As a gift for you and @fae-in-the-woods of FLT's anniversary; Here, have this doodle of Dave and Rupert! šš§”
Also I just doodled this last night for fun and I thought I'd repurpose as a gift.
They both mean so much to me since last year and it was a delight to read about them!
Just some notes of this drawing:
The scar on Dave's right shoulder is from the airship crash in PBT.
As you can probably tell, I love tall lanky Dave and short king Rupert.
Dave's hair is heavily inspired by my sibling's hair! Especially the lower fluffs.
For Rupert, this is one of the first times he let himself loose around someone, considering he has a complicated upbringing. Especially Dave.
This drawing takes place post-PBT adjacent part of CtM. Look, I am quiet sucker for Triple Threat but PBT holds a special spot for me because of Dave (Sorry, Dave. A writer's love be damned upon you, but not too damned).
Ahhhh thank you so much, Shawm!! It looks fantastic! I love how you drew the hair, and the expressions are so soft!! :D I also love the notes; theyāre very interesting!
Iām so glad you enjoyed the oneshot :) And thank you again for the doodle; it is much appreciated!!!

Itās Been Five Years Lost Together (Close Enough to Forever)
So itās April 13th, and that means itās Forever Lost Togetherās Five Year Anniversary! Crazy!
FLTās had a pretty tumultuous ride. Considering my output five years sounds like a long time, but FLTās been through:
Several hiatuses, one a year long
multiple other fandom fixations
a complete rewrite of Howl
my high school graduation and multiple years of college
a complete novel
Faeās endless suffering
So... really, it's a miracle that this thing is getting made at all. But I'm glad I stuck with it, after everything.
And speaking of sticking with it- wow. Iām in awe of all the support itās gotten, from comments to hits to kudos. Thanks again for this wonderful and little fandom, for whom I am incredibly grateful and have loved seeing over the past few years on the outside- and now inside it!
This is the first year Iāve been on tumblr actively for the anniversary. Usually itās a private affair between myself and my dear beta @fae-in-the-woods, but this time, Iām glad to share it with the wider community.
Honestly writing this is making me kind of emotional. FLT has been through major life changes, graduations, massive steps forward in my writing ability and discipline, and has taught me more about myself and writing than anything else. I love these silly little characters and their relationships more than anything.
Hereās to another five years of Forever Lost Together!
And now, for what weāve all been waiting for: the writing!
Started: so long ago I wasn't keeping track of that yet; Finished: 03/31/26
WC: 8,074 words
A/N: I started this a very long time ago, probably around December of 2024, and just recently realized I wanted something to commemorate five years of this silly little fanfic. I had actually written quite a bit of this already, but with some added scenes, edits, and a nice conclusion- I think it's a lot of fun :)
This takes place AFTER Clusterhug, but won't contain spoilers for the ending of FLT. I avoid anything like that. Fluff awaits!
āAre you three being for real right now?ā Rupert asked, simultaneously shocked and appalled.Ā
Triple Threat exchanged guilty, but also incredulous looks. Somehow, in sixteen years of coexistence, they had never thrown a birthday party.Ā
āHow the hell did you manage that?ā Rupert asked. āNot even for yourselves?ā
āNone of us kept track of our ages for obvious reasons,ā Henry snarked back. āWhatās the point of a party when weāre all too busy, say, ripping the Toppats apart? Or making waves in the government? And it felt a bit redundant to hold a birthday party when our ages would just regress again, anyway.ā
āHuh?ā Ellie said, puzzled. āI just forgot mine.ā
Henry rolled his eyes. āYouāre a special case, darling.ā
Rupertās eyes slid to Charles. āAnd you? I know you got invited to everyone elseās.ā
