center of someone's universe. First at the center of Nate Jacobs' universe, which turned into a catastrophe, and now at the center of yours.
Maddy isn't just jealous of another person. She's jealous of the possibility of you existing without her. Of the thought that you are whole and separate, and she isn't the only axis you revolve around. But you understand something else too: it took her incredible courage, after everything that happened to her, to trust someone again. And now she is desperately terrified of losing it. Losing you. So every little thing swells in her mind to the scale of a tragedy.
"Come here," you open your arms.
She hesitates for exactly one second. Maddy Perez isn't someone who easily lets herself be comforted. She's used to being strong, prickly (:p), the one who hurts first so she doesn't get hurt. But with you, she's trying to be different. And you appreciate that.
She steps toward you, presses her forehead into your shoulder, and you catch the scent of something sweet from her bodyâperfume with notes of vanilla and sandalwood, the one she always wears before bed, even if bedtime is hours away. You wrap your arms around her, running your palms down her back, feeling the tension slowly release.
"I don't see anyone but you," you whisper into the crown of her head. "Seriously. You can ask Lexi, Cassie, anyone. I look at Ethan the same way I look at a lab microscope. Functionally. With no emotion."
She snorts, and that's already a victory.
"He's an idiot anyway," Maddy adds, not lifting her head. Her voice is muffled but without the ice. "He has a stupid haircut."
"Really stupid," you agree, even though objectively the haircut is just a haircut, totally ordinary, but now is not the time for objectivity.
"And he laughs too loud. It's annoying."
"So loud," you chime in, stroking her hair.
Maddy finally pulls back and looks at you. Her makeup is still flawless, not a single eyelash has smudged, but in the corners of her eyes you see a wet gleam she will never, ever admit to. She snifflesâelegantly, almost imperceptiblyâand then suddenly smiles. A real smile, the very one that made you fall for her in the first place.
"Tomorrow I'm coming to lunch myself," she announces in a tone that brooks no argument. "And if that moron sits in my spot again, I'll give him such a photosynthesis lesson, he'll run all the way across the school."
"I'll warn him," you laugh. "Like, my girlfriend is the cheerleading captain, she can do a backflip with one hand and knock your tooth out, so you'd better relocate to another planet."
Maddy rolls her eyes, but the sparkle is dancing in them again. The crisis has passed.
Later, when you're lying in bed and it's already dark outside, she laces her fingers with yours and spends a long time examining your hands togetherâhers, adorned with a couple of silver rings, and yours.
"I'm sorry," she says, barely audible. "I know I act like a psycho sometimes. It's just⊠I don't know how to be any other way yet. But I'm learning."
You turn your head toward her. Maddy's profile in the half-dark looks drawnâthe sharp arch of her brows, lashes, lips. You kiss her shoulder.
"We're learning together, remember? Meânot to be jealous of every lamppost, youâto tell apart those⊠chloroplasts and mitochondria."
"To tell chloroplasts apart from mitochondria," Maddy corrects, and you hear a smile in her voice. "I actually know biology better than you."
"Oh, so you're not just the most beautiful, but also the smartest?" you tease.
"Exactly," she answers with absolute seriousness. "And tomorrow I'll prove it to the entire school courtyard. And Ethan can sit on the other side of town."
You laugh, and she laughs too, and this is the best proof that the evening, which started with passive-aggressive scrolling, ended the right way. Maddy will be jealous againâit's part of her nature, the same as her love for sparkly earrings or the habit of painting her nails exclusively red. But she's not afraid because she doesn't trust you. She's afraid because she's been burned before. And you're ready to prove your love to her as many times as it takes.
having a meet cute with maddy was the highlight of your shift!
there we times when maddy really hated her job. like now, when sheâs playing glorified babysitter for a grown man.
his head fell against the head rest of the car seat, glasses pushed all the way to the top of the bridge of his nose, a groan tumbling out of his lips "i have the worst headache ever... your perfume is too strong can you open the window? ugh i cannot deal with the bright lightâ"
âi told you to keep your drinking to a minimum,â she sighed, her fingers tapping away at her phone âwhat did you expect to happen?â
âi need a drink.â he declared and maddy rolled her eyes at him.
âjust wait till we arrive, you can get a drink there.â
âfuck no, i want something right now or iâm not going.â
her tapping halted and she narrowed her gaze at the petulant manchild. she weighed her chances of ignoring him but with the way he was acting guaranteed an oncoming headache of her own.
âfine.â she conceded with pursed lips, she tapped the drivers shoulder to inform him they should stop by the nearest cafe or diner âwhat do you want?â she turned to dylan, an unamused expression planted on her face.
âi donât know a fucking iced vanilla latte?â
âsugar? thatâll make you more sick.â she deadpans.
âget me water with it then.â he dropped his head back onto the headrest and shut his eyes. maddy opened the car door, muttering âasshole.â as she exited the backseat and walked into the cafe the driver dropped them off at.
she quickly sent a message informing the waiting party theyâll be a little late due to dylan âfeeling a little under the weatherâ before pressing send as she pushed open the door to the quaint establishment.
you stood up from your position where your folded arms were resting on the counter as you stared outside the window due to the slow day you were having. the arrival of a new customer caused you to straighten up, your customer service smile ready as you watched a woman walk in, her head tilted down to stare at the words on her phone.
âhi, what would you like to order?â
the woman stopped just before the counter, turning her phone off as she stared at the board hung above you. you felt your eyes widen when you caught a glimpse of her face. she was stunning. there was no other word to describe her. or maybe there were since breathtakingly beautiful were next on your mind. you subconsciously fixed your hair, your smile turning sweeter when she finally looked at you to relay her order.
she tapped her fingernails against the wooden piece, a small smile on her face as she spoke âhi, can i please have one iced vanilla latte, one iced caramel latte, and a bottle of water?â
âof course!â you nodded, tapping away at your devices screen to input the order âwould you like a regular or large?â
âlarge.â
âand for the milk choice, would you like almond, oat, semi-skimmed, or whole?â
âsemi-skimmed for both.â
âanything else youâd like to add?â
âno thank you, thatâll be all.â
âwould you like to pay with cash or card?â
âcard.â
you positioned the card reader towards her, she tapped a black card against the screen which read a total of $15. you hummed, returning to the screen as you continued to ask âsit in or takeaway?â
âtakeaway.â
you felt a hint of disappointment bloom in your chest which was weird because you just met the lady for the first time in your life. you recovered quickly to add âcan i have your name, please?â
âmaddy,â she said and quickly clarified âwith a âyâ at the end.â
âperfect,â you responded and finally looked up to give her a grin âiâll call on you when your orderâs ready, you may take a seat if youâd like.â
you catch a dent in the skin by her lips, a cute dimple peeking through which causes your heart to flutter. she thanks you and takes a seat by the window, her attention immediately captured by the notifications popping up on her phone.
you turn and grab two large plastic cups, placing them on the counter and began preparing for her drinks by pressing some ground coffee into the portafilter, you hook it onto the machine and place a glass mug beneath the head to drip the coffee. you grab the syrups to circle the rim of the cup before you navigate your way to the freezer and scoop out lots of ice to dump them into the cups. when you notice that the coffee was done, you poured an equal amount into the cups and added the milk as well as pumps of caramel and vanilla syrups.
âone iced caramel latte and one iced vanilla latte for maddy,â you called. she rose from her seat and walked over to you âhereâs your water as well.â
âthank you,â she smiled and grabbed the cup holders.
âno problem,â you tell her and you mean it. just as sheâs about to walk away, you stop her by saying âi donât know if i will see you again so i just wanted to tell you, you are so gorgeous.â
maddyâs smile turned bashful as she batted her lashes at you âthank you, youâre very pretty too, and this definitely wonât be the last time i visit.â she left with a wink and thatâs all you could think about for the rest of the shift.
synopsis: haerin doesnât like you just because and then you hit her in the head with a volleyball and now she has a valid reason to not like you but now YOU have a reason to try to warm up to her
warnings: volleyball player!reader ; haerin is just like me in this I easily hate ; brief one sided enemies to lovers but very brief ; reader lowk whipped ; haerin whipped but she hides it better... maybe ; pure fluff no angst isn't that crazy ; so cute icl ; anything else I didn't mention ; haven't written in twenty years basically this is nooot my best ; not proofread
a/n: you don't understand how much i appreciate haerin's cover of dontcha (listen while you read!! or at least near the second half lolol) bc I'm so obsessed I keep looping the song that song is my everything... also, tried a diff pacing/writing style so lmk what u guys think :-P
haerin never really liked you.Â
sheâs never actually met you, but in her defense, once she has a reason not to like someone (or that tiny feeling in her gut that draws her away), the feeling grows and growsâquietly, steadilyâuntil it fills every space it can. and you? youâve given her plenty to work with.
considering your athletic reputation as the universityâs star outside hitter, you're relatively well-known around campus. thatâs her first strikeânot that itâs a bad thing, just enough for haerin to put you in a different world in her mind. two sides of a coin. peas of different podsâand so forth. youâre louder, more outgoing, bright in a way that feels abrasive to her more reserved nature.
your friends donât help your case either. they snicker during lectures while haerin is trying to take notes, organize her planner, or simply pay attention. even in the halls of the building or on the respective way to your classesâyou somehow manage to pass by her at least twice a dayâ-your friends are making you push them away because they made you laugh too hard and suddenly the quiet of the arts building is filled with your voice.
so, she didnât really acknowledge you at first despite the connections you shared with two of her friends eunchae and minji. but when you decided to switch majors before your second semester and started spending more time in her building, ruining the comfortable routine and atmosphere, that was the beginning of her personal second semester curse.
(haerinâs heard of the infamous second semester curse; she figured itâd just be due to a heavier academic load and whatnot, not for it to manifest in the form of you.)
and if she was being honest, youâd never actually done anything to her. haerin was just being a little more judgmental than she liked to admitâor as her best friend danielle would say, âyouâre just being the usual haerinââand you, all bright and loud, were simply everything she wasnât very fond of. it was easier to dislike you that way.
but today, she finally had a tangible reason to back up her detestation.
âholy shitââ haerin hears you curse, your voice panicked as sneakers squawk against the gym floor.
the world spins a little as haerin presses her palm against her head, wincing.Â
youâre already sprinting over, wide-eyed and breathless, guilt written all over your face as you slow down to a stop.
âiâm so sorry,â you blurt, unsure of what to do now that youâre right in front of her. âi swear i wasnât aiming for youâare you okay? can you stand? should i get someone? oh my god iâm so sorry!â
your voice fully registers in her mind and through the haze of pain, haerin blinks up at you.
of course it had to be you.
of course you had to hit her.
of course you had to look at her like thatâso worried, so intense.
and for some reason, that annoys her even more.
âiâm fine.â haerin says through gritted teeth, holding the side of her face that was pummeled by a volleyball. now it makes sense why youâre the star outside hitter, because it hurt. it wasnât even your worst spike.Â
she grumbles, âcould you watch where youâre hitting next time?â
âiâm so sorry, really.â you hesitate, hand still hovering awkwardly in the air before it reaches over to haerinâs so you can check the side of her face, but she steps back.
âseriously,â she says, sharper this time. âiâm fine.â
you flinch a little at her tone, guilt flashing across your features before you try to cover it up with a sheepish smile.Â
âright, um, sorry.â you say, backing off and biting the inside of your lip. âbut seriously, iâm so sorry. you can, um, like, hit me back if you want? you can throw the volleyball at my face in returnâah, um, revenge. eye for an eye? or i can treat you to something⊠if youâŠâ
your voice dies down at the sight of her glare, and because sheâs taken her hand off her face and wow the color is nastyâa dark red that might just fade into a near purple in the next hour.
she looks at you, unimpressed, and flatly says, âiâm not five.â
you laugh under your breath, scratching the back of your neck. âfair. but if you change your mind, i wonât argue back or anything,â you offer, pointing to your cheek dramatically. âfree shot. no consequences.â
for a second, haerin truly wants to slap you in the face. she wants to roll her eyes and walk away. wants to keep being annoyed, to keep clinging to that righteous, simmering dislike sheâs built up for no reason.
but you stand there so weirdly genuine and stupidly endearing in your own loud, clumsy way that makes it harder for her to hate on you the way she wants to.Â
she huffsâloud enough for you to hear and swallow lightly from her terrifying energyâthen gives you a small groan before turning and walking away without another word.
behind her, you raise your voice just a bit as you call out, cheerful despite the tension, âiâll take that as a maybe!â
haerin doesnât turn around. she just keeps walking, cheeks nearly as warm as the side of her head.
â
the next day haerin has to add a good two layers of color corrector, concealer, and foundation in order to cover up the giant bruise on the side of her face.Â
after the incident yesterday, the nurse gave her an ice pack and a âtake care!â to compensate for your damage because âregularâ university students do not get the same attention as an athlete with a torn acl, unfortunately.
she sits down at her usual spot for her music history class, pulling out her laptop and current reading for the course as she waits for hanni. but before hanni can steal a seat next to her, someone else does.
âhi, i donât know if you remember me. i mean, you probably doâŠâ haerin glances to her right, jaw tensing at the sight of you and hearing your voice. âi, um, got you thisâŠâ
you hand her a small box of strawberry chocolate bites, offering her a small smile to break the tension.Â
but haerin doesnât give in.
âwhy?â she asks.
âwhat?â
âi donât need your chocolate,â haerin responds flatly. âyou can go back to your friends now.â she adds, redirecting her attention back on the book in front of her.Â
âno, no. please, iâi insist. iâve been on that end, worse than what you had to endure though, and itâs really bad, justââ
âjust because iâm not you doesnât mean i canât handle a ball hitting my face. iâm good, are we done?â
haerin notices the look of shock that makes your features twitch slightly. you avoid eye contact then, pursing a smile before pushing the chocolate toward her.Â
âlook. iâm not the type of person to let these things slide. it might seem small to me, but i want to make it up to you. take these chocolates for now,â you sigh, standing up. haerin looks up at you curiously, her expression never shifting as you finally say, âbye.â
â
there was a noticeable routine throughout the next two weeks that you couldnât seem to break.
youâd cross paths with haerin often, because apparently fate had a terrible sense of humor, and you made sure to acknowledge her each time. it started off smallâ a smile, nod, or a soft âheyâ in her direction. none of it was overbearing, just⊠persistent. itâs how you are.
even when haerin pretended to notice (she sure noticed each and every time), you never faltered. if her gaze so much as brushed yours, youâd light up immediately, offering a little wave that would never fail to be left hanging.Â
in class, it was the same. she always sat in the same spot â the third row from the front, fourth seat in â and you always scanned the room for her as soon as you walked in. when you found her (which you always did), youâd stroll past, knock gently on the edge of her desk with your knuckles, and smile before heading to your own seat across the room.
haerin didnât understand any of it.
why were you being so nice to her? what were your intentions?
it was all so⊠strange.
hitting her in the head shouldnât have led to⊠whatever this was. sheâd expected you to move on and forget it. you have much bigger things to worry about anyway, as the outside hitter. instead, it felt like you were making a point to force your way into her peripheral vision every single day.
sheâd been skeptical, very skeptical. sheâd spend a few minutes zoned out, trying to think about what you were up to, and why it seemed so welcoming. but no, haerin canât give in. thatâs not like her, not for someone like you.
it wasnât until her confusion simmered down that she found herself out one afternoon with her group of friends huddled around a crowded table at a campus cafe, sipping on iced teas.
