Experiencing and watching that slow descent into trance is what has had me so enamored since I first learned what hypnosis was. There are so many styles of inductions and hypnotists can stick to the classics or invent new induction methods as they please, its a constantly expanding list of methods.

Take for example the swinging pocket watch, the original, classic, famous. It carries with it an expectation. “Oh a hypnotist is swinging a pocket watch in front of my eyes… I am being hypnotized”. The back and forth, back and forth, steady, rhythmic, motion and perhaps the sound of ticking in the background, itching your brain as the hypnotist speaks, droning on and on about how you need to focus and follow the watch as you start to feel the physical sensations of trance.

I love drooping eyelids, so hard to keep open, so heavy, fluttering, propped up with only willpower, knowing they’ll snap shut in an instant should the hypnotist command it. I love following swinging, spinning spirals, a fixed point, rolling my eyes up, all exercises that make them so, so heavy.

Brain fogging up with sleep, for me at least this is a very important and potent part of trance. I physically feel numb in the head when I go deep. Breathing slow and deep, making my body slightly cold and warm, a mix of sensations. A buzzing, tingling sensation like my leg fell asleep but in my head. I feel tired, numb, heavy, it’s very pleasant and if I give in to it, the sensation just radiates out and my whole body tingles and pulses with a relaxing vibration of submission and sleep. I could describe it as a willing and positive feeling panic attack. Loss of control of limbs and thoughts stilled, focused, hard to even move my mouth.

The sinking feeling. Total relaxation. A state that I have practiced for many years and still have not perfected and yet when done perfectly the trance I experience is truly addicting. The surrender, the release of self, the trust given to another. I love it, I love to stop thinking and enter a state of absolute bliss. A good induction completely makes or breaks a hypnosis session for me.

My second favorite part of hypnosis is waking from trance and only remembering the induction. The realization of how deep you were as your brain, still foggy, scrambles to remember something it can’t😵‍💫💚