āAgain, busy!ā Charles said. āAnd besides, itās not like I was throwing the party. I just brought, like, cookies or something. I dunno. It was never for me.ā
āSurely we threw you a birthday party at some point,ā Rupert said uncomfortably.Ā
āBuddy, buddy, donāt feel bad. Iām pretty sure I kept dodging the question every time you brought it up, anyway. At some point it was funnier to make you all keep guessing. I did that one year, I think.ā
Ellie snorted. āOf course you did.ā
They sat outside of a small coffee shop on a sunny April day. It was one of Henryās favorites- close enough to the apartment to grab something to drink, far enough away to be a nice stroll and a change of pace. Rupert, strangely, hadnāt objected to the cheerful little place despite his general disposition. Heād been loosening up, lately.Ā
Henry nursed a latte. Ellie had a coffee that was mostly creamer and sweeteners at this point, but it was a rare treat of hers. Rupert also had a sugary monstrosity, one that, with a sharp glare, he had dared the others to comment on.Ā
Charles, of course, had tea. He was still banned from coffee.Ā
At Rupertās doubtful look, Charles hurried to continue. āBut we can do it! It canāt be that hard, right?ā
āAnd Iām sure Dave of all people wants a small, lowkey party; yes?ā Henry said emphatically. Heād gotten to know Dave much better since theyād met so unfortunately on that airship, and he couldnāt imagine Dave wanting something intense. The poor thing would probably blip out of existence if more than eight people showed up.Ā
Rupert sighed. āYeah. Iām sure. I want it to be a surprise, so I canāt do it anywhere too close to base, which takes out our apartment and the twinsā and Ameliaās. Iām stuck with you three.āĀ
āYe of little faith,ā Henry crowed, reaching over and patting Rupertās hand. Rupert made a face. āOf course we can throw a surprise party for Dave. You forget that Iāve thrown many a Toppat gala in my time.ā Of course, the two werenāt remotely similar, but surely some skills carried over; right?
āIām out of options,ā Rupert said dryly. His hard line of a mouth softened slightly as he sighed. āBut, uh, thank you.ā
Charles flung an arm around Rupert. āAw, man, of course! You know we love Dave too. And god knows he deserves something nice in his life.ā
āYeah, I bet you never treat him to dinner or anything,ā Ellie said slyly, leaning forward.Ā
Rupert flushed almost as hotly as the coffee he nearly spilled. āI- You- I treat him well! What are you getting at, Rose?ā At Ellieās grin, he flushed even deeper. āShut the hell up. He does not need your mocking right now.ā He glared over at Henry, who was valiantly trying to hide his laughter with a cough.Ā
āAll Iām saying is life is short, dude, and so is someone who would love a tough guy like you,ā Ellie cooed.Ā
Rupert sat back and rolled his eyes. He was learning; at one time an obvious baiting statement like that would have gotten his hackles risen and teeth bared like a threatened wolf in no time. Now, he just looked back to Henry and Charles.Ā
āIām working on it,ā he said, making the three of them grin. āDaveās- I donāt want to pressure him. I mean, I was the first person he met since- everything. I donāt want to make him feel like he has to date me, or anything.ā
āDude,ā Ellie said.Ā
āItās obvious,ā Henry said. āLook, Rupert, knowing Dave- I have the utmost confidence in you. Oh! Perhaps the party would be a good time to ask him?ā
āThen? What if it goes wrong?ā Rupert hissed.Ā
āThen we get him drunk as he can be and he forgets about it,ā Charles said.Ā
Rupert glared at the three of them for a long moment, eyes narrowing at their hopeful gazes. ā...Iāll think about it,ā he said slowly. āANYWAYS, logistics,ā he said quickly before any of the three of them could butt in. āSo you guys will set it up? Do I need to grab-ā
Charles was already shaking his head. āNah, buddy. Weāll get all the party supplies and stuff. Donāt worry about it.ā
Rupert looked like he was getting ready to protest when Henry interrupted him. āYou know we can literally summon things, right? This wonāt be an expensive venture. Weāre also thieves. And have a lot of money stored up over the years. The wonders you can do on a government salary and a Toppat salary and keeping all that money in the hammerspace.ā