âremember when you told us about the volleyball-to-your-head incident?â minji asks, switching the conversation topic from the most annoying professor to you.
haerin raises a brow. âyeah, why?â
ây/nâs been spiraling because of it.â minji says casually, twirling her straw. âbecause of you.â
haerin blinks, caught mid-sip. â...what?â
âyeah.â minji grins. âshe thinks you hate her. she feels awful about it.â
hanni nods, a bite of a sandwich halfway to her mouth. âi feel bad for the girl,â she adds around a mouthful, earning a look from danielle. âsorry dani. but yeah, minji was telling me about it kinda. damn.â
âso youâre just going to tell hanni about a story that involves⊠me? without telling me first?â haerin rolls her eyes playfully.
âokay well to be fair sheâs my roommate so how about that.â minji argues. âanyway, ever since the volleyball thing,â she continues, leaning forward like sheâs about to drop the craziest news ever (knowing minji, itâs probably not that crazy), âsheâs been convinced she made an enemy out of you. like, actually upset about it. she keeps asking me if she should apologize again, if sheâs being annoying, if she should just stop tryingâŠâ
haerin stares at her, stunned into silence.
you? of all people? spiraling because of⊠her?
âmaybe sheâs just not used to people like you, ârinnie. i donât know her like that but i heard sheâs very lively and outgoing and basically your complete opposite.â danielle giggles softly. âand i thought i was bad.â
âplus, she thinks youâre like a ghost or something. she sees you everywhere, apparently,â minji adds with a laugh. âsheâs kinda going insane.â
for a long moment, haerin just sits there, her fingers gliding along the condensation on her cup. the irritation that she pairs up with you in her head fizzles away just a little.
she hadnât realized it got to you that much. she never realized how much you truly cared about how she was affected by your killer spike.
maybe, haerin thinks, maybe sheâd been a little too quick to judge.Â
maybe youâre not just loud and obnoxious. maybe youâre just trying to mend things.
âi guess iâll be a little nicer. you canât blame me though, that bruise was purple. iâm just glad it wasnât that close to my eye.â
âiâve had worse.â minji snickers, earning a glare from her.
â
today, you have your music history class. 1pm on tuesdays and thursdays, seventy-five minutes long, and one of two classes you have with kang haerin.
you also share the class with two of your teammates: kazuha, the most reliant, talented setter you know, and yunjin, whose killer vertical and presence at the net make her the best middle blocker in the region.Â
while the two are a dream combination on the court, theyâre a nightmare in any academic setting.
out of the three of you, you tend to be a little more reserved, which says a lot. your composure breaks without fail because theyâre so loud and unfortunately so hilarious that it makes you cackle and completely lose any self-awareness in class, or anywhere in general.
yunjinâs nudging you as you three walk up the stairs, teasing you as soon as you reach the second level of the building.
âare you ready to be ignored by kang again?â she snickers, grinning from ear to ear. âi think she hates you even more after all of whatever youâre doing.â
âoh shut up.â you groan, shoving her with your shoulder. âlook, iâm trying to be nice. do you know how fucking bad it is to get hit in the head with a volleyball? dude, that wasnât even my best. it was practice. i feel so bad⊠one time i got hit by ryujinâs spike andââ
you shiver, remembering how puffy and purple your face had been after the game against your rivals. you looked like youâd gone ten rounds in a boxing ring.
and you canât stop thinking about haerin after, pinching the bridge of her nose at the thought of her. the faint swelling after the incident, the way her concealer couldnât quite cover the bruise. the fact that she hadnât said a word about it, just sat there stiff and silent the next day in class.
ââi need to make it up to her.â you mumble under your breath, almost to yourself.
âwow. iâve never seen you so sorry.â kazuha hums thoughtfully, sipping on whatever flavored latte she has in her hand. then, she nudges you, nodding her head toward the woman you injured two weeks ago. âbut seriously, itâs impressive. iâve never seen someone make being nice this tragicâ hey, nowâs your time to shine.â
you glance up.
itâs nine in the morning and you always pass haerin on your way to your first class of the day. today is no different.Â
sheâs put together, headphones in, and headed straight towards you.Â
you feel a lump in your throat. every day, every time, you say hi. and every day, every time, she ignores you.
but you canât help yourself. you swallow lightly, raising a hand and smiling at haerin. to your surpriseâshe looks up and meets your eyes, holding the contact for a second longer than usual, something almost unreadable shimmering along the surface before she shifts her gaze forward like itâs nothing, continuing down teh hall.
she acknowledged you.Â
you turn to watch her walk away, stunned. âguys, maybe she doesnât hate me.â you gasp under your breath.
âor maybe: youâre delusional.â yunjin clicks her tongue. âthere was probably something on your face.â
âwas there?â you say in a slight panic, pulling out your phone to check yourself out. thereâs nothing but your plain old face, the face that haerin looked at for four whole seconds.
you canât be delusional, thereâs no way.
when you go to your next class, your spirits are still lifted. you step into music history half an hour later. kazuha and yunjin are already in their seats since you left them to go grab something from your car, and by the time you glance over theyâre laughing at something on yunjinâs phone. you linger longer by the door, adjusting your hoodie.
out of habit, your eyes find haerinâthird row from the front, fourth seat inâposture perfect with her laptop in front of her, earbuds out now.
something is different this time when you look at her, because sheâs already looking at you.
you feel your breath catching. a flash of nervousness rushes through your body and you have no clue why. she blinks once, twice, then quickly turns her focus back to the screen, fingers typing calmly like nothing had happened.
stillâyou catch yourself smiling, chest a little lighter than it had been all week.
something is different. you can feel it.
and for the first time you can relax your shoulders, because it feels like youâre not just fighting this silent losing battle anymore.
â
you see her again thursday morning, but yunjin and kazuha arenât there to witness your five seconds of embarassing yourself.Â
today her hair is up in a bun and sheâs wearing a plaid long-sleeve button paired with wide-leg sweatpantsâshe looks good, and now that the thought pops up⊠when hasnât she?
âhey,â you blurt out before you can even think about what to say after. âgood morning.â you add with a friendly smile.
she slows down, her brows twitching just barely as she looks at you like sheâs thinking of what to say. maybe sheâll utter nothing and walk off. maybe sheâll reprimand you. to be honest, you donât really care what happens next because itâs better than nothing.
âhi.â she says quietly, flatly. she breaks eye contact and walks right past again.
your smile widens, and each step down the hall feels brighter.
â
the week ends for most people with relief, but not for you. most fridayâs are spent at the universityâs court for practice, running a few warmup laps around the small court to get you going. Â
everything continues on normally: your team pairs up to pepper for ten minutes before moving into spiking drills, setting, receiving, and perfecting minor details before moving on to scrimmages. itâs a routine you could never get tired of, one your body knows by heart. even when youâre sore and dreading practice, you love it.
what breaks the usual routine is a certain someone showing up twenty minutes before practice ends.Â
haerin walks through the door with two of her friends. you recognize danielle and hanni since theyâre a weekly feature on your teammate minjiâs instagram stories. while everyone gets back into order, your eyes linger on haerin. what you donât expect is for her to lock eyes with you for a split second, a moment that makes you stop in place, before she breaks the contact.Â
you catch the group sitting in the bleachers, sparking a sudden urge to try a little harder.
the last twenty minutes of scrimmage consist of you doing very well. your turns are sharp and precise, your spikes heavy and quickâeven some of your teammates are shocked at the sudden boost of energy. youâre playing almost as well as you would in a real game, and maybe itâs because of a special someone in the crowd. maybe itâs to distract her from the fact that one of your spikes left her in the nurse's office.
when practice ends, you run a few laps with your team before stretching together, though not without trying to sneak a peek at haerin to find that sheâs already doing the same. you have to fight back a smile each time.
and after everyone finished changing, you caught up with minji, nudging her arm with your elbow.
âhey buddy,â you greet with a teasing tone. ânice blocks today. your vertical is getting better by the day!â
âthanks,â she laughs. âand⊠buddy? since when did start using that?â
âsince now?â
âyou sound ridiculous,â minji sighs. âso, what did you need from me?â
âi already told you! youâre doing better⊠and⊠well, i have a question.â
minji sighs once more.
âwhatâs with your little friends showing up?â
âno,â minji starts, raising her eyebrows. âwhatâs with haerin showing up.â
ânoâŠâ
â...yes,â she counters.Â
you huff, rolling your eyes as you step back onto the court. minjiâs friends are still sitting in the third row of the bleachers, laughing at something from what you can tell. and then minji looks at you from the side, raising her brows again and tilting her head, motioning for you to follow her.
you hesitate when minji starts heading over, but give in anyway.
âiâll just say hi,â you mutter, more to yourself than minji. your teammate shrugs.Â
when you arrive, theyâre already headed down the bleachersâitâs a little terrifying. haerin is second after danielle, with hanni trailing behind. you watch as danielle leaps over to hug minji, then catches you while her arms are wrapped around your teammate.
âoh hey!â danielle beams into minjiâs ear. âyou must be y/n?â
âyeah, right on!â you respond with the same energy.Â
then your eyes land on haerin, whoâs fixing the collar of her t-shirt before meeting your gaze once again. the energy in your body dims down, your jaw tenses, and you feel like a movie character when the background blurs behind and itâs just them.
âhi haerin.â you greet warmly.Â
she scans you again as if sheâs figuring out whether or not you deserve a response. you gulp shallowly.
âhi.â she responds. her friends turn their heads toward her, clearly amused. then, her lips curl up just barely, almost imperceptibly. if you werenât so hyperfocused on her you wouldnât have caught it. âiâm surprised you didnât hit anyone in the face.â
your heart beats against your chest like itâs trying to escape.Â
minji bites back a laugh as you awkwardly chuckle before saying, âwell, thatâs progress.â
haerinâs brows raise just a bit as she adds, âyour aim mustâve improved.â
minji doesnât hold back her laugh this time, slapping your shoulder. something about haerinâs light teasing warms your chest, thereâs a grin on your face as you respond, âjust for you.â and maybe it was risky, but it makes haerinâs lips turn up just a little more. it feels like a standing ovation.
âwell,â you begin, because your heart might explode right there and right now. âi was just catching up with minji. i have to uh, i have to⊠catch up with someone else. see you haerinâ and um, you two as wellâ hanni, danielle.â
they all giggle before waving to you, though haerin only offers you a small smile that makes you want to celebrate.
â
haerin lifts up her head after sensing someoneâs presence right by her side. she assumes itâs hanni, so she doesnât bother to look right away. but when she tilts her head and glances over, itâs not who she expected.
âmorning.â you greet, casual, but a faint smile is seen on your face.
youâre here early, haerin thinks. usually your friends would make it before you, loud and probably sharing their whole weekend with the class unknowingly. youâd show up just before class started and scan the room for haerin before making your way over to the back to join the disturbance. not that sheâs keeping track or anything though. thatâd be ridiculous.
she blinks once. âmorning.â
she turns to grab something from her bag, assuming youâll leave sooner. but you donât. instead, she feels your lingering presence beside her desk.
âso, how was your weekend?â you ask, equally awkward as sincere.
âfine.â she replies without looking up.Â
you nod, waiting, but nothing conversational trickles in after.
your attempt at dissolving the tension is by clearing your throat, trying not to make it weird. âthatâs good. did you do anything fun?â
she turns her head just barely, meeting you halfwayâsort of. âwhy are you bothering me?â she asks, and the bluntness makes you stiffen a little.
your lips part but nothing comes out. you hesitate before answering, âiâm waiting for my friends.â
her brow lifts slightly as if she doesnât believe you.
âyou donât believe me, do you?â you sigh. âthis isnât me doing charity work because i left a bruise on the side of your face that one time. that was an accident.âÂ
âright.â she says dryly, her lips twitching faintly.
âi swear!â you blurt out, flustered now. âi felt so badâlike, genuinely. i was gonna ask minji if i could venmo you for your medical bills or somethingââ
haerin cuts you off by letting out a quiet huff of laughter, looking at you properly for the first time. the corners of her lips lift and something in her eyes soften.
âhas anyone ever told you how dramatic you are?â she questions, amused.
you fake a pout. âwhatever.â
âyou know,â she turns back to her desk, fighting a smile, âyouâre not bothering me. i also feel bad that you look like a loser, all lonely and all. you can stay a bit until your friends come.â
âwhat did you say?â
âyou heard me.â she says with a smile.Â
and just like that, youâre pretty sure your morningâs already made.
â
youâre not really sure why you decided to put an effort into stepping over the line to make it on haerinâs good side. all the waving at her and making your presence knownâmaybe it could be labeled as botheringâhad been spontaneous.Â
there was no doubt that you were drawn to her for whatever reason. maybe it was because she caught your eye each time you would pass her near the beginning of the semester. maybe it was because you looked for the familiar face once you got the rhythm of when youâd briefly be within her presence.Â
she was also on minjiâs instagram occasionally, so you had a clue of who she was before attacking her face with a ball. and youâd stalked her instagram maybe once or twice on a random evening just because she was tagged in a story. she seemed nice and all, so why not talk to her more?
plus, she was nice to look at at. she had the kind of face that lingers in your mind after being around her, sometimes at night too, or even in random bursts throughout the day. sheâs a new smile in your life that you start getting used to.Â
haerin found you to be an addition to her routine, a very unexpected one.Â
youâd appear at the end of the hall, sometimes with your friendsâbut recently it had been just youâand wave to her. when it was just you, you never failed to ask her how she was or how her day had been so far, everything friendly. and if she were being honest; she didnât mind all this energy from you, if anything, she really liked it.Â
it took a bit of time for haerin to reciprocate, maybe because of the grudge but also because it was difficult to talk to someone who used to be a world away from her. but here she is asking you if your practice is well, when your games were, and further inquiries that introduce you more as a person. she truly liked getting to know you, even if she pretended to be reserved and hesitant at times.
â
âhey,â you greet haerin as you walk up to her.
haerin isnât sure when the bumping into you turned into willingly wanting to catch you in the morning or afternoon. this time, sheâs waiting in the lobby instead of lingering in the usual hall, and sheâs caught you by surprise with the slight change.
