so she continues to observe them, until they sit down at their table. that’s when her boss nudges her toward them, eleanor taking in a nervous breath before putting on her best ‘customer service’ face. 

“ h - hello ! i’m eleanor, you can call me ‘el’ if you’d like ! i’ll be your waitress today. is there anything i could start you off with ? “

           “  a  pumpkin  juice  .  with  four  ice  cubes  ,  ”  she  rattles  off  ,  emphasising  the  number  in  order  to  convey  the  importance  that  the  waitress  get  it  right  ,  “  thank  you  .  ”  she  adds  on  ,  an  afterthought  —  staring  down  the  bridge  of  her  nose  at  a  tiny  toothpaste  stain  on  the  sleeve  of  her  dark  green  turtleneck  .  “  merlin .  ”  she  mutters  ,  pursing  her  lips  and  snatching  a  napkin  off  the  table  to  scrub  at  it  .  cleaning  charms  were  not  yet  a  specialty  of  hers  ,  and  she  would  rather  be  eaten  by  an  erkling  than  embarrass  herself  in  front  of  a  madam  puddifoot’s  waitress  .

          the  main  entry  point  to  the  ministry  was  jam  packed  in  the  early  morning  ,  bustling  with  ministry  authorized  wix  who  were  late  to  their  morning  meetings  in  their  respective  departments  and  laywixen  who  were  there  by  summons  alike  .   craning  her  neck  for  the  flying  document  that  one  of  the  more  senior  clerks  had  sent  off  without  noting  the  proper  addressee  ,  narcissa’s  freshly  polished  loafers  had  already  accrued  a  modest  collection  of  scuffs  ,  courtesy  of  the  shoes  of  passersby  .  “  can  you  see  up  in  that  far  corner  ?  ”  she  points  with  a  fingernail  painted  a  pearlescent  pink  .  “  i’m  looking  for  a  black  envelope  .  official  wizengamot  seal  .  ”

(  cis  woman  |  she / her  |  olivia  scott  welch  )  ——  isn’t  that  NARCISSA  BLACK ?  yeah  that  is  them ,  outside  the  leaky  cauldron !  they  used  to  be  in  SLYTHERIN  but  apparently  they  now  work  as  a  CLERK  for  the  WIZENGAMOT  ADMINISTRATIVE  SERVICES .  they  always  seemed  to  remind  me  of  uncomfortably  straightened  posture  ,  a  combination  of  pearls  and  jewels  strung  around  a  slim  neck  ,  loyalty  that  can  morph  you  into  someone  you  don’t  recognize  ,  soothing  a  sunburn  with  cool  water  ,  and  velvet  in  a  shade  of  green  so  deep  that  it  almost  appears  black  ,  which  seems  about  right .  anyway  i’ve  heard  they’re  still  a  bit  DISDAINFUL ,  POISED ,  and  CODEPENDENT .  they’re  NINETEEN  now  but  some  things  never  change ! i  wonder  how  being  a  PUREBLOOD  is  affecting  them  after  school ,    especially  now  they’re  NEUTRAL (DEATH EATER INFORMANT) ?  when  was  it  they  graduated  again ,  1977 ?  has  it  really  been  that  long …
