Politics were not a dinner table discussion. Politics were not family gathering discussion. Politics were not holiday or graduation discussion. Coming from a family who did not frequent politics. A grandmother who did not support politics, a great grandmother who was just happy her parents were lucky to become American citizens. You learn politics from those around you. Varying degrees of opinions. A blank slate in your mind with no influence deciding your own beliefs. Not having a family of politics means doing your own research. Becoming who you are without influence and with only facts. You start to read and read papers, and novels, and history books. You realize the battle it took to accomplish the steps weโve taken. To make people realize we are EQUAL. To give those their rights to vote, to choose, to make their own decisions. Decisions including abortion. Woman did not get the right to vote til fucking 1920โฆ it was only a little over 100 years ago women started to be acknowledged as humans. Now we are rewinding time by the decisions being made. As a little girl they used to prep us with the โPledge of Allegianceโ and the question of โwould you fight for your country??โ As a child we were expected to answer yes. As an adult.. why fight for a country and pledge to those who can not even protect our rights as women and people? This is not about how it makes people feel. It is not about religion or god. And there should be no โitโs only acceptable if-.โ This is about having the choice over our bodies. If men are allowed access to sexual health why is it so difficult for women? This isnโt just about abortion it is about what comes after. Birth control, emergency contraceptive, reinstating the pink tax. This may not directly affect you now but it will later. When decisions keep getting reversed because they know they can get away with it. Donโt let them get away with it. My Body My Choice.