âhi.â she greets back.
youâre wearing a blue baseball cap with capital âaâ in white on it. your hair is pushed down by the cap just a bit, urging you to swipe it away to prevent it from blocking your view. a loose, white graphic tee also hangs over your figure nicely, complemented by a nice pair of jeans with a color that suits you well. you adjust your cap, finding the way it sits on your head a little off, and haerin wonders why she hadnât realized how cute youâve been until now.
âso, i was wondering.â
âoh no.â haerin sighs.
âhey!â you whine playfully. âwell now iâm not going to say it.â
haerin looks you square in the eye, tilting her head down and raising her brows just barely.
âokay well if you look at me like thatâŠâ you surrender, fixing your hair just a bit. âsince we have that mini exam, i was wondering if you wanted to go to the library to study⊠or, we could hit that cafe nearby.â
âthereâs a lot of those.â
âwell i know a nice one.â
âme too, y/n.â
âeverytime i feel like weâre getting better at this, you suddenly find a way to hate me again.â you joke, but haerin lingers on whatever âthisâ is. you continue, finishing your thoughts, âbut yeah, after class, are you down?â
âsure, sure.â she agrees.
and then you smile, teeth peeking out just a bit. haerin feels a weird tingle run through her body.
â
the tingles get worse the next two weeks.
she spends more time with you, getting a little more personal and she likes it a little too much. you tell her the main reason why you switched majors. you were pressured into something law related, but after taking one elective for that path, you knew it wasnât for you. and then you did that thing where you rambled on about something you liked a lot, in this case you had rambled about your love for playing the bass, which is the main reason you switched.
âyou play bass?â haerinâs eyes widen just a bit from the initial shock. you are so much and so normal at the same time. âsince when?â
âummmm when i was like ten i think. iâve always played and enjoyed it, even had a few gigs, but my parents wanted me to do law or something that would rack up money.â you shrug. âi got a nice scholarship because of volleyball and realized that i could just⊠do what i like. and what i like is thatâmore than anything, reallyâso....â
she turns to see you staring ahead. youâre both walking across campus to meet up with your friends at the food court, but haerin canât think about any of that when the afternoon sun is kissing your features perfectly. it hits her that youâre really good-looking.
sure, she knows thatâs also another key factor that plays into your reputation. people praise you for your skills, how lively you are, but also how nice on the eyes you are. haerin gets that now.
you catch her staring hard, a smile forming as you mumble, âwhat?â
haerin snaps back to reality, looking ahead again. ânothing. just thinking, sorry.â
âitâs fine.â you assure, running a hand through your hair.Â
when you arrive at the building, ready to split ways to meet your friends, you tap haerin on the shoulder as she turns to leave. she turns, tilting her head and says, âwhat?â
âyou know, if you ever want to see me play bass⊠you could just ask~â
âyouâre full of it.â
you snicker, shaking your head. âwell. if you ever stop accusing me of being narcissist, maybe iâll invite you over to a gig.â
haerin narrows her eyes. âwhatever. you should catch up with your friends. iâll see you, bye y/n.â
âyeah, yeah. see you, haerin.â you smile at her and it feels like the ground beneath is stealing the energy from her knees, nearly knocking her off balance.
â
something about haerin has you rolling around in bed.Â
before you dressed in your most comfortable pajamas, flat on your stomach with a pillow under your chin as you stare at your phone, you had spent the evening with minji and her friendsâhaerin being one of them.Â
you set your phone face down and rub your face in your hands.Â
it was a spontaneous outing, and you had nothing better to do, so why not tag along with minji? it wasnât anything crazy, just casual and friendly. all of you strolled along the boardwalk not too far from downtown and playing stupid carnival games. it was fun, especially when hanni and minji started arguing over who would win the most tickets before the sun would set.
what was the most jarring was haerin. nothing in particular, just everything about her that night.
she showed up in a baby tee, beige cargos, and that face of hers. there was something about her that night, or maybe there had always been something about her that you never fully realized until the glow of a building hit her features perfectly. you two were the first to meet upâcoincidentallyâ and without the rest of the group it felt like all the confidence had slipped away from you.
it took a second to greet her, your eyes in awe from how pretty she looked with the slight change in her makeup, or maybe the smile formed on her lips as her eyes landed on you.
you roll over to lay on your back, face still in your hands.
your cheeks feel significantly warmer as you recall haerin lingering by your side the whole night. her hand had brushed yours multiple timesâyou remembered each and every time out of fifteenâand she was just so different, charming even, with her friends around. it was a slightly different side of her, one that had your heart beating slightly faster the whole night.Â
you canât stop thinking about the moment she fixed the cap on your head, the hair on your face, and her fingers brushing against your face before telling you how stupid you looked with the loveliest grin. it made your stomach churn.Â
the thought of her couldnâtâcant leave your head, even as you take your hands off your face to pinch the bridge of your nose and shut your eyes tightly.Â
âwhat is wrong with meâŠâ you mumble, sighing.
you pick up your phone again, opening on instagram and tapping through stories until minjiâs suddenly pops up. your brows furrow slightly as you scan it, eyes lingering on the picture of hanni and haerin, but mainly haerin in that frame.Â
she looks good. you canât get over it. and her user is tagged as well, so you click on it out of curiosity and infatuation.
she has two posts, much less than most people you know. the first one has four slides and a cat emoji as the caption. the first picture is a simple selfie of her with a very neutral expression, one which you stare at for a little too long. the next one is a similar selfie, though sheâs smiling instead and you spend more time on that one. the last picture is a cute cat on the street, it makes you smile.
when you catch yourself smiling, you throw your phone across the bed, groaning into your hands.
â
haerin shows up to your next practice without warning you, but to be fair, neither of you had the chance (or guts, really) to ask for each others numbers. the only thing you had was the fact that you were now mutuals on instagram and the fear that held you back from texting her a simple âhi.â
sheâs in the bleachers reading a bookâreading while youâre practicing. it makes you laugh more than it offends you, but thereâs no reason to be offended anyway. haerin is just being haerin.
you try a little harder just in case she decides to steal a peek at you. today is mainly you serving and spiking up a ton while the rest of the team works to receive it, but when it comes to scrimmaging, you do your bestâalmost.Â
practice ends and instead of heading to the locker room with your team, you run up to haerin, whoâs head perks up when she catches the blur of your figure in her vision.
âdid you miss me so much that you couldnât help but stop by and watch?â
haerin scoffs. âdonât flatter yourself.â
âtch, whatever.â you respond.
before she spills the reason sheâs there, her gaze shifts to the sweat glistening on your neck, then down to your collarbone, your shoulders, and arms. itâs oddly alluring, but she pushes it down by gulping and meeting your eyes again, trying to ignore the stupid smirk on your lips that tugs at her heartstrings.Â
âyou put your laptop charger in the wrong bag. i figured youâd be here, soââ she pulls out your macbook charger and hands it to you. ââhere.â
âhaerin,â you mutter, grabbing the charger. then, you put your other hand out and say, âgive me your phone.â
âwhat?â
âjust do it.â you urge, and she surprisingly does.
haerin watches you type in something, then hears the phone vibrate. âmy number.â you say it like itâs obvious. âso you donât have to spend your time reading while the sound of our yelling and the volleyballs distract you.â
âit wasnât distracting.â
âthen whyâd you come?â
âto see you.â
your face heats up immediately.Â
âwhatever. are you doing anything after this?â you ask with a twinge of nervousness in your tone. your thumb presses down on the charger in your hand, an attempt to cool your nerves. âlets hangout?â
âlook whoâs the one missing me now.â
âoh whatever. do you want to, or no?â
haerin rolls her eyes. âokay, but wash up. youâre sweaty and gross,â she says, her look falling to your bicep as it flexes while you squeeze your charger.
â
âso, you and y/n?â minji asks one afternoon, lazily sitting on the couch.
haerin looks up from her laptop, raising a brow. âwhat?â
âwhatâs with you two? are you guys dating?â
âwhat?â haerin repeats, though much more baffled than before. âwhere did you even get that idea?â
dating? thatâs ridiculous. two people can spend more time together, become friends and whatnot. thatâs not dating. and plus, youâre still a world apart. if youâre not around her youâre in your bubble above her, floating around far out of her reach. you guys are nothing more than good friends. youâre nothing more than her good friend.
ây/n talks about you a lot.â minji shrugs, but the flicker of mischief in her eyes doesnât go unnoticed. âa lot.â
âbecause weâre friends.â
ây/n and yunjin are best friends, but i havenât heard much about yunjin in a while.â
haerin bites back immediately. âbecause you know her as well, you guys are teammates.â
âi know you too, haerin. itâs the same.â
minjiâs just being ridiculous. thereâs no way sheâs implying that you have a thing for her. thereâs a ton of girls lined up for you and for you to be fixated on her of all people would be ridiculous.
âthereâs a lot of people who are into her, but it seems sheâs only into you.â
âiââ haerin doesnât know what to say, she bites her lip instead.
could you really be into her? she thinks hard about it. youâre so oblivious and idiotic, it would be much more blatant if you were actually into her.
âmaybe you should pay more attention to her, because she pays a lot of attention to you, haerin.â minji says, followed by a smirk.
haerin groans quietly, sinking in her spot.
âyouâre being stupid.â
minji shakes her head. âi think youâre trying to deny what iâm trying to say because youâre also into herâwhether youâre going to accept that or not.â
â
minjiâs accusation is proven right when it hits herâor rather you, quite literallyânot too soon after the night on the couch.
haerin agrees to go to one of your games, but she doesnât admit itâs because of you. she purposely meets up with minji first, pretending she isnât eager to see your stupid face. when you run up to her in your uniform, the short sleeves hugging your arms just right, she has to fight back a huge smile.Â
you raise your brows, giving her a teasing little smirk. âlook who decided to show up.â
âyou love to flatter yourself.â
âand you.â itâs a risky comment coming from you, especially when itâs paired with a wink. your teeth catch your lower lip like you regret itâmaybe it was too risky. but haerin finds herself scoffing to distract you from the blush spreading across her face.
haerin gets some downtime to meet up with hanni, danielle, and eunchae in the stands. and then the game starts before she process whatâs going on.
your team shows up all smiley in their jerseys, the crowd cheering. haerin isnât on the loud side, so she claps for your teamâa sharp contrast to hanni and danielle who are screaming at the top of their lungs.Â
somehow, you catch her in the crowd, winking at her before slapping yunjin on the back to boost her spirits. haerin shakes her head, smiling as she does so.
the game starts off well for your team. yoonâs serves throw off the team in the beginning, giving your team a bit of a headstart before they grow accustomed to her. kazuhaâs setting, paired with how quick and determined you are on the court, score two-thirds of the points in the first set.
the second set is rougher, with the other team winning by a few points. haerin can see the frustration in your face from where sheâs at. the way you tighten your jaw after each slip up and how minji slaps your shoulder to keep you from losing your cool. sheâs never seen you so serious, not even during practice. the way you hold yourself on the court is tremendously different from how unserious and carefree in class or alone with her. itâs admirableâalso really attractive
the game goes on. you play well. really well.
the third set has you pumping your fist with each successful spike. haerinâs never been into volleyball like thatâeunchae was the one who had to explain all the rules while the game was runningâbut she can tell that youâre incredible just from the way you leap, score, and celebrate.
everyone cools off a bit before the fourth set, determining if youâll have to play another rigorous round or if youâre ready to celebrate a win against your rivals.Â
it begins well, with one great serve from lily that scores the first point. yunjinâs quick to block a spike from the other side, and then kazuhaâs dump scores another point for your own team, earning a slap on the back from you thatâs too hard for her liking. she pushes your head roughly with a smile on her face.
for a while, the game goes smoothlyâuntil it doesnât.
your rivalsâ star ace spike was faster than you could react, the ball hitting your temple unexpectedly with a force matching your own spikes. the sharp sound catches everyone off guard, and itâs followed by a few gasps, then cheers as the ball lands on the ground after your team loses their focus to look at you with concern.
it hurts, but you shake it off, signaling that youâre fine with a toothy smile and a thumbs-up.
haerinâs sitting up straigher in the stands now, worry etched into the way her eyebrows furrow. danielle glances at her, brows raised, but haerin says nothing. she doesnât blink once until the game continues on.
everyoneâs on the edge of their seats nearing the end of the gameâyour team is a point away from winning. the other team serves, your team does their best to keep them from scoring, then the ball is on the other side for them to deal with it.
and then, unbelievably, it happens againâthis time way worse.Â
their outside hitter jumps, swings, and the ball hits you directly in the face clean, and blood shoots out from your nose like something out of a cartoon. the crowd gasps, and haerin flinches as if it hit her too.
you recover quick, blinking hard, and yell at yunjin. she runs after the ball, keeps it in the air, and the game continues. your team scrambles, recovers, and you manage to run up, leap, and score a winning point that echoes in the court.
the gym erupts.
you exhale in relief, losing strength in your legs and laying on the ground with your eyes on the ceiling. blood trickles down your lip, mixing with sweat, and dripping onto the court where you lie down. itâs kind of gross, but you canât really bother to care because youâve won.Â
the athletic trainer rushes over and makes you sit on the sideline, ice pressed to your face, tissues jammed up your nose almost comically. your team scrambles around you, and you brush them off, telling them youâre fine.
as soon as youâre left alone, haerin doesnât thinkâshe just moves. she scoots past legs and bags and down the bleachers, walking fast toward where you are.
you look up when she approaches, and all she can think of is how completely stupid you look. stupid and cute.
something sharp and certain twists in her chest.
she likes you.
not in a maybe, possibly way. in a real way. in a âyou just bled all over your teamâs side of the court, itâs on your jersey, and youâre still smiling at me like thatâ kind of way.
âiâm fine,â you say, like itâs the most normal thing in the world to be grinning with blood drying under your nose.
she sits down next to you, looking at you with worry in her eyes. âyou look like an idiot.â
âan idiot who scored the winning assist~â you hum happily, then pause. âmaybe this is payback for the time i hit you.â
she narrows her eyes and shoves your shoulderânot hard, but enough to make you laugh.
âi hate you. i still have a grudge because of that but,â she smiles, then continues, âthatâs way too harsh for payback.â
you laughâsort of, through the tissueâand itâs not even that funny, but she laughs too.Â
and for a second, the sounds around you fade. the gym, the team, the chaos. it all blurs. everything clicks into place like itâs always been leading to this.
it scares you both simultaneouslyâhow real it feels, how quick it settles in your chestsâbut it also feels safe. god it feels warm. like this was supposed to happen eventually.
you like her. she likes you. it hits you both at the same timeâthe third time something has hit you today, but this one hits way harder.
