Rose & Blue Hues - a peaceful wintry sunset on the La Plata mountain range.
The night apple.
Sunlight catching the incense just right.
This was a custom media center, I guess you could say, that I made while living in Las Vegas, NV. I had been lugging around my old books for what felt like forever, and I wanted to put good use to them. In the past, my books were a bit of pride for me...You know, a representation of work, a timeline of learning, place of reference, efforts, understanding, bla bla, whatever, etc. However, in my ever reaching desire to minimize junk, waste, ego & weight in my life, after hauling them back to MN in June of '24, I donated them all, but a few brain-burners, to Magers and Quinn Booksellers in Uptown, MPLS.

Failed Epic Hike turns to Winning Sandwich Spot
I drove to Lizard Head Wilderness area (pic 1) with the high hopes of hiking/scrambling my first 13er, Dolores Peak (pic 2). However, after hiking through a hunter's camp near the Fish Creek Trailhead, and talking with a couple of the men, who were relaxing back at camp with the rest of the hunt party, I decided to turn back. One fella from Eau Claire, WI, said there were other hunt groups in the area firing rounds, and that they use all of the land up to the tree line. Another guy confirmed that many of the hunters drive all the way from Texas, and so I quickly realized that getting shot in the shoulder blade and or ruining someone's hunt by scaring off their elk, was not an option. Honestly, I was glad because my body was stupid tired. I think I've been battling a bug, and with other excursions as of late, my body needed rest. With that said, I drove down the mountain, took my dog for a quick 2 mile hike on Kilpacker Trail (pic 3 & 4), and then sat in my car with the windows down while a ate a sandwich, with a nice view to the north and east (pics 5 & 6).

The Milky Way Galaxy - My first attempt at night sky photography
Yesterday's walk in the high desert turned out to be a natural experience, I won't soon forget. I saw what appeared to be a funnel forming on the western horizon in the Four Corners area of Colorado/Utah state line. So, naturally, I drove as far west as I could, scrambled across some fair canyons, settled on a high ledge and watched the show unfold. The energy was palpable and the sky quickly enveloped my location, but stayed fairly steady, until pouring sheets of rain hastened my retreat . At that point, I packed my camera, and with my dog at my heal, ran back to my car. Anyway, here are most of the images I captured. The last picture was down the gravel/state road, and I had to stop and take a picture because I thought the triangular rock resembled a turtle's mouth and nose.