āAfter everything, Iād honestly think youād wanna bully us out of a few hundred bucks anyway,ā Ellie chuckled.Ā
Rupert paused. āYeah, you all deserve it,ā he conceded. āAnd it wonāt be that expensive, surely. Iām not looking for perfection.ā
Oh, that wouldnāt do. āI am,ā Henry crooned. āHow many other times will Dave let us throw him a surprise party? And how many other times will I get these killjoys to decorate the apartment nicely with me?ā
āDude, Iām so done with Toppat galas,ā Ellie groaned. āTheyāve given me enough grief to last a lifetime.ā
āAnd Iām having withdrawals!ā Henry retorted. āI need some useless, obnoxious fancy parties in my life, Ellie! And if we sneak into a Toppat event, theyāre gonna recognize us. Carol doesnāt forgive nor forget.ā
āShe likes me, now. Still hates you.ā Ellie grinned at Henryās sigh.Ā
āThatās the point, darling. She wonāt let-ā
āItāll be lowkey,ā Henry heard Charles whisper to Rupert as he and Ellie continued bickering. āNothing Daveāll feel overwhelmed by.ā
āThanks,ā Rupert murmured. āI just wanna do something nice for him, yāknow? God knows he deserves it after the shit weāve put him through.ā
āDave should be paid a lot for his, uh, his suffering,ā Charles said, snorting.Ā
āFine,ā Ellie said, and Charles tuned back into the conversation. āWeāll sneak into one. But Iām not saving you from Carol.ā
āYou drive a hard bargain, my dear,ā Henry said, leaning back. āBut I accept.ā
āYou realize I canāt listen to this conversation, right?ā Rupert huffed. āItās technically illegal.ā
āWeāre Triple Threat. Weāre Galeforceās specialest little guys. Weāll be fine,ā Ellie said. She grinned at Rupertās wrinkled nose. āSorry he plays favorites.āĀ
āYouāre all insane,ā Rupert said. He downed the rest of his coffee and stood. āAnyways, Iām actually gonna start planning. Next Saturday, remember?ā
āAye aye, captain,ā Charles said. Rupert glowered at him, and Charles smiled back.Ā
āWhatever, idiot,ā Rupert muttered. Charles giggled.Ā
ā¦
The grocery store at nearly midnight was basically deserted. There were a couple of tired new parents, some night shift workers, and a bored employee who didnāt seem as amused by Triple Threatās cart situation as they were.Ā
Ellie lounged in the cart. Her head was dropped back against the back of the cart, eyes listing around as Henry muttered over a list and Charles hopped on the back of the shopping cart to get a few steps of free movement. Charles spared a glance down to see Ellie just staring at him.Ā
āWhat?ā he asked.Ā
āWhat?ā Ellie asked.Ā
āYou started looking at me.ā
āMy dear Rose,ā Henry strained through gritted teeth. Charles looked up at where Henry stretched for a pile of streamers on the top shelf. Ellie flicked her hand, and the streamers flew into Henryās hands. He tossed them in the cart with a satisfied sigh. āAh, thank you.ā
A gasp behind them. Charles glanced back to see a very puzzled man staring at them, hand halfway to a candle box.Ā Ā
āItās hereditary,ā Charles said by way of explanation. He quickly wheeled them out of the aisle.Ā
āShouldnāt we get him black and white and gray streamers?ā Ellie asked. āI mean, with his whole- thing?ā
āPlease. We donāt want to make this party sad,ā Henry sniffed. āAnd heās more than just his power. Letās not be insensitive here.ā
āYeah, yeah. Whatās his favorite color?ā Ellie asked.
āBlack, I think?ā Henry said.
Ellie glanced at Charles. Charles snorted. He tried to think of a witty response, but before he could, his phone buzzed.Ā
Puzzled, Charles glanced down at his phone. He put a hand over his mouth, resisting the urge to laugh.Ā
Grumpyface :(: OF ALL THE DAMN STORES CHARLES CALVIN
Grumpyface :(: AND THE ONE TIME YOU KNOW WE CAN GO
Grumpyface :(: ARE YOU STPID
Grumpyface :(: STUPID*
You: buddy buddy my bad! How was I supposed to know?
Grumpyface :(: COMMON SENSE
Ellie glanced over at Charles and his wide grin. āWhat?ā
āWe may be in the same store as Rupert and Dave,ā Charles said.