â
when haerin sees you next, your face is still swollen from the game a few days prior.
youâve shown up to class without bothering to cover up the giant purple mark around your eye and another red mark on your nose bridge. but still, like always, you greet haerin with a smile before heading to your friends, who poke at your face on purpose and earn a pained groan.
âdamn, ryujin got you good⊠itâs still there!â kazuha snickers poking you again. âjesus christ, it looks like you got punched.â
you shove her off, scoffing. âiâll give you a similar mark if you keep it up.âÂ
âyou better pray that the mark fades into something better, friday weâve got that gig.â yunjin reminds you.
a lightbulb appears above your head. youâve totally forgotten about the gig you landedâwith the help of yunjinâafter your little triumph on the court from a few days ago. your rub your face in your hands a little too hard and it hurts, making kazuha chuckle.Â
yunjin arranged a little gig for you and two other students to play at a lively restaurant downtown. youâve been a few times, and each time thereâs been musicians brightening the atmosphere while bringing people together. out of all the places, this is the one youâve been wanting to play at the longest. how could you forget?
itâs been a while since youâve had a gig, if youâre not counting late-night bedroom sessions with friends, friends of friends, and friends of friends of friends in someone's dorm or rooftop. the though of performing in such a long time, after being occupied with volleyball, makes you a little nervous.
âfuck,â you mutter. âi completely brushed that off.â
âwell, you better be ready by then. weâve got to practice for that after practice practice.âÂ
you nod, sighing at the slight sting of your injury. your eyes land on haerin, whoâs writing something down on a sticky note and placing it in her notebook. she turns to say something to hanni and your eyes linger on the outline of her side profile.
a thought pops up in your head, one that makes you smile ever so slightly.
â
âso i was thinking,â you start, watching haerin turn to look at you with an âoh god,â expression plastered on her face.
âthatâs not good.â
âwould you not.â you sigh. âjust let me finish.â
you two have been studying european music history together on the second floor of your campusâ most popular cafe. chatter is spilling out from every table, some mixed with the sound of writing or a pen tapping against the table, which does a decent job of making the process of studying your least favorite era less dreadful.
haerin has on a slight blush and lip balm that tints her lips, a no-makeup kind of look that prompts you to steal glances every few minutes or so. you canât not glance at her, not when her hair is up in a high bun, some shorter hairs falling over her face shifting around just a bit everytime she laughs at your stupid jokes or looks up to think about something.Â
âokay, fine.â haerin giggles softly.
âas i was saying,â you continue, but haerin is momentarily distracted.
the oversized t-shirtâs collar is loose enough to reveal a fraction of your collarbones. it drapes over you lazily, complimenting the slight tousled look of your hair. plus, you just look cute in general that it had made it really difficult to study with full concentration. the swelling had gone down and the bruise faded ever so slightly, but thereâs a natural flush on your cheeks that lingers from the inflammation that haerin canât help but find adorable. she looks down at the table, biting down on her back teeth and pursing her lips to give you her full attention.
âi have this⊠thing on sunday. itâs nothing big, kindaâŠâ you say a little quiter than before. haerinâs distracted again, but just a little. your mannerisms are caught by her eye immediately; the way your voice simmers down to something slightly vulnerable when youâre serious, how you bite your lip in between sentences, and the way your eyes dart around are enough to tell her that itâs actually âsomething big.â
âdown at that restaurant near the waterfront, the one with the good burgers and italian foodâi have a um⊠a gig.â you explain, eyes meeting haerinâs again to search for something. âand you know, iâm gonna play bass, and yunjinâs gonna be there too with some others. weâre just gonna have fun, have a good time, a good night and stuff. i was um, i was wondering if you wanted to come.â
before haerin can respond, you clear your throat and clarify, âactually, iâm not really asking. i want you to come.âÂ
haerin is speechless for a moment, responding with only a blush dimmed by the ambience of the cafe and a smile.
âiâd like that.â
âreally?â your posture fixes just a bit from sheer shock. âgreat. you can bring a friend of course! i donât care, but iâd⊠iâd like to see you there. iâd like to spend time with you after my little thing too.â
she laughs and her head tilts a bit, eyes softening as she looks at you with those dumb, adorable blue light glasses slipping down near the tip of your nose. her hand moves over to push them back up, making you smile like a child.
haerin moves her hand back to her laptop, eyelashes fluttering as she blinks and says, âiâm looking forward to it.â
â
panic crawls up haerinâs spine before she can stop it.
she was supposed to have everything under controlâfinish her assignment early, take her time getting ready, maybe even have some downtime before heading out. but the essay took longer than expected because she lost half of her sources somehow, and now sheâs scrambling. she types at a speed that blurs her vision and biting the inside of her lip with each typo just to submit with barely thirty minutes left to get ready to see you.Â
haerinâs usually composed, easy-going, and on top of things. but now thereâs a small pile of clothes tossed on the bed, her phone buzzing with the time, and her thoughts spinning faster than she can catch them. the bus stop is five minutes away, which means she has less time than she thought. her fingers have trouble zipping up her bag.
she ends up in something simple, making her second guess (but thereâs no time for that, really). her hair is braided in two, something simple and hopefully cute enough for you. the braids fall neatly over her shoulders, parted slightly off-center. her makeup is light to match the striped, long-sleeve top she has on, paired with comfy jeans. itâs casual, but hopefully enough to make a statement, or get you to notice her, or maybeâ
she closes her eyes, thinking of how ridiculous it is to be thinking so hard about her impression on you. she wants to look niceâwants you to think she looks nice. itâs stupid. she knows itâs stupid. and itâs conflicting in the sense that sheâs standing in the mirror trying to impress someone who might not think twice about what sheâs wearing. but she canât help it.
now sheâs tying her sneakers and thinking about how youâll see her when she walks in. if youâll glance at her for a beat longer than usual. if youâll say anything. and that thought alone makes her blush so hard she has to put a hand over her face, thinking, whatâs gotten into me?
â
haerin gets there a little lateâheart banging against her chest from the walk and nervesâbut itâs fine. the outdoor area is dim from the setting sun, the lights are warm and hazy, and youâre just about to start. the crowd isnât crazy huge, but only two tables arenât filled with a group of friends or couple. she spots a table for two, walking over and passing people talking over drinks, leaning into each other, swaying slightly even before the music begins.
youâre on stage, tuning your bass, laughing at something yunjin says into the mic. haerin spots you immediately, and before she can duck or think twice, your eyes catch hers through the crowd.
the moment is like a movie. everything slows down and itâs just you. your face lighting upâsmall, just a grinâbut she feels it right in her chest. you look thrilled. like her showing up meant the world. like sheâs not just another person in that room looking for a nice friday night. like sheâs there for you and you only and the thought of it makes you soar.
she finds a spot somewhere off to the side, still in your line of sight. the music starts. something low and smooth and groovyâyour fingers working the bass like itâs second nature. haerinâs never really paid attention to bassists before. but with you, itâs impossible not to.Â
sheâs suddenly too aware of every single thing you do. everytime your fingers shift to another note, the way your eyes flicker over her a little too oftenânone of it goes unnoticed.
yunjin stands beside you, her energy laidback, teasing. she waits for you to finish the opening chords, then strums into the rhythm, syncing naturally with the beat. you move with the rhythm, eyes mostly on your bandmates but still drifting back to haerin again and again like you canât help it.Â
the chorus creeps in, you step up next to yunjin, nodding at her like thereâs a silent understanding of whatâs up next. the crowd sways with you two, reeled in by your energy and playfulness. you alternate the lyrics with yunjin; she sings the first part of the chorus, and you sing the second part.Â
âcause basically iââ yunjin starts, before passing it to you, âi just wanna ride with youâ
your voice slides into the space, low and clear, easy but intimate.
âi gotta getchaââcause i just wanna vibe with youâ
yunjin keeps it light, laughing a little as you bump her shoulder during her next line, but when you return to your part, your gaze locks in on haerin.Â
ââcause i just gotta know if you want me too,â you sing. your voice is like silk, the tone is almost inviting, âdontcha want me?â
the lyrics feel differentâlike they mean something deeper and youâre not just singing it to entertain the crowd, like you really mean what youâre singing and itâs not just the song.
haerinâs heart races in her chest. she feels it even in her neck, in her fingertips, and the thrill of it makes it impossible to look away. the way your voice fills the room, rich and warm, and sheâs hanging on every word. you sing with such ease, so naturally, as though this is exactly where youâre supposed to be. and with every chorus that yunjin flows into, you complement her voice without failing to make eye contact with haerin as you dance around with yunjin.Â
dontcha,Â
dontcha,Â
dontcha,Â
dontcha want me?
the outro loops, and sheâs completely under whatever your voice has cast. her head bobs along, a faint smile on her lips, not even trying to hide how enamored she is.Â
as the song ends, you pause for a moment, fingers still resting on the bass strings, and meet her gaze. you have the same look from before. a quiet understanding. your smile isnât wide now, but itâs full of something softer, steadier. like youâre both aware of the new realization that hangs in the air.Â
haerin rises with the rest of the crowd, clapping, her expression a little different nowâslightly flushed, eyes bright. she makes her way to you once the applause dies down and people begin settling back into their seats after everyone on stage says their final words of appreciation and gratitude.Â
itâs just you and her again.Â
youâre both quiet. not because you want to be, but because haerin opens her mouth to say something but nothing comes out. and on your end, it feels like your brain short-circuits the second you see her up close.Â
sheâs standing there with her hands fidgeting around with the end of her top, her cheeks are pink from the slight chill of the evening or maybe from the songâmaybe both. her hair catches the light in soft waves, and her eyes, even as she glances down, make you want to collapse then and there. she looks up again with those gorgeous brown eyes you could probably stare at for the entirety of a lecture and longer and your brain is fuzzy and twisted and tangled.Â
the golden light from the streetlamp pools down against a window and it somehow reflects perfectly to make her face glow more than before. everything about her feels surreal, a little too good to be true.
and before you can even process anything other than the slight tilt of her head, you say it.
âwow.âÂ
your voice is quiet, breathy, like youâve just found a new wonder of the world.Â
she glances up at you, lips parted like she was about to speak, but your next words beat her to it.
âyou look beautiful.â and itâs not smooth, or practiced. it falls out of your mouth clumsy and too honest. but the second it slips out, you mean it more than anything youâve ever said.
her eyes go wide for a second, and then she laughsâsoft and flustered and caught off guard. her eyes dart away like theyâre too shy to hold yours anymore. she shifts on her feet, head ducking slightly, biting the inside of her lip just barely.Â
âyouâre just saying that,â she murmurs, her voice quiet but warm, still not quite looking at you.Â
âno,â you say, immediate, because itâs true and you need her to know it. âi mean it.â
she laughs againâmaybe to calm her stuttering heart, or because she is way to flustered to act normal at allâand smiles into the sidewalk like itâs the only way she can keep from blowing up then and there.
(something like that)
you watch her closely, your heart racing, but not from nerves anymore. from something else. something lighter. better.Â
âi um, iââ you pinch the bridge of your nose, cringing at your stutter. haerin laughs, and you do too before continuing. âthank you for coming. i was really looking forward to see you.â
âyou were?â
âof course i was, idiot.â you grin. âhave you eaten yet?â
haerin thinks to herself briefly. she had crammed before meeting with you, and if she tried to take even a bite out of anything she probably wouldnât have been able to swallow it just from the overwhelming rush of nervousness that washed over her just from thinking about you and seeing you.
âno. i didnât get the chance.â
âlet me treat you then! the burgers here are great. lets grab two and share the fries,â you suggest, putting your hand on your stomach. âand iâm really hungry after all of that.â
haerin rolls her eyes, then chuckles. âof course you are. letâs go eat, y/n.â
â
after dinner, and saying all your goodbyes to everyone who showed up, you end up walking along the waterfront right outside the restaurant.
(yunjin makes sure to wiggle her brows at you two, and tease you until youâre blushing even harder than before.)
the night is quiet except for the sound of water lapping gently against the edge of the dock and the occasional breeze. the street lamps light up your path, and your steps slow naturally, like neither of you are in a rush to go home.
you nudge her arm gently as you walk. âyou know, i always wanted to get to know you better.â
she glances over, rasing an eyebrow. âsince when?â
âsince that day i hit you in the head.â you laugh a little, eyes on the water now.
she groans. âseriously?â and you grin.
âi felt so badâyou were so pissed,â you say fondly. âi did everything i could to warm up to you because i was so, so sorry. every time we passed each other, youâd act like i didnât exist or give me that look⊠my friends poked at me for it but i was kind of fascinated.â
haerinâs already laughing now, shaking her head. âyouâre so weird.â
âprobably.â you admit with a chuckle. âbut i liked finally getting through your skin, getting to know you⊠you justâ you stood out. i donât think iâve ever met anyone like you. and i didnât stick around because i felt bad for giving you a giant bruise. i just thought you were interesting, and smart, and pretty. and when you say you hate me and call me an idiot it only makes me want to stick around and bother you more.â
your voice dies down a bit. haerin notices the shift in your demeanorâsomething shy, nervous, and adorable.
âi thought you were so odd for wanting to stick around,â she finally says, glancing at you with that same familiar side-eye, but softer this time. âand i didnât like you before because we were in two different worlds and⊠your friends were so loud.â she jokes.
you pretend to clutch your chest, gasping. âwow, iâm hurt. you hated me without knowing me?â
âi didnât hate you!â she defends, pushing you softly.
she laughs again and you both stop walking, pausing near the edge of the water. sheâs still smiling when she looks at you, but her voice is smaller when she speaks again.
âiâve really grown to admire you,â she says quietly. âand iâm glad weâre here, and you invited me to your little gig and i finally got to see you play bass and youâŠâ
âiâm glad weâre friendsâkind of,â you say softly, quietly. she looks up at you with a confused expression, to which you respond by looking away, smiling at the water in front of you. âiâm saying âkind of becauseâ⊠iâve kinda had a thing for you for a while and iâm really glad you came and i wanted to ask you out tonight but god it feels like my heart is beating out of my chest andââ
you inhale, then look her in the eyes before exhaling your confession, âhaerin. i really, really like you.â
she doesnât say anything at first. just looks at you, her eyes darting across your face like sheâs searching for something in the sparkle on the surface of your eyes.Â
then, slowly, she leans in and kisses your cheek. itâs quick, barely there, but you heat up almost immediately. your chest warms, and then your face, and then your whole body.
you blink. your cheeks are flushed like crazyâthey have to beâand haerin pulls back, clearly flustered now too. she bites back a smile.
âi really like you too,â she mumbles, looking anywhere but at you. âyouâre so cute. i hate it.â
you grin. âsorry.âÂ
âdonât be. i like it.â she responds, earning a playful scoff from you.
you canât stop smiling for the rest of the night. neither can she.
