Chapter 9: Talk
When they got out of the limo, Lonnie went to grab the swords from the back so she could take them back to the gym before anyone realized they were gone.
Though Carlos pulled her aside to ask if she could take the sword he'd nabbed from Harry and leave it in his dorm instead, to which she happily agreed.
It felt like a punch to the gut when he saw Jane approaching them, but thankfully she was still in full cotillion mode asking Ben about bunting or banners or whatever, that she didn't even acknowledge Carlos standing off to the side clutching Dude to his chest like he was his security blanket.
He felt so stupid for what he'd tried to do, and for the trouble it caused. He knew he needed to talk to her and straighten things out.
But before he could do anything, she was ushering Ben away, and then Evie was swooping in to steal Mal away for another round of girl talk, and Carlos knew he had to put his foot down.
"No!"
Both girls froze on the spot and turned to look at him in confusion.
"No?" Evie echoed.
"After everything that just happened, we don't need to be splitting up again," Carlos said, looking between his friends. "We're family. All four of us. We've been through a lot. Together. I'm not stopping that now. Okay?"