āTruly?ā Henry said, alarmed. āUh-oh.ā
āI bet Rupertās flaming us,ā she muttered.Ā
āHe is not happy,ā Charles giggled. āCāmon, weād better get outta here-ā
āOh! Hey!ā
Triple Threat all choked as a familiar voice reached them. Charles whipped his head up and spotted Dave on the other end of the isle, striding toward them, a glowering Rupert behind him.Ā
āShit,ā Charles whispered.Ā
Henry looked frantically toward their cart. āEllie,ā he hissed. āHide the-ā
āHow are we gonna hide the stuff!ā she hissed back. āItās all just laying on me!ā
āYour inventory!ā Henry whispered intensely.Ā
āI canāt get it in that fast!ā
āGuys! Act natural!ā Charles whispered frantically. He kicked Henryās foot. Henry squawked in pain, but Charles grabbed his arm, hoisting him up to a full standing position. He put on his brightest beam as Dave trotted up to them.Ā
āDave!ā Charles said cheerfully. He stepped around the cart, obstructing as much of it with his body as he could, and grabbed Daveās hand (getting it on the second try) in a handshake pulled into a brief hug. āHey, itās good to see you, buddy buddy!ā
āHi!ā Dave smiled. āDoing some late night shopping?ā
āThey usually go at normal times,ā Rupert growled. āTheyāre not supposed to be here.ā
Ā Charles shot him a grin that said donāt blow our cover or Iāll blow your head off. At least, thatās what he tries to convey. Rupertās glare conveyed that message far more succinctly.Ā
āAh, last minute supplies, you understand,ā Henry said. āBut hello, Dave, how are you?ā
āāSup?ā Ellie said too casually. Sheād squirmed into a position where she was trying to block as much of the supplies with her body as possible, but it looked horribly unnatural.Ā
āGood! I mean, you know we do our grocery shopping at this time for a reason, haha,ā Dave said. āHey, don't you guys have a mission coming up?ā
Despite all their efforts, Dave leaned around Charles and looked into their basket. Triple Threat, and Rupert, froze.Ā
āBirthday supplies?ā Dave asked curiously. Rupert glared murderously at the three of them over Daveās head.Ā
āUh,ā Charles said.Ā
āUm,ā Ellie said.Ā
āWhy, itās for a mission!ā Henry broke in quickly. Charles breathed a sigh of relief. Henryās quick wit would save them again. Hopefully.
āNever seen a kind of mission like this,ā Dave said with an incredulous laugh.Ā
āWeāre infiltrating the Midnight Syndicateās headquarters during James, their leaderās, birthday,ā Henry said smoothly. He smiled casually, as if this was an amusing anecdote. āWe have to look the part, you see, and hide our weapons. Itās quite the bonanza, too, so weāre just getting a bunch of everything and seeing what we can do.ā Henry grinned. āIām already thinking of some amazing things to make out of this stuff.ā
āWhatās better than, uh, cheap, tacky dollar store supplies?ā Charles said. He resisted a yelp as Henry kicked him for trying to interject on his story.Ā
āOh! Smart,ā Dave said brightly. Behind him, Rupert heaved a sigh of relief. āYou guys really never have an uninteresting mission, do you?āĀ
āThus is the life of Triple Threat,ā Henry said with a mild shrug. āWeāre cursed with chaos and intrigue.ā
Rupert coughed loudly. āDave, we better get going,ā he muttered. āFor the⦠uh⦠pizzas we ordered.ā
āWe⦠didnāt they say 30 minutes?ā Dave asked, puzzled.Ā
āItās- been 20,ā Rupert said quickly. He was clearly lying.Ā
āOh, well then. I didnāt even realize! I just lose the time nowadays,ā Dave said, taking the bait hook, line, and sinker. āWeāll see you guys!ā Dave said with a wave. āGood luck on your mission!ā He nudged Rupert.Ā
āUh- good luck,ā Rupert said.Ā
āThank you ever so much,ā Henry said with a mischievous grin. Ellie badly hid a wheeze. Charles quietly whacked her. Rupert sent them one last glare over Daveās head before turning and stalking off after an oblivious Dave.Ā
āShut up!ā Charles whispered gleefully to Ellie, who was dropping her head into her arms, muffling her cackling.Ā
āJamesās birthday party?ā she wheezed.Ā
āWhat else was I going to say!ā Henry hissed. āYou two were useless! God, I have to do everything around here.ā
Charlesās phone pinged.Ā
Grumpyface :(: I hate you.Ā
You: ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
You: Got Daveās gift yet?