â
your first official date with haerin is downtown, but itâs nothing too far from a usual hangout other than the fact that both of you are crazy aware of the mutual feelings, mutual everything. haerin smiles at you the whole time and you want to capture the moment and hang it on your wall.
the second official date is nothing crazy, but itâs really domestic for a second date.Â
you invite her over to your place since yunjinâs out for the weekend helping her mom with something you completely forgot about. haerin shows up in a simple sweater and shorts and the sight of her alone earns a bunch of kisses pressed all over her face. she pretends to be annoyed, pushing you off and groaning playfully, but when youâre settled, she presses a soft kiss on your cheek and calls you cute. you nearly combust.
for a second date, itâs awfully intimate. intimate in the way that you were supposed to be watching a movie together, but a gust of drowsiness decided to sweep by. it hits you first, starting off with a small yawn that leaves your lips, and then your head falls to haerinâs chest, the thump of her heart lulling you to sleep. sheâs flustered beyond measure at how calm and settled you look, snapping a picture before shutting your laptop and pulling your blanket over both of you. she moves just a bit so you can both lie comfortably instead of at a questionable angle, and the last of your energy takes over then, your arm wrapping around her.
the second date ends with you waking up to a dead-asleep haerin sprawled out on top of you. the soft breaths from her lips urge you to reach out your hand, even while half asleep, and brush the hair out her face, smiling before you succumb to sleepiness again.
â
an incident familiar to your first mishap with haerin occurs before you even get to your third date.Â
itâs just like beforeâsame gym, same rush of adrenaline as you play through another long rally during practice. the ball sails high over the net, your timing feels perfect, and without thinking, you leap up and spike it hard.
the ballâs trajectory decides to swerve and smack right into someoneâs head.
you freeze.
it takes less than a second to realize itâs haerin.
âoh my godââ youâre already sprinting across the court before she can even recover from the hit, cradling her head with one hand while waving off the coach with the other. âare you okay? are youâcan you see me well? how is your vision? do you feel dizzy?â
âiâm fine,â she says, blinking a few times. âit just scared meââ
âi just hit your head with a nasty spike, do not lie to me. iâm not taking any chances. come on.â you gently take her wrist, ignoring the fact that practice hasnât ended yet as you pull her toward the exit.Â
she doesnât resist. she just walks beside you with that unreadable expression she always has on her faceâthough itâs slightly more readable when sheâs around you and you take much pride in thatâthough you donât catch the way she keeps stealing glances at you.
you head over toward the nurseâs offices, nearly barging into the hallway, but once youâre alone and the noise of the gym fades behind you, you stop and turn to her.Â
âlet me see,â you mutter.
she opens her mouth to assure you that sheâs perfectly fine even though a stinging sensation lingers, but youâre already cupping her face in both hands.
your thumbs press softly against her cheeks, fingers curled just under her jaw, tilting her head from one side to the other. âyouâre not dizzy? does your head hurt? is your visionââ
âiâm fine,â she repeats, but her voice is quieter now, and her eyes keep flicking between yours and your lips.
the proximity decreases the more you frown. concern is etched on your features as you inspect her like sheâs made of glass. âi swear, i didnât mean toâthe ball just, i thought yunjin wouldâve got it butâugh, you couldâve been really hurt if it were a direct spike. your cheek is already deepening in color, your faceââ
and thatâs when she kisses you.
a quick, soft press of her lips to yours. barely there. just enough to shut you up.
you blink.Â
she pulls back immediately and fills the silence, her voice small. âyou worry too much.â
your hands are still on her face, and now they tighten slightly. and before you can overthink it, you lean in and kiss her again. this time itâs slower, softer, and certain.Â
she makes a small noise of shock against your mouth, but melts into it a second later. her whole body relaxes completely.Â
when you finally pull back youâre blushing like crazy. her eyes are widened and her smile grows the longer you look at her.
â... are you sure youâre okay?â you murmur, your thumb brushing her cheek.Â
âi am, stop worrying so much.â she scolds, then giggles softly. âyou still hit me in the head me in the head thoughâagain.â
âsorry.â you sigh. âguess weâve come full circle now.â
âi guess so, loser.â she laughs, then moves over to peck your lips again.

sleuthing eyekons have managed to dig up some of your old photos from the pre-SIS eraâ it only took two hours for #futchy/n to start trending all over tiktok and twitter.
and with the traction the rest of futcheye has been getting, management has finally let you ditch the pastel skirts and soft makeup, and embrace your grunge roots to help promote the beautiful chaos era.
so you brought back your shaggy wolfcut, the piercings all over your ears, on your eyebrow and lips, and the baggy clothes.
one last thing: the girls had no idea what was coming.
# sophiaâs solo live
sophiaâs hunched over a bowl of instant ramyeon, slurping noodles while she reads the chat and talks in between bites. sheâs mid-answering a question about her skincare routine when the bedroom door creaks open.
without looking, âis that you, mahal? youâre back early.â
user01 âmahalâ #NEEDTHATT
you walk in. lip piercing catches the low light, plaid pants hanging low on your hips, graphic tee torn just right at the collar. youâre sipping from the thick straw poked into your bubble tea, one hand carrying another sealed cupâsophiaâs favourite order.
she freezes mid-noodle pull and they hang from her lips. you glance at her, she slowly swallows.
she doesnât say anything at first, just looks you up and down as she tries to contain the growing smile on her face (and the warm blush creeping up her neck).
ây/nâŠ?â she swallows, clearing her throat in a poor attempt to regain her composure.
âgot you your favourite, surprise.â you flash her a big grin as you place her drink in front of her.
ââŠthis is the surprise?â she blinks up at you in disbelief, already pulling you down by the arms next to her on the couch. one of your arms drape behind her shoulders, sparing the chat a quick greeting before immediately turning your attention back to the filipina.
âi canât believe you didnât tell me. iâm not complaining about it, though.â
she tries to keep the conversation she was having with the chat going, but everyone can tell how distracted she is. her hands are everywhere, one running through your new haircut, then snaking over your thigh just below where the camera cuts off. it seemed as if seeing this side of you unleashed some possessive streak within her.
her unspoken message was loud and clear â you were all hers and hers only.
she hand creeps dangerously far up your inner thigh, and she canât help but make eye contact with you through the reflection of the live under the guise of looking at the live chat.
you snicker into her shoulder, trying to hide the way your cheeks warmed under her touch. only sophia could somehow turn your surprise around into making you the flustered one.
user02 damn girl no oneâs taking her from youđđđđ

# manonâs solo live
user01 have you seen y/nâs predebut pics??
manon canât help the smirk that forms on her face, the corners of her lips quirking up. her hand moves up to stifle a giggle.
ây/nâs old pictures? yeah, that was like, a different person. oh! have you guys seen that one of herâ hold on. she looked so different in this one.â
she pulls out her photos app and scrolls back, seemingly already having the photo downloaded. eventually, she flips her phone around to show a picture of you in a pair of black washed low rise jorts, a loose grey muscle tee, and layers of gold jewellery around your neck. you had short messy layers, but beyond your old style there was something else that immediately caught eyekonsâ eyes.
user02 IS THAT WHT I THINK IT IS????
user03 oh we were NOT meant to see this one
user04 y/n smokes?
between two of your fingers was indeed a cigarette, a faint puff of smoke was still leaving your mouth. as the comments flooded in, freaking out about this new side of you, manon quickly realised her mistake.
âoh, shitâ!â she whipped the phone back around, side eyeing the camera with an awkward chuckle. âokay, maybe not that one. can you guys just, like, erase that photo of y/n from your memories now?â
as if right on cue, the door behind her opens âwhat photo of me?â you pry, happening to catch the last bit of her sentence before walking in.
âbabeâ!â manon whips her head around, immediately hiding her phone against her chest in a panic, until she processes the sight in front of her.
you looked as if you were pulled straight out from that photo, outfit almost exactly the same. manon practically chokes on air, rapidly blinking as she looks between the you in the photo and the you standing right there in her room. her mouth agape, she lets out a dry scoff while you walk over.
âare you live now?â you stand behind her chair, looking at the phone and waving to the camera with a smile. âhey, guys!â
âwha⊠sorry, do i know you?â her voice came out low as her eyes were trained onto you, livestream fully forgotten while her hands came up to pull you in by the waist. your hands moved over hers to remove them and hold them instead, still conscious of the number of eyes on both of you.
you looked down and noticed the bright screen in her lap still displaying the photo manon was showing off earlier. âyou seem very familiar, actually.â you tease, nodding to the photo. âso you like it?â you gesture vaguely to your outfit, cocking an eyebrow.
she just blinks up at you, and luckily for her the camera couldn't catch how dilated her pupils were from that angle. her bottom lip is caught between her teeth, eyebrows raised in an expression that conveys all the thoughts you both know you couldnât speak out loud before a small laugh escapes her.
âmhm...â is all she finally manages out, fingers hooking into your belt hoops. âi could definitely get used to this, ma.â

# danielaâs solo live
daniela is sat on the studio floor, still in sweatpants and a fitted tank top. her curls are pulled into a messy bun, face still flushed from rehearsal.
âokay, okay, iâll answer one more question before i head off. yâall are wild todayâŠ!â
she squints at the phone screen, reading through some comments as she chuckles softly.
the studio door creaks open, and you walk in. a black tank top loose enough to show the tattoos on your ribs, layered chains, and low-slung cargos.
you give her a lazy nod. âyou still live? hi, eyekons!â
danielaâs jaw is on the floor. you notice the way her eyes flick from your lip ring, to your tattoos, back to your face. she stares in silence like sheâs studying every detail, and it was a lot to take in.
âdamn, mami.â
her voice was barely loud enough for the microphone to pick up on it, but the shape of her lips made it easy to decipher her words.
user01 IS THAT Y/N???
user02 dani calling y/n mami fork found in kitchen
user03 y/n looks sooo bf today
she half heartedly claps her hand over her mouth after she processed her words, but without enough conviction for you to think she really cares. you lean against the wall with both hands in your pockets, eyebrows raised in amusement.
âyou good, dani?â you respond, smug. it was hard to not let her reaction get to your head.
her eyes continue to shamelessly roam all over your body, eyebrows furrowing together. âwhat are you wearing?â
you shrug, slowly walk over and settle next to her. âgoing back to my roots. do you like it?â your thigh presses up against hers and you feel the way she tenses.
before daniela could even respond, you reach up and adjust her necklace slightly, fingers brushing against her collarbone as you fix it.
âwasnât sitting right,â you mumble softly. her pupils dilate and her back straightens ever so slightly. you make eye contact with her again, and she's just staring. brown eyes meet your through her thick lashes, and in that moment it was like you two were the only beings in the universe, the livestream long forgotten.
user04 get a room PLEASE
user05 i just know they get freaky as hell
user06 @/user04 NO DONâT RUIN THIS FOR US
âweâre going to have to end this live early,â she finally speaks up. âi need a cold shower.â
âneed company?â
she glares at you, her usual laugh sounds hollow as she fails to downplay the tension in the room. a beat passes, and your hand reaches over hers on the floor, brushing it gently.
âyeah, thatâs it. you guys donât need to see the rest of this, right?â danielaâs already grabbing for her phone, reaching for the âend liveâ button. the last thing eyekons see is your huge, knowing grin before it cuts to black.
# meganâs solo live
megan was mid-sentence during a story about another one of her behind-the-scenes antics (that according to her: is entirely manonâs fault) when she caught a glimpse of you entering the frame. she blinked a couple times, stuttering.
ââŠso then i was telling the staff thatâuh⊠h-hold on⊠sorry, what??â
she watches as you approach the phone, waving and greeting the viewers with a smile, far too nonchalant. she takes it all in, the hair, the rings, your oversized flannel. megan tries to keep it together but the she is visibly flushed, giggling nervously as you got closer.
âthis is⊠new.â
âmhm, the big bosses let me dress like myself again,â you explained with a smile, doing a quick fit check for the live before taking a seat next to her on the bed.
she hasnât been able to tear her eyes away from you. she looked between you and the camera, staring in a combination of shock and attraction.
âdid- did you guys know about this?â she pointedly questions the chat, seeing a flurry of equally confused viewers.
user01 WHO DAT IN THE BACKKK
user02 meganâs blushinggg LMAO
you catch a glimpse of the latest comment and grin, turning to see her for yourself. sure enough, her cheeks were dusted a shade of pink. she seems to have noticed and scrambles to change the subject.
âyeah, youâ uh⊠you look good. really different.â
a soft laugh escapes you before you casually lean back on the bed. âgood different?â she manages a simple nod before continuing to admire your new look. she tilts her head and you can practically hear the gears whirring from where youâre seated, no matter how casual sheâs trying to appear.
âsoooo, the piercings? did you have to redo them? itâs been, like, two years since youâve worn them regularly, right?â
you grinned at her, tapping the spikes on your eyebrow to give the audience a better look. ânot as bad as you think. i didn't need to redo them, just had to clean âem up a bit. thankfully they didnât fully close up.â
she nodded like she was processing the information, but it was obvious her mind was far elsewhere. âand what about theseâ?â she reached for your hands, admiring the shiny rings on them.
she tilted your hands around, thumb sneaking over your veins just slowly enough to be intentional. her eyes almost looked glossed overâdeep, deep in her imagination.
user03 my dream necklace đ
user04 #futcheye is alive and well god bless
âwaitâŠâ her eyes narrowed in on a specific chunky silver ring. it was a simple silver band with a ring of stars engraved on the exteriorâthe matching rings you two had gotten when you first met at the start of DA.
the blush on meganâs face somehow grew deeper. âi didnât know you still had that.â her voice was softer now, lacking that teasing edge from moments ago. her gaze travels back up to meet yours, lingering long enough for fans to definitely clip it by tomorrow morning.
âyeah! thisâ you, you look⊠this is just, really working for you.â her voice dips into that higher register again as she leans back slightly, unaware of how close the two of you had gotten.
the tension had broken, but it was impossible to miss the way the tips of her ears were practically burning red now.

# laraâs solo live
âyâall, i⊠can i even answer that? i feel like yâall already know my answer, though,â
laraâs laugh rings through the living room. sheâs somehow ended up on the topic of discussing her type with the eyekons.
user01 she loves her mascs wbk
user02 iâd turn gay just for lara⊠just one chance
user03 another loss for the fems :(
she stares at the chat long and hard while she contemplates, but without any supervision from her fellow members, lara was a little less⊠filtered.
she broke with a giggle. âfine. you guys got me, i like mascs, okay? yeah yeah, you all saw it coming, whatever.â
âi guess i find myself drawn to the whole dark, mysterious thing. i knowww itâs cliche as hell, but like, itâs intriguing for a reason, guys,â she defended herself.
