Nobody could have anticipated such tragedy in so short a time. It wasn't long after the full moon passed that JuniperClan cats were being found dead in their nests. Strong, capable warriors, fine one day and dead the next-- no wounds, no sign of illness. Just a pelt cold to the touch and flanks that would never carry a breath again. The first time, it was a fluke. The second time, a coincidence. But as the moon draws to a close, more lives have been claimed than a battle could ever hope to seize, even taking one of the standing pioneers, Coppertooth.

After enough cats had died to deduce a pattern, it was found that cats that ate prey hunted near the LichenClan border had been the ones with their lives cut short. JuniperClan has been surviving since by hunting along their eastern border, though it has resulted in a significant loss of prey. Cats have been skimping on meals to ensure every mouth is fed, and it has been sowing seeds of resentment for LichenClan. While they haven't yet confronted their neighbors to the east-- an action prohibited by Storkstar-- many of the hotheaded warriors of JuniperClan insist on an explanation from the mountain-dwellers.