Grumpyface :(: die.
āMan, we should totally actually do that sometime,ā Charles said, also hiding his giggles. āBut, uh, letās get outta here before Rupert kills us.ā
ā¦
Rupert was acting very, very strange.Ā
Dave blinked at Rupert. āYou⦠want to take the powers?ā
āYes,ā Rupert said.Ā
āAw, Rupert, you donāt have to,ā Dave said with a soft laugh. āWhatās the special occasion?ā
Rupert jolted. āUh- well, you have it most of the time,ā he said. āI figured Iād- give you a break.ā He began to reach for Daveās shoulder.Ā
āItās really not a big deal?ā Dave said. āYouāre being weird.ā
āIām not being weird!ā Rupert said hotly.Ā
Dave held his hands up. āā¦That⦠um⦠okay?ā He began to transfer the power into Rupert. The static began to drain away from Daveās mind, flowing from his fingertips into Rupert. No matter how many times he did it, he never quite got used to the sensation. āI mean, if you need it, you could just say-ā
Rupertās entire body shifted into highlighter greens and overlaid colors. āNo itās fine. Just. Um, yeah, Galeforce was going to have me-ā
āI mean itās pretty useful for missions-ā
āItās just really convenient for stuff-āĀ
āI know, but you could just say-ā
āIām not using you for your power, like that would just be-ā
āRu, I know youāre not using me for my power, haha thatās ridiculous-ā
āYeah.ā
āYeah.ā
They stood there in awkward silence for a moment. Good job, Dave, he told himself. At least the Announcer wasnāt commenting on this.
Dave hesitated, still puzzled. āI still donāt know why you wouldnāt just-?ā
āBYE.ā
And then Rupert was gone in a flash of static.
āUm,ā Dave said into an empty room. He hadnāt been aware that Rupert had somewhere to be. But with how strange Rupert was acting⦠He blinked. āOkay.ā
He hoped Rupert was okay. This was stranger than normal. Was it something to do with him? He couldnāt think of anything he mightāve doneā¦
He jumped as Rupert appeared in a flash. Rupert strode purposefully into the kitchen, grabbed the cake tin, and glanced back. āSorry,ā he said. āCalvin wanted this. Also. Ignore any packages that show up. Itās. For work.ā
Then, he was gone again.Ā
āOkay?ā Dave said again into the empty room, even more baffled.Ā
The empty apartment, however, held no answers.Ā
ā¦
Amelia knew Rupert must have appeared when she heard twin yelps of surprise from Calvin and Konrad. āJesus, man!ā Konrad gasped. āGod, Iām never gonna get used to that.ā
āYeah, yeah,ā said Rupertās droning, almost computerized tone. āYou have the ingredients?ā
Amelia trotted into the kitchen as Calvin proudly held up a recipe. It looked frayed and worn. āEverything we need, Rupert. Donāt worry, dude- weāve done this a thousand times. Itās family tradition.ā
āYeah, and itās gonna be extra-special for your boyfriend,ā Konrad quipped. āWe got our grandmotherās secret recipe! You better be grateful.ā
Rupert sputtered, a sound that was more akin to a computer beeping in alarm than a human squawk. āHeās not-ā
āYeah, yeah, but if everything goes right, he will be,ā Amelia blurted out. Rupert whirled on her.Ā
āDid Charlesā¦ā he growled.