âoh, word?â
laraâs head whips around so fast she couldâve almost actually gotten whiplash. as if she summoned you, you stood in the doorway â almost tauntingly with your transformation.
you were in an oversized sweatshirt, a pair of jorts that ended just below the knee, and a black beanie. your mouth was caught in a knowing smirk, internally laughing at the perfectly coincidental timing.
lara, on the other hand, looks like she wants to devour you. her eyes widen significantly as a low chuckle escapes her, catching her bottom lip between her teeth.
user04 HELLO??
user05 not her type literally walking in rn omfg
user06 describing her type and itâs just y/nâŠ
âwow,â is all she has to say for once. she gives you a proper once over, looking you up and down. she beckons you over and turns to the chat while you walk closer. âiâm gonna need a minute, guysâŠâ
you give a brief hello to the chat, suddenly a lot more flustered. you forget how easy it is to feel self conscious under laraâs intense gaze.
âwere you waiting at the door?â âno! i swear, it was a complete coincidence.â she looks up at you suspiciously, but her hands say otherwise.
youâre standing next to her chair now, half your body out of frame. her hands immediately grab onto your hips to pull you closer, âyou know damn well what youâre doing, coming in here looking like this.â
you just shrug, giving your best nonchalant smile. as if her warm hands werenât leaving a trail of fire in their wake.
the hand thatâs out of frame snakes under the fabric of your shirt, thumb reaching for the bare skin. it swipes over the fabric of your waistband peeking out. as soon as she feels the elastic, her eyes dart up to yours and her eyebrows raise.
you couldnât do anything but match her expression, an unspoken challenge.
âsheâs lucky iâm live right now.â
that one sentence was enough for the chat to explode to new extremes and for the warmth in your cheeks to fully consume you, spreading down to your chest.
user07 no guys they just have deep friend love
user08 WHAT DID SHE SAY?????
âyou canât just say thatâŠ!â you offer a weak rebuttal. between her words and her hungry expression, it was hard to come up with anything beyond that.
âyou gonna shut me up then, babe?â
lara grins back at you. one of your hands finds her hair and strokes her scalp, you look down at her with hooded eyes.
with a sharp yank, she pulls you down by the collar, forcing you to play along with some âemergency meetingâ they suddenly had to attend, and therefore needing to cut the live short.

olympic snowboarder reader agrees to be megan skiendielâs fake girlfriend to keep her ex away, but navigating l.a., public appearances, and âpracticeâ kisses turns pretending into something dangerously real.
word count: 2kish
masterlist
you donât expect to be fake-dating an international pop star when you fly to l.a. for a weekend.
you especially donât expect that pop star to be megan skiendiel from katseye. charming, infuriatingly confident, and currently pacing in front of you like sheâs plotting a heist in the katseye dorm.
âokay, hear me out,â she says, her voice lilting slightly when sheâs excited. âif you pretend to be my girlfriend for, like, two weeks, maybe three, jonah will finally get the message.â
you blink at her, trying to process. âyou want me to be your fake girlfriend⊠so your real ex-boyfriend stops stalking you?â
ââcrazy exâ is a little dramatic,â she says quickly, then sighs. âactually, no. itâs exactly right. heâs been showing up at the studio, the hotel, the gym.â she throws her hands up. âlike, bro, iâm trying to do squats in peace.â
you canât help a laugh, even though sheâs serious. âand you think me, some random girl from colorado, will fix this?â
her eyes narrow, studying you. ânot random. youâre an olympic snowboarder, remember? half the internet thinks youâre made of ice and caffeine. jonah will freak if he thinks iâve moved on with someone who could probably bench-press him.â
you snort. âthatâs flattering, but you realize the only thing i bench-press is my board bag.â
megan grins. âstill counts. youâve got that wholesome âmountain girlâ vibe. snow suit, freezing-to-death aesthetic. totally opposite of what jonah thinks i go for.â
you cross your arms, pretending to be offended. âso basically iâm your decoy?â
she grins wider. âmy very cute decoy.â
you ignore the heat creeping up your neck. âyou realize people are going to notice, right? your fans. the internet. and iâm not exactly ready for global chaos.â
megan shrugs, her dark ponytail bouncing. âweâll keep it low-key. a few âaccidentalâ sightings, some couple selfies. easy.â
âright,â you say dryly. âbecause fake dating never spirals out of control in every single rom-com ever made.â
âexactly,â she says with mock sincerity. âweâll be the exception.â
you stare at her for a long beat. she looks at you with those disarmingly confident eyes, the kind that make you forget sheâs a pop star and remember sheâs also the girl who once tripped over her mic cable during rehearsal and laughed harder than anyone else.
âfine,â you say finally, pointing at her. âbut i have ground rules.â
megan leans forward, smirking. âoh, i love rules. hit me.â
âone: no weird pda in public. iâm not a prop.â
she nods solemnly. ârespect.â
âtwo: you tell your team. i donât want to get ambushed by pr.â
âdeal.â
âthree,â you say, hesitating just a second too long. âno actual kissing. this is fake dating.â
her smile falters just slightly, then she recovers, teasing. âwow, youâre no fun. what if jonahâs watching? what if we need to make it look real?â
you roll your eyes. âweâll cross that bridge when weââ
âpractice,â she interrupts, eyes glinting.
âpractice?â
âyeah,â she says with exaggerated innocence. âyou know, to make it believable.â
you groan. âyouâre insufferable.â
âand yet,â she says, stepping closer, her grin softening just a little, âyouâre still here.â
the air between you tightens for a moment, enough that you can feel the energy shift before one of her bandmates yells from down the hall, âmegs! you left your phone in the fridge again!â
you both break into laughter, the tension snapping.
she grins at you over her shoulder. âwelcome to the fake-girlfriend experience, colorado.â
âcanât wait, hawaiiâ you mutter, already regretting every life choice that led you here.
but when she winks and disappears around the corner, you realize, your heart is beating way too fast for someone whoâs just pretending.
ârelax, colorado,â she says, tugging on the zipper until itâs crooked again just to mess with you. âall we have to do is grab coffee and smile once. easy pr.â
âright,â you mutter. âbecause paparazzi photos are the definition of easy.â
âyou handle olympic judges,â she says with a grin. âyouâll survive a few cameras.â
you snort. âat least judges donât hide in bushes.â
her laugh spills out, light and genuine. you shouldnât notice how it warms the cool morning air, but you do.
when the barista calls your names, megan insists on paying. âmy treat,â she says, winking at the fans already pretending not to stare. âmy girlfriend gets only the best overpriced caffeine.â
you choke on a laugh. âyouâre enjoying this way too much.â
âof course i am,â she says sweetly. âitâs the first time iâve dated someone who can land a 900.â
you give her a side-eye. âyou googled snowboard terms, didnât you?â
âmaybe,â she admits. âi also learned what a âstomp padâ is. youâre welcome.â
you shake your head, smiling despite yourself. somewhere behind the counter, a phone clicks. someoneâs taking pictures. megan notices too and instinctively threads her fingers through yours.
her hand is warm, confident. you remind yourself this is acting. a performance. still, your pulse betrays you, racing ahead of the script.
later, in her car, sheâs scrolling through social media. âlook at this,â she says, holding up her phone. â#l/niendiel is already trending.âÂ
you groan. âthat sounds like a bad christmas movie.â
âexactly! weâre iconic.â
âyou mean ridiculous.â
she nudges your arm. âsame thing.â
thereâs a beat of silence, comfortable but charged. then she says, more quietly, âyou did good out there. thanks for⊠not running away.â
you shrug. âhey, iâve competed at the olympics. public humiliation is kind of my hobby.â
she laughs, then glances at you sideways. âyou know, if weâre going to keep this up, we should maybeââ
âdonât say âpractice.ââ
she grins. ââwork on our chemistry.â
you roll your eyes, but sheâs already leaning closer, her expression teasing yet cautious. âjust so it looks natural,â she adds.
your heart thuds. you can smell her vanilla perfume and faint traces of espresso. you tell yourself itâs acting, that youâve trained for higher-pressure moments.
but when she stops an inch away and whispers, âweâll practice later,â before turning the ignition, you realize youâre in far more danger here than on any mountain.
by midweek, los angeles is buzzing, and meganâs worried. fans are starting to speculate, and jonahâs occasional sightings in the city arenât helping.
âyou know, colorado,â megan says, flopping onto her dorm bed, âpeople are starting to think weâre more than friends. and jonah⊠heâs definitely noticing.â
you groan, leaning against her desk. âsuspicious? weâve only held hands twice and gone for a coffee. thatâs it.â
âand yet,â she smirks, âwe need to make it convincing. which meansâŠâ she wiggles her eyebrows. âkissing practice.â
your eyes widen. âmegan, weâre in your dorm room. iâm an olympic snowboarder, notâŠwhatever this is!â
âitâs just a peck,â she says, grinning. âfake, believable, and absolutely necessary. for jonah.â
you hesitate, but she pats the bed beside her. âcome on, pretend girlfriend. letâs make him jealous⊠convincingly.â
you sit down awkwardly, heart racing. megan leans in. âclose your eyes. totally fake. totally platonic. no feelings involved.â
you do, and then she pecks you on the lips. quick. light. perfectly âfake.â
except your heart doesnât get the memo.
pulling back, you stare at her. âthat⊠that was a thing.â
âa thing?â she laughs, brushing a strand of hair from her face. âadorable, maybe a little dangerous for your heart.â
âdangerous?â you mutter. âitâs just acting!â
she tilts her head, smirking. âif it feels real⊠thatâs part of the plan. for jonah.â
you shake your head, breathless. âyouâre impossible.â
âand yet,â she teases, leaning closer, âyou keep coming back for more.â
and just like that, pretending starts to feel dangerously real, and itâs all for jonah.
âcolorado,â megan says as you both walk past a line of brunch-goers on a street, iced lattes in hand, âremember: casual couple energy. totally believable. weâre practically professional.â
you groan. âcasual couple energy? megan, iâm an olympic snowboarder. i deal with snow, altitude, and gnarly courses, not⊠this.â
âand yet,â she teases, bumping your shoulder lightly, âyouâre doing it anyway. see? progress.â
across the street, jonah casually leans against a food truck, sipping a smoothie. his gaze lands on you two, and he raises an eyebrow.
âperfect timing,â megan whispers, sliding her hand into yours. âfor appearances.â
you feel the familiar flutter in your chest, but you play along. megan leans in for a quick peck â light, deliberate, and perfectly convincing. jonahâs jaw tightens, and you resist the urge to grin.
âsee?â megan murmurs, brushing a hand along yours. âtotally believable. totally real to him.â
you roll your eyes but secretly admit: it feels real anyway. every laugh, every accidental brush of fingers, every teasing glance in the la sun is setting your heart on fire.
âyou know,â megan says, tossing a throw pillow at you as you flop onto her bed, âthis whole pretending-to-be-a-couple thing? itâs way more stressful than i thought.â
you laugh softly, rubbing your eyes. âstressful? thatâs one word for it. heart-racing, stomach-flipping, completely distracting⊠yeah, thatâs another.â
she smirks, rolling onto her side to face you. âyou know, colorado⊠sometimes i forget weâre pretending.â
you blink. âwhat do you mean?â
âi mean⊠i like you,â she admits quietly, voice soft but steady. ânot for appearances. not for jonah. me. i like you.â
your chest tightens. you stare at her, words caught in your throat. âi⊠i like you too,â you whisper, voice barely audible. âand i think iâve been pretending less than i thought.â
for a long moment, you just look at each other, the weight of the week, the laughter, the awkward kisses, and the late-night talks all hanging in the air.
then, slowly, almost cautiously, megan leans closer. you donât pull back. your lips meet in a tentative kiss, soft at first, testing the waters, but then deeper, more certain, more real.
itâs clumsy, a little awkward, and completely perfect. hands brush, fingers intertwine, and you realize that all the âpracticeâ was just a warm-up for this moment.
megan pulls back just slightly, forehead resting against yours, grinning. âsee? told you pretending could get messy.â
you laugh softly, heart still hammering. âmessy? thatâs one word for it. but⊠yeah. real feels a lot better than fake.â
she nods, her eyes shining. âmuch better.â
for the first time all week, you stop thinking about jonah, the cameras, or appearances. itâs just you and her, in her dorm room, and the unmistakable truth that what started as a fake relationship has become something real. something neither of you wants to end.
âand just so weâre clear,â she teases, brushing your hair back, âall future âpracticeâ sessions are completely optional.â
you shake your head, smiling. âoptional, huh? iâll hold you to that.â
she winks. âgood. because i donât want to go back to pretending. not ever.â
and in that dorm room, with los angeles sparkling outside the window, you realize the line between fake and real doesnât exist anymore. because this, you, her, the laughter, the kisses, is completely, undeniably, real.

"what're you doing, spidey?"
megan's voice broke the silence, finally stepping out of the shadows where she watched. of course, your senses tingled the second she got near, but she was nothing but an afterthought.
"working." you replied, finishing on the task at handâtrying to manually repair the technology for your suit that broke.
she only sighed in reply, stepping closer. "you only look at me when you want to chastise me." a slow smirk appeared on her face. "do i make you nervous?"
she probably didn't, and she knew that. but it was fun teasing youâseeing how flustered you could get. megan had taken a liking to you, even if she never saw your face.
you almost dropped your tool, eyes briefly widening behind the mask. "i- uh- no. obviously not." an audible gulp emitted from your throat, clearly the exact opposite of what you just said.
"i like you better like this," megan's gloved hand reached out, touching your masked cheek. "all flustered around me. it's cute."
your gaze flickered to hers behind the mask, breath hitching in your throat. god, why was she making you act like this. she was a thief you worked with onceâget yourself together.
"i have to, um, focus, cat." you managed to get out.
megan only smiled at your reaction. "really now?"
she placed her hands on her hips, peering at you with interest. "well, i should get going, shouldn't i? if you're.. busy."
something in your body made you want to yell out for her to stop, to let her stay. but you didn't, only weakly nodding with every ounce of restraint you still had left. and just like that, she was gone, without a trace, leaving your mind reeling.

â± manon bannerman : she pretends like she doesnât get excited every time you invite her to your games, but the second sheâs there, trust, her voiceâll be the loudest in the crowd. manon is electric at your games. sheâs the one standing up every time you touch the ball, clapping, and shouting encouragementâ sometimes even arguing with the ref if she thinks youâve been fouled. she has zero chill when it comes to supporting youâitâs not embarrassing though, because itâs full of this unshakable pride. and when you score, sheâs on her feet, arms in the air, yelling, âTHATâS MY GIRL!â with the brightest grin. she drags the rest of the girls into chants, getting them hyped with her. later, sheâll tease youââyou looked ridiculous, all sweaty like thatââbut the way she towels off your hair after proves sheâs just proud. she likes the little rituals after your games: walking home with your duffel bag slung over her shoulder, wearing your spare jersey, stealing sips of your sports drink, and holding your hand with that buzzing yet steady presence that tells you sheâs always rooting for you.