āEllie, actually,ā Amelia said. āWhat? We hang out; you know this. We need our girlās nights!ā A beat. āAnd sometimes, the gossip spreads. Intentions are made clear. Rumors are heard. All Iām saying, what weāre all saying, is that youāre gonna do great.ā
āYouāre menaces. We shouldāve never introduced the two of you.ā
āOh, please. Iām observant, as even our resident weirdos say. And youāre extremely obvious.ā
As Amelia and Rupert bickered, the twins were moving easily around each other and the kitchen, grabbing ingredients, starting the oven, pulling out a pan. Konrad seemed immensely focused. Calvin was slightly less so, and he glanced over at Amelia and Rupert, lingering hesitantly by the door.Ā
āAre you two gonna help, or do we need to banish you to the living room so you can fight it out in peace?ā Calvin asked.Ā
āAlright, alright,ā Amelia said. āHow can we help?ā
Konrad responded immediately. āYou and Rupert can focus on the frosting. Considering Rupertās whole thing, itāll take both of you. I need black, gray, and gold frosting, with black being in that bowl-ā He pointed to a large bowl of frosting. ā-and gold and gray in those. I also need you all to cut out those stencils I made and follow that guide I put on the table for how to make frosting stars I can use.ā
Amelia and Rupert exchanged a glance. Calvin snorted. āI told you weāre experienced. Well, Konrad is. Heās the baker.ā
Rupert teleported over to the bowls, grabbed them, and teleported back next to Amelia. Amelia was already beginning to puzzle over the stencils. āMan, Konrad, I knew you were a baker, but I didnāt know you were thisā¦ā
āDisciplined?ā Konrad snorted. āSomeone had to learn how to cook between the two of us.ā
āYou enjoy cooking!ā Calvin protested. āHeās saying that to make me look bad.ā
āItās funnier that way,ā Konrad said. āNow get to work. This is gonna be a long night if we donāt get a move on, since I want to decorate it tonight as well. Amelia, you have the frozen pizzas?ā
āTheyāre in the fridge,ā Amelia replied. āReady for tonight!ā
āSick,ā Calvin said.
Rupert nudged Amelia, or rather, he tried, but instead she felt a soft wave of static pass through her shoulder. āHey, can you grab my phone from my pocket? I think Charles texted me, but I canāt reallyā¦ā
āYeah.ā Amelia grabbed it, put in Rupertās password (they were far past the point of pretending they didnāt know each otherās phone passwords), and checked the text. āCharles wants to know if he and his partners need to make the cake,ā she said.Ā
āTell him this,ā Rupert said.Ā
...
āAnd what did he say?ā Henry asked.Ā
Charles took a deep breath. āāNever in the entirety of my miserable life will I ever be around any of you godforsaken heathens whenever you cook. Me and Amelia and the twins are making the cakeā.āĀ
He leaned over Charlesās shoulder and whistled. āDang, he really did say that. Well, at least we donāt have to do that.ā
āI mean,ā Ellie said, walking into the living room with several boxes floating around her, āwe didnāt exactly do a great job with the last cake we made, all the way back in⦠Triple Threat. Maybe itās for the best.ā
āWe did great!ā Charles protested.Ā
Henry grimaced. He didnāt remember much of the cake, what with those murky events taking backstage to the circumstances since, but he didnāt think it was a good cake. Poor Galeforce.Ā Ā
It was the day before the birthday party, and Triple Threat was setting up. The moon filtered through their apartment window, the apartment lit up by lamps and, soon, string lights. The living room was a bit of a wreck with all the decorations and supplies, but soon itād look magical.Ā
āDecorations?ā Henry asked.
āCheck,ā Ellie said, setting the boxes down.Ā
āFood?ā
āCheck, check,ā Charles said.Ā
āThatāll be done tomorrow morning. Alcohol?ā
āCheck. You got the good stuff?ā Ellie asked.
Henry produced an old bottle of the Toppatsā favorite liquor, a positively ancient wine. His favorite quirk of resetting: the bottle, safe in his inventory, was duplicated as the timeline was restored to a prior state. Heād nicked at least seven more of the bottles across the timelines once heād realized, and stolen a good deal more valuable things- more alcohol, gems, art, safe in the knowledge itād be the perfect crime.Ā
Ellie grinned. āExcited for that one!ā
āOkay. Nothing else we need before the party, right?ā Henry confirmed.Ā
āRupertās got the, uh, the cake,ā Charles said. āWeāve got our presents; the others have theirs. Invitations were sent out.ā
āReally, they just needed to message the CCC agent,ā Ellie commented.Ā
Right. It was them, Amelia and the twins, Rupert of course, and the CCC agent theyād become fond of- Diana Fairview. As long as she wasnāt trying to murder him, Henry begrudgingly had conceded to allow her under their roof.
Henry shook his head. He was past that. He was past all of this. He didnāt need to make any worse of an impression to Dave than he already had by merely existing the past few years. I wonder if he even wants me to be there, he thought dimly.Ā
āLetās get started,ā he said instead. He headed for the lights, grabbing a string and heading for the corner. Hm. Maybe he shouldāve had Charles, that giant, do this instead. Too late. He summoned a stepladder and clambered up onto it.
Charles, meanwhile, was grabbing gold and black streamers. Ellie was focused on the photo wall. A photo wall of Dave and others was⦠difficult, considering Daveās condition meant he could hardly be photographed without major distortion, but the three of them had agreed Dave would get a kick out of seeing all the horrible blurry photos of himself and his friends.Ā
āThose look like youād find them on really bad creepypasta websites,ā Henry said.Ā
Ellie snorted. āThey do, donāt they? You guys still havenāt shown me what those are.ā
āMan, really? Amelia hasnāt dragged you down that rabbit hole?ā Charles asked.Ā
āNot yet. I think thatās our next plan, though,ā Ellie said. āShe wants to make one with Dave, I think.ā
Henry snorted loudly. āOh, heād be mortified. Itād be fun, though.ā
āWeāve got a homegrown psychic to make the spooky effects, and I think Calvinās good at editing,ā Charles said. āAnd- ooh, Henryās got a bunch of random stuff in his inventory! Man, that sounds fun, actually.ā
āWe can talk about it at the party,ā Henry said. The more he thought about it, the more he thought that might be nice. Without all the excitement of the timelines, even doing dangerous missions, heād felt a little restless. A project would be nice. Though interacting with Dave that much made him feel a stab of guilt.Ā
āThe party,ā Charles said wistfully. āMan, Iām excited for this!ā he continued cheerfully. āI mean, we havenāt done something like this inā¦ā
āSince the anniversary of the timelines back in the failed Triple Threat,ā Ellie finished. āBut it was just us back then.ā A beat. āI think I like this better.ā She snorted. āIām sure Henry disagrees.ā
āWhat? No,ā Henry said, perhaps more sharply than he should have for the joking tone. āI love everyone thatās coming. I mean, really, itās Dave thatā¦ā He trailed off.Ā
āWhat?ā Ellie asked.Ā
āDoes Dave⦠even want to see me?ā Henry said slowly.
āWhat do you mean?ā Charles asked.Ā
Did he have to bring this up? Why had he said anything? He swallowed past the lump in his throat. He strung the lights precisely, focusing on them rather than the awful uncertainty swirling in his gut. āI mean, I know weāve spent time with Dave since everything happened, but I did do all of that. I kind of made his life a living hell.ā
āDonāt flatter yourself. You made all of our lives a living hell,ā Ellie replied, but it held no malice. āAnd he wouldnāt hang out with you if he didnāt want to.ā
āWould he? You know how guilty he is,ā Henry huffed. He stuck his tongue out as he reached for a particularly difficult corner, balancing on the couch armrest. He made a noise of thanks as Charles grabbed his hips to steady him.Ā
āI also know heās forgiven you,ā Charles said. āIf Rupert found it in his cold, dead heart to give you a shot, then Dave definitely did.ā
āRupert tolerates me,ā Henry shot back. āHe was probably being nice.ā
āRupert? Being nice? On purpose?ā Ellie snorted.Ā
Henry smiled waveringly, but she had a point. Rupert rarely lied to spare feelings, and he doubted Rupert would say anything to spare Henry, specifically.