â± sophia laforteza : she is quite literally your number-one cheerleader. she doesnât even try to hide itâshe is loud, yelling encouragements and groaning dramatically whenever the referee makes a call against you. She makes signs with glitter pens, sometimes a little embarrassing âGO BABY GOâ, but of course, you love her for it. after the game, she rushes the court the second the final whistle blows, hugging you even if youâre sweaty. sheâs always the one snapping candid photos of you mid-game, hair flying, brow furrowed in focus, then posting them with captions like âgaling mo baby â€ïžâđ„.â sheâs endlessly supportive, but she also likes playing little one-on-one games with you after practice, laughing when you go easy on her. âdonât,â she says, trying to dribble past you with all the determination in the world. âstop going easy on me, i can take you.â
â± daniela avanzini : daniela absolutely loves the discipline she sees in you. she admires how hard you work, the early practices, and the long hoursâbecause it mirrors her own dedication to her craft. sheâs quieter in her support compared to the others, but you can always feel it. sheâll bring you snacks after practice, knowing exactly what you like when youâre exhausted. at games, she doesnât yell; she just watches intently, her eyes narrow when someone fouls you, and her fists tighten when the match gets close. but when you win? her pride is this quiet, glowing thingâyou see it in the way her smile lingers when she says, âi knew youâd do it.â with her, celebrations arenât grand, no. theyâre softer: late-night drives with music low, and your hand resting comfortably on her thigh.
â± lara raj : lara becomes your safe space before and after every game. pregame, sheâll send you little textsââbreathe, drink water, youâve got thisââand sheâs always waiting for you afterwards, ready with open arms no matter how it turned out. when youâre nervous, sheâs the one who cups your face and reminds you, âi donât care how many points you score. i care about you.â at the games, sheâs a mix of calm and intensity: quiet until something goes wrong, then suddenly on her feet, calling out, âTHAT WAS A FOUL, REF DO SOMETHINGâ yeah. sheâs protective like that. later, when youâre wound up after a tough match, she coaxes you to lie with her, playing with your hair until you fall asleep, whispering things like, âyou did so well, you always do.â the outcome doesnât matter to her, you do.
â± megan skiendiel : oh now this girl, she makes a whole event out of it. sheâll drag her members along to your games, buy popcorn for everyone, and insist on wearing your jersey over her hoodie. sheâs playful, whistling whenever you step onto the court, and yelling at the top of her lungs, âTHATâS MY GIRLFRIENDâ loud enough for everyone to hear. she loves bragging about you to strangers in the crowd, like, âyeah, sheâs mine, can you believe it?â but beneath the playful, objectively cringy exterior, sheâs genuinely proud. after games, she loves hyping you up, replaying your best moves like sheâs an analyst: âholyâ that crossover? DEADLY. i swear the other teamâs still dizzy.â she loves when you teach her some drillsâsheâs clumsy with the ball but laughs it off, enjoying how you guide her hands and correct her form. to Megan, your world is something she wants to dive into with you, no matter how sweaty or serious it gets.
â± jeong yoonchae : sheâs the type of girlfriend who sits forward in her seat the entire game, eyes locked on you with this bright, almost stars truck focus. she wonât yell every five seconds, but whenever you score or make a good play, she lights upâclapping hard, grinning wide, sometimes yelling your name just once, but with so much warmth it sticks with you. she has this way of cheering that feels both low-key yet all the more intentional, like sheâs in it with you without being over the top. around your teammates, sheâs respectful and calm, but the second you come off the court, sheâs bouncing a little on her feet, eager to hug you, her excitement written all over her face. sheâs not the type to analyze the game out loud, or to scream at the ref like, but she shows you little moments of joyâgiggling when you wave at her from the bench, leaning over to record a quick clip of your free throw, or pressing a water bottle into your hands after with a soft, âyou were so good.â with yoonchae, the support is steady and naturalâquiet when you need grounding, bright when you need energy, always tuned into you.

âââ ââ â° â â âââ
You learn the shape of your apartment by how Megan moves through it.
Two knocks, the soft kind she only does for you. A quiet âhey,â the tired kind she only lets herself have inside four walls that arenât filmed. Hoodie up, cap low, hair stuffed into the collar like a secretâthen all that armor hits your couch and melts as if gravity works different in your living room.
âHands,â you say, because ritual is the only thing that steadies a day like hers. She follows you to the sink, sleeves shoved up, fingers under warm water, breathing out in long pulls like she can wash the noise off her bones. You hand her the towel. She rubs too hard, the way she always does, like she can erase the part where people looked at her today.
âRough day?â you ask, pulling the chamomile from the cupboard she pretends not to know by heart.
âSchedule did a circle,â she says, leaning her hip into your counter, eyes finally softening under the kitchen light. âRehearsal, content, dorm check-in, back to rehearsal. Manager thinks time is a suggestion.â
âManagerâs never been on a bus with sore feet,â you say.
âExactly.â She drops her cap on the chair, hair falling around her face like a reward. âHi.â
âHi.â You chuckle before handing her a mug. She inhales steam like itâs medicine, eyes closing. Her shoulders drop a centimeter. You watch it happen the way people watch sunsets: like itâs proof life is beautiful even when itâs being mean.
She pads to the fridge, peels a Post-it off the stack she keeps in her hoodie. Doodle of a strawberry; bubble letters beneath: for when you forget to eat lunch, menace. She sticks it next to the others sheâs left across monthsâneon apologies, neon devotion. âI saw strawberries at the corner store,â she says, proud of herself. âThought of you.â
âYou saw a fruit and thought of me?â
âRotten but cute,â she grins, already crossing the tile to fold herself around your waist. âBlockedâ you say as she tucks her forehead under your chin like begging with her face is a legally recognized argument. It is. You let your hand disappear into her hair. She purrs, soft, ridiculous. âMissed you.â
âYou saw me yesterday,â you say, because youâre annoying on principle.
âI miss you between blinks,â she says, not playing around.
This is the version the world will never see: Megan Skiendiel, idol, clown, chaos goblinâquiet. Clingy in the best way. A little cat who steals your hoodie and returns it smelling like the kind of safety you donât tell anyone you believe in. She falls asleep on your thigh to dumb sitcom laugh tracks, sets three alarms and still wakes up to your hand stroking her hair. She leaves your sink clean; she stacks her cup perfectly inside yours because she read somewhere that means youâre married. She calls you after soundchecks with adrenaline in her teeth and asks what you ate, if you stretched, if your boss is still scheduling meetings like a war crime. She sends you voice notes from vans: muffled giggles, taps marking counts, a hummed melody she canât get out of her head. She says âtell me something boring,â and listens to it like itâs news.
And then she goes back outside and switches. Not cruel. Surgical. Youâve seen it: a member knocks, a fan yells, a staff lifts a camera, and the softness gets shelved. Her voice goes an inch higher. Your hand disappears from hers like it never lived there.
âFriends,â sheâll say, if someone asks. The word spills on your shoes.
You tell yourself itâs a phase. A season. She told you on your first not-date in the back booth of the ramen place where no one looks left because the muralâs on the right. âI canât do public,â she said, threading a napkin through anxious fingers. âNot now. Not when weâre blowing up and schedules and the girls and⊠the internet being the internet. But I donât want to not do this.â She said, and of course you said yes because youâre stupid. Or brave. Or both. You told yourself the sky could hold it.
Youâre holding her hand under her sleeve walking back from the corner store the night you realize youâve been lying to yourself.
Itâs late. She bought cereal and yogurt because the dorm kitchen is out again. She made you pick the cerealââI want you to be there when Iâm tiredââand you didnât know a sentence could be a home. The dorm lobby is mean-bright, the way public lighting always is. The security guard nods, half-asleep. You step into the elevator alcove with Megan, alone for one breath. She leans in, all soft and stupid, about to say the thing she only says when no one can hearâ
âMegaaaan!â
Two girls run through the doors. Katseye hoodies. Phones already up. It happens in three heartbeats: their joy; the little click of record; your hand finding hers out of reflex.
She drops it.
Not a shrug, not a gentle slide. She drops it like touch is evidence. The cereal box shifts under her arm. Her shoulders square into a strangerâs posture. Her mouth rearranges into the smile she keeps in a glass case for cameras.
âHi!â Performance-bright, beautifully kind. The voice sheâs trained to use to make strangers feel like their day matters. It cuts you anyway. âItâs lateâdid you get home safe?â
âCan weâjust a quick video?â one asks, earnest and shaking. âYou helped me through exams.â
Megan steps in front of you. Itâs instinct and protection and erasure all at once. You are a coat rack with a pulse. One girl tries to angle to get you in frame. Megan corrects, blocking again. You feel it like a hand over your mouth.
âOf course,â she says, softer now, easing into the role that pays rent. She takes the phone, flips it to selfie, squeezes them in. You exist as a smudge in the reflection of the elevator doors behind her hair.
You reach for the inside of her elbowâsmall, private, nobody would noticeâjust to say Iâm here. She flinches so fast the cereal knocks your ribs. The apology flashes across her face and is deleted for the camera.
âWhoâs that?â the girl on the left asks, not malicious. Just curious. Just young.
Megan doesnât look at you. She slides the cereal box into your hands like youâre a shelf. âOhâsheâs building staff,â she says lightly, perfectly. âHelped us carry things earlier.â
Building staff.
The elevator dings. Your body turns into wrong angles. Megan herds the girls inside with a practiced little laugh and a âbe careful, donât run,â a hand hovering above a shoulder like blessing. You donât step in. You canât. Your feet have turned to tile.
She glances back onceâeyes wide with panic, apology, begging. You think she might say your name. You think she might undo the sentence she just built.
The doors skim shut. She says âThanks,â to you, pitched low enough itâll never make the video, like youâre the desk clerk. To them she chirps âGoodnight!â bright enough to be clipped into a thousand edits. The doors slice through the lobby and shut on both versions of her. Your reflection disappears last, cut in half by metal.
The security TV hums. The vending machine mutters. Your hands shake around the stupid cereal box like it weighs a hundred pounds. You set it on the front desk and leave before the guard can ask if youâre âon shift.â
You stare until the screen dims. You put the phone in your pocket and keep walking because if you answer now youâll forgive her and you donât want to forgive her for this for free.
â
The rumor doesnât start with your face. Of course it doesnât. It starts with a blurry photo of a hoodie slipping into your building during rain, timestamped, and then of Megan in a cap twenty minutes later, same rain, same door. It starts with an elevator reflection a gossip account zooms in on, draws a red circle around, says enhance like weâre in a cop show and not a campus with a million cameras. Your DMs swell like an organ. Half hearts and âyouâre so luckyâ and âdieâ and a twelve-year-old who says she canât sleep because you stole her dream girlfriend. Your boss calls you into his office and tries to pretend he isnât scrolling on his second monitor. âMaybe a leave of absence?â he says, fake gentle. You say, âmaybe you should try minding your business,â and walk out shaking.
â
Megan shows up at your door on zero sleep, rain in her hair, cap pulled so low itâs costume. She doesnât kiss you hello like she always does. She stands just inside like a storm warning. âDonât look,â she says, which is what people say when the car crash already happened.
Itâs already on your phone. The gossip accountâs tone is the tone teenage girls use when they love you and want to eat you alive. The comments are teeth. Thereâs a thread dedicated to matching your backpack from an Insta last semester. Thereâs a video analyzing your knuckles because you took a photo of your coffee once and now your hands are public property.
âIâll talk to PR,â Megan says, the soft gone from her jaw, the idol back. âWeâll handle it.â
âYouâll handle it,â you say, because even now you canât help being honest.
Her eyes flick fast, hurt. âPlease donât do this right now.â
âWhat do you want me to do?â
âI want you to trust me.â
âI did,â you say. âI do, in here,â and you gesture to the kitchen where her cap lies next to your bowl, where her Post-its glow like tiny lighthouses. âBut out there youâll pretend you donât know me, and Iâm supposed to pretend I donât know that.â
Her phone ringsâa number youâve learned means we control your life now. She answers with her Hey-Iâm-Professional voice. Nods. âUnderstood.â Hangs up. Looks suddenly so small you want to fold her into your mouth and keep her safe. âThey want us all back at the dorm. Statement, security sweep.â
âGo,â you say, because youâre in love, which means you will always be the person who hands her a hood and tells her to run into the rain.
â
The dorm is a hive. Youâve never been in it for this, but you can picture it; youâve heard enough descriptions to build the whole thing in your head. Shoe rack in moral chaos. A whiteboard with BUY MILK!!! and underneath it 9 AM PRACTICE with a tiny heart because practice needs romance too. Daniela with cereal in a mixing bowl, spoon hanging from her mouth like a cigarette. Lara in a headscarf that says soft doesnât mean weak. Manon leaning against the door like the bouncer of feelings. Sophia at the table with a clipboard because organization is her god. Yoonchae on the floor, cross-legged, eyes sharp, the youngest and also the one you do not want to lie to.
âPhones down,â the manager says. âPR on call. No posting.â
Sophia organizes what isnât her job to organize. âWe need to lock down anything public that points to⊠anyone.â She wonât say your name out loud in this room. You love her a little for that.
âDonât dig,â Megan says quickly, too quickly. âPlease.â
âWe wonât,â Lara says, soft but steel. âWeâre not the internet.â
PR calls back. The statement is worded like a cool towel: We ask for privacy. Rumors are harmful. The members are focused on their work. Itâs not a lie. Itâs not the truth you want either.
Megan looks like a person pretending to be a statue. âI canât,â she says finally, very quiet. âNot like this. Not now.â
Yoonchae doesnât blink. âSheâll see that,â she says. Not an accusation; a prognosis.
âI know,â Megan whispers, and thatâs the worst part: that some part of her expects you to understand and somewhere, in the cruelest place in you, you do.
â
The statement goes up as a clean graphic with font PR people think looks like trustworthy. You read it in your kitchen, alone, on your phone like everyone else.Â
Megan comes over that night anyway, cap low, hoodie zipped, apology ready. She stands just inside your door like she doesnât want to track mud into your life.
âI had to,â she says. âItâs notâ I didnât want to say nothing, but saying anything⊠it wouldâve made it worse.â
âFor you,â you say.
âFor you,â she says back, immediate. âBabe, you saw what that account did with a reflection. If I say your name theyâll find your auntâs Facebook and your cousinâs prom date and your dentist.â
âAnd if you donât say my name,â you say, fighting the stupid tremor in your throat, âI disappear.â
âIâm trying to protect you,â she says, because that sentence is her religion.
âYou keep saying that,â you whisper. âAnd I keep vanishing.â
You make tea because thatâs your hyperfixation. She sits on your couch like itâs a punishment. You talk about nothing because all the somethings hurt. She leaves at sunrise because she always leaves when the world might see. You watch her from your window and realize love without witness is a ghost story.
The rumor mill doesnât slow; it enrolls. Your boss suggests a âleave,â actually means âplease take your mess out of my hallway.â Your mother calls twice with the cadence of a sermon: âare you safe / are you eating.â
Then the interview drops. Two minutes. Megan in a chair too big under all the lights, hair perfect, laugh packaged to go viral, and the host says, âDating rumorsâanything you want to clear up?â The camera stays on her face. Somewhere in your apartment, a glass cracks without breaking.
âWeâre focused on our careers,â she says. âWeâre grateful for our fans, and we want to keep the attention on the music.â Itâs perfect. Itâs correct. Itâs a knife.
You turn it off halfway and sit with the TV reflection of your face: someone who thought she could eat around the bones and avoid choking. Your phone buzzes with Meganâs text:
You place the phone face down on the table like it might bite and stare at the ceiling until your eyes burn.
That night she knocks. You open. She steps in like the room is border patrol, like there might be consequences just for breathing in here. âBefore you say anything,â she starts, which is what people say when theyâre about to make your feelings your problem.
âIâm not mad,â you lie.
âYou can be,â she says, desperate. âJust donâtâdonât hate me.â
âI donât hate you,â you say. âI hate being a rumor.â
âIf I couldââ
âYou could,â you say, gentle somehow. âYou could lose your job. You could lose safety. You could choose me and burn your world down. I wonât ask you to do that. Iâm not a dare.â
She flinches like you threw something. âThen whatâwhat do I do?â
âSay it to me,â you say, because you need something to put in your pocket for when youâre alone. âJust to me. One time. âYou are mine.ââ
She opens her mouth. The word gets to the back of her teeth and knocks. She swallows it.
âI canât,â she says, and this time she doesnât even dress it in excuses. It lands like a body.
You nod because if you donât youâll wail. âOkay.â
You sit there together anyway, because youâre insane, because love makes you stupid, because you want to memorize her hands and the freckle you always kiss even when you donât have to. She leaves when the sky is gray and gives you the kind of look people give photographs they donât know how to take. You close the door and sit on the floor and make no sound. The sound lives in your ribs like an illegal tenant.
You try space. A day. Two. As if grief is a diet you can be disciplined about. She texts every night with a photo of her handâpalm lines, new ringsâlike a lifeline. You send your palm back and write match. She sends a gray heart because red feels like a brand.
â
Lara corners her in the kitchen with a spoon and eyes like sheâs turning into someoneâs aunt. âYou look like youâre starving.â
âIâm fine,â Megan lies.
âStop fasting on purpose,â Lara says. âAnd donât you dare say itâs for the stage.â
Daniela says, âtell me who to beat up.â She means the internet. She also means anyone.
Sophia sets an alarm in Meganâs phone labeled drink water & tell the truth and Megan rolls her eyes so hard she sees regret. Manon, forehead to fridge, says, âif youâre going to bleed, bleed on purpose.â Yoonchae doesnât look up from her notes. âIf youâre going to lose her, at least lose her honestly.â
âIâm not losing her,â Megan says.
The sentence chooses a tense; reality shrugs.
â
The last try happens on a bench in a small park that pretends the city isnât a machine. You pick it because you need a place where your body can fail without walls to echo it. The sky is meanly pretty because the universe is a troll. She sits an inch from you because she knows if she touches you youâll forgive her on instinct.
âI can do better,â she says. Sheâs never sounded less sure.
âHow?â Your voice already knows.
âIâI told the girls,â she says. âNot the world. Justâanother ring of truth. Lara knows anyway. She can smell secrets. Itâs her perfume.â Thereâs a little laugh in it, like sheâs fishing for a version of you that jokes back.
âThatâs not claiming,â you say, and the way your own voice breaks makes you want to bite through your lip.
âI canât do more,â she whispers, mouth turning into a wound. âIf I do more, I break everything. The group. My career.â
âIt already broke us,â you say, and youâre surprised at how simple it is to say it. Like the sentence was waiting behind your tongue this whole time.
She stares at the playground. A kid squeals. Somewhere a dog barks at a leaf. âDo you stillââ she starts.
âYes,â you say. âI wish I didnât. I wish I could be a hater, exclusively. I love you, and I am getting worse at surviving it.â
She closes her eyes. âTell me to choose you. Tell me to throw it all in the fire and dance.â
âI wonât make you ruin your life,â you say. âI wonât win you with a dare.â
âSo we end because Iâm trying to be good,â she says, wonder and horror in the same breath.
âWe end because you canât be good to me out loud,â you say. âAnd I canât be your ghost anymore.â
She nods once. Itâs small. Itâs the bravest thing youâve ever seen her do: agree with the thing that will wreck her because itâs true. She stares straight ahead and cries like her eyes are freezing overâno noise, just water. You put your hands under your thighs so you donât hold her out of reflex and undo the work you just did. She says, âIâm sorry,â and you say nothing because youâve forgiven her a hundred times already and that did not save you.
You stand up first because someone has to. Your legs feel like they belong to someone who survived a different story. She doesnât reach for you. You donât reach for her. You do not do the last hug, the mercy kiss, the cinematic ache. You leave her on the bench, crying and trying to be quiet about it. You do not look back. You promised yourself you wouldnât.
â
The world keeps its bargain with cruelty and goes on. The debut happens. The stages get bigger. The girls become the thing. You mute the tags because you are not made of marble. Your friends drag you to a diner for the livestream because they refuse to let you turn into lichen. Megan smiles into a camera somewhere and you clap for six girls and cry into a napkin in a booth with cracked vinyl.
After the stream, your phone lights with Meganâs name for the first time in weeks. One message, written like it cost her an hour:Â
Megan: Iâm proud of us. Not the us that didnât make it. The us that loved in a way that didnât make the other smaller. Iâll be at the park with strawberries someday when I can say your name without sending a fire alarm through a team. If youâre there. If youâre not, thank you for giving me a place to be a person.
You stare until the words double. You type, delete, type, delete, because pain wants a thesis. You send:
You: Be loud about the things that save you. If Iâm ever one of them again, youâll know where to find me.
She sends a heart. The gray kind. Careful, even now.
â
You learn your apartment again by absence. The shoes that arenât by the door. The cap in the drawer you pretend not to open. The dent her body didnât make in your couch last night. You dismantle the set piece by piece: her scrunchie from the lamp, the folded lyric page under a coaster. You keep one Post-it: for when you forget to eat lunch, menace. You stick it on the inside of a cabinet so you donât have to look at it until you can.
You walk past the big billboard by the station and donât look up even when you know the lighting on the photo would make you weak. You go home and make rice and eat it from the pot because the sink is too far from where you are. You lose hours to stupid shows that donât know your name. You sleep badly and then, eventually, less badly. The ache goes from a shout to a hum to a fact
â
Months later you stop in a convenience store after midnight and two kids at the register are watching a clip on a phone. Meganâs laugh tinny from the tiny speaker. âShe said her favorite fruit is strawberries,â one whispers. âMe too.â You pay for your ice cream and step into the cold without making it a metaphor. The night is just the night.
Sometimes you run into her by accidentâelevator, lobby, bookstore aisle. You say hi like youâre not remembering sixty different versions of the same kitchen. She says your name like she isnât supposed to, like itâs a cuss and a prayer. You both lie and tell the truth in the same sentences: how are you, good, you look good, you too. You walk away on legs that didnât exist when you met her. Later your phone lights once:
Megan: Iâm being loud about the things that save me. I hope you are too.Â
You: I am.Â
You donât add even when it hurts. She knows.
This isnât a happy ending. Itâs a true one. Two people who loved each other in a way that didnât shrink the other. Two people who wanted different futures and were brave enough not to pretend that didnât matter. Two people who kept the best parts and let the rest be kindling.
It still burns sometimes. In the aisle with the cereal. In the glow of your fridge when you open it at 2 a.m. and see the Post-it on the inside of the cabinet and smile anyway like an idiot. In the silence after a long day when you catch yourself saying out loud, âhands,â to no one.
You stick a new Post-it beside hers in your own handwriting: eat lunch anyway. You tape a grocery list underneath: bread, ibuprofen, flowers for my stupid table. You let yourself be loud about what saves youâfriends who show up with milk tea, playlists that donât make you cry, sun on the floor at 3 p.m., the knowledge that being loved in private wasnât fake even if it wasnât enough.
Youâre okay. Not every hour. Enough of them.
And in a dorm that is chaos and family, Megan is okay tooâgetting yelled at by Sophia for leaving her cup on the counter, high-fived by Manon for a dumb joke, harmonized at by Lara in the hallway, bullied affectionately by Daniela who insists her pitch was off, eviscerated by a single deadpan sentence from Yoonchae that makes the room howl. She presses her phone to her chest some nights and thinks of your kitchen light, your stupid fruit drawer, the strawberry Post-it. She knows what she chose. She knows what she lost. She sings anyway. It isnât a betrayal; itâs an echo.
Thatâs the hurt and the mercy of it: you both keep going. You do not turn around on the bench. You do not kiss goodbye at the door. You donât make it cinematic for anyone. You choose the unfilmed version: you walk away and donât look back, and the night holds the sound of it like proof.

"You were just Megan's little sister. The cute girl who certainly wasn't Lara's type. But wait, when did you get so hot?"
warnings - Fluff, reader was the ugly duckling :(
now playing - When Did You Get Hot?, by Sabrina Carpenter
"When did you get hot? All the sudden I could look you up and down all day. When did you get hot? I think I would remember if you had that face"
Lara was lying on the dance floor, breathing heavily as she tried to regain her senses. Rehearsals for Lollapalooza were crazy, and although she was happier than ever with everything the girls were achieving, Lara couldn't wait to get home.
The Indian girl's attempt to relax was quickly cut short by Megan's phone. The notifications were loud enough to deafen sensitive ears and disturb the peace of anyone within a 30-meter radius.
Groaning in annoyance, Lara rolled onto the floor, lying face down as she watched her pink-streaked friend run toward the phone she was charging nearby.
âCan you please throw your phone in the water? I'm trying to relax here!â Although true, Lara's tone let Megan know that nothing she was saying was serious.
âSorry, I'm waiting for my siblings to text me. Yn is in town and is coming to drop me off some food!â Megan's voice had an extra bounce to it, and Lara remembered you immediately.
The Indian girl remembered you. She remembers being in contact with you when the girls were at Dream Academy. She remembers how Megan always talked about you and how Lara had to meet you.
Now, Lara had nothing against you! Not at all! But you just weren't exactly her type. The Indian girl remembers you being a year younger than her, remembers your messy hair and your stutter whenever you tried to say more than two words to her.
Don't get me wrong, she thought you were cute. You just weren't for her.
Lara clearly remembers how you obviously had a crush on her, but she made it very clear that you would just be good friends!
Time passed, and a lot has happened since Dream Academy. The girls debuted, traveled part of the world, became famous with their songs and choreography, and everyone loved their personalities.
Lara didn't have time.
All she knew about you was that you were in college, studying something she hadn't had time to ask about.
âWow, I haven't seen her in a while. Does she still stutter as much as I remember?â Lara's voice sounded amused, and the Indian girl raised her hands in surrender when she saw the look Megan was giving her.
âStay away from my sister!â Megan got up from Lara's side and walked toward the studio door.
Still not satisfied with the conversation, Lara followed the Chinese girl, laughing behind her like a child who had just done something naughty.
âAs far as I remember, you should tell her to stay away from me! She was the one who had a huge crush on me!â The Indian girl caught up with Megan, still laughing at the whole situation.
Stopping at the building's reception desk, Megan rolled her eyes.
âLook, I'm serious! You haven't seen her in a long time, and you always do this thing of saying that people get better with time.â Megan looked at the front door, waiting impatiently for the girl she wanted so badly to see to walk through the door.
âI've never been interested in her, Megan. You know that better than anyone, so you don't have to worry...â
Suddenly, Lara's words were interrupted by Megan's shrill scream. The girl ran quickly toward the front door of the building and threw herself against a very tall person.
Frowning, Lara narrowed her eyes to see better. The person was tall enough to touch the ceiling of Lara's room with their hands. The arms that wrapped around Megan's waist when she jumped into them were muscular, and Lara seriously wondered if that person could lift her car with one hand. The person's head was between Megan's neck, but their clothes were as stylish as those Lara saw in store advertisements.
Person.
Lara didn't know who that person was.
Weren't they waiting for Megan's younger sister?
Then who the hell was that person?
Reality hit the Indian girl like a bomb in her stomach when Megan finally let the tall figure go.
It was you!
There was no way! Lara couldn't believe that person could be you! But she was there, seeing it with her own eyes!
Lara's eyes did a double take.
Triple take!
Her previously unkempt hair now had a cool, edgy cut, messed up in just the right way. Her poor posture was gone, replaced by a straight posture that matched her back muscles. And her awkward gait was gone, and all that remained was a feeling of nervousness when Lara saw you walking toward her.
âLara, don't you know Yn?â Megan's voice echoed in the Indian girl's head.
You were standing in front of her, towering over her to tell the truth! Your face was more mature, your jawline defined, your cheekbones protruding in just the right way, your mouth full, your nose perfectly shaped, and your eyes enchanting. She would definitely remember you if you had looked like this before!
Lara tilted her head to the left, almost like a lost puppy.
You used to do that!
When did the tables turn?
Why was Lara's heart beating so fast? Why did your smile seem so irresistible now? Why was she wanting to steal you away from Megan just to look at you for the rest of the day?
When did you get hot???
âHuh?!â
Sabrina wrote this song for all of us (me) who were ugly children and grew up to be hot (me again)!!!
Anyway, this is pretty short, guys... but I was thinking about doing more parts, idk... I'm exploring the options.
I have a lot of things to do, but classes are keeping me busy. I have a project to turn in in a few days, so I'm racing against time (as usual).
To fill my time, I'm now doing an extra activity! I decided to enroll in a martial arts gym! It's fun, but I spend most of my days swamped with things on my schedule!
I hope you are all doing well. Drink water and stay safe.
how would reader and megan sleep?? iâm loving all your responses
I think Megan loves the AC absolutely blasting to the point where her room is actually freezing. She has like two blankets and a comforter to keep you two warm.
This, of course, is just to have an excuse to get as close to you as possible. I can see her burying her hands up your shirt when you're cuddling since she just needs to feel your skin as well as tangling your legs together so your bodies are properly slotted together. There's no such thing as personal space when it comes to sleeping with Megan. She needs to be in your skin.
If not, she's cuddling up next to you under the covers so it just looks like you're sleeping next to a big bundle of blankets. Sometimes she goes under at night and you don't see her again until the morning lol. And she's always moving so expect the blankets to be mostly on her side when you wake up.