āStop,ā Charles complained as Ellie snickered. Henry rolled his eyes, but huffed a laugh. āIām being serious,ā Charles said, the joking dropping out of his voice. āRupertās forgiven you. Daveās forgiven you.ā
Henry paused. āYouāre sure heās not just humoring me?ā
āIām sure, dude.ā There was an audible eye roll in Ellieās voice. āAlso, if Dave was that uncomfortable with you, why would Rupert get us to help with this?ā
āBecause weāre the only people who can summon things for free? And weād pay for everything out of guilt?ā Henry said, pulling out a lightbulb. He grinned at Ellieās sigh. āI know, I know. Just paranoid, I suppose.ā
āWhatās new?ā Charles said. āBesides, you are nice to Dave, and heās got low standards.ā
āLet me have this!ā Henry smacked Charles dramatically as Charles pulled him down from the couch.Ā
The rest of the night passed in idle, excited chatter as they finished decorating.Ā
ā¦
āYou know we could just teleport,ā Dave said.Ā
āIsnāt it nice to drive sometimes?ā Rupert asked.Ā
āI mean, yeah⦠I just didnāt know if, um, you wanted people to see you like this.ā
Rupert shrugged, oddly blase. āI donāt mind. Itās night on a weekend; not many people will be out and sober enough to notice anything off, anyway.ā
They were on the way to Triple Threatās apartment for a game night. Rupert had been oddly insistent about walking and taking the powers fully tonight. Risky for someone like themselves, but it was a nice night. The windows on the car were rolled down. Dave drove, a rarity after gaining his powers. The warm night air filled Daveās lungs, a promise of warmer days to come in the summer air of July. He took a deep breath and reflected on how nice it was to not have the powers for once.Ā
Dave wondered what the occasion was. They were, ultimately, his powers; he didnāt mind having them the majority of the time. They came with their share of troubles, yes, but he felt bad enough when Rupert took them fully, nevermind the half-and-half he and Rupert ended up doing a majority of the time. He didnāt want to foist his troubles on Rupert of all people. Not after all that Rupert had done for him. It felt wrong to leave him now for a normal life, though he theoretically could. Well, as normal as he could now.Ā
Heād never really gone back to a normal life. He wasnāt sure he wanted to. He wasnāt a soldier proper, but all of his friends were in the government, and nevertheless he felt much more useful in the government. There was a lot one could do when one could teleport and teleport others, as well as mess with electronic communication and other such oddities heād discovered as time passed.Ā
Who knew where life would take him, really. He wasnāt sure. He felt along for the ride, just as he did tonight, with a secretive Rupert and night full of promise.
What he did know was that he was spending time with friends, playing games, and having a hopefully good time with people he enjoyed. That was enough.
Soon, they pulled into the parking lot of Triple Threatās City apartment. As Dave drove, he tilted his head. āIs that Ameliaās truck? I didnāt know she was coming tonight.ā
āWhat? Oh, no,ā Rupert said hurriedly. āToo dark. Must be a similar one.ā
āHm.ā Rupertās color-distorted vision was probably playing tricks on him, but Dave conceded he had known Amelia far longer.Ā
They pulled into a parking spot. They clambered out, and Dave waited for Rupert as Rupert almost frenetically rummaged around in the back of their car. Dave raised an eyebrow as Rupert finally emerged, looking disgruntled. āWhatās wrong?ā he asked as they headed for the stairs.
āNothing. Nothing. Just- thought Iād brought a game that Ellie wanted to play, and I didnāt.ā He sighed.Ā
āWeāll just bring it next time? Itās not a big deal.ā Dave shook his head a little at Rupertās expression. āWhatās gotten into you? Youāve been on edge all night.ā
āWhat? No. No, I havenāt,ā Rupert said immediately.Ā
Dave snorted and rolled his eyes. He paused in front of the door- right, they were third floor. āYou absolutely have. Cāmon, Rupert, Iāll take the powers back-ā
āNo,ā Rupert replied. āReally. Really! Iām fine.ā Rupert gave Dave a strained grin when Dave turned back to look at him doubtfully.Ā
Dave raised an eyebrow. āOkay?ā He stopped in front of Triple Threatās door and knocked. Whatever weirdness Rupert was into, heād just have to figure it out after the game night.Ā
āComing!ā called Charlesās voice. He opened the door, looking a little frazzled and a little breathless. āHey, buddy, how are you doing?ā
āIām good!ā Dave replied cheerfully as Charles stepped aside. He trotted inside, dimly noticing that their apartment looked somewhat different. āRupert said he forgot some game that Ellie wanted to-ā
āSURPRISE!ā shouted several voices at once. Dave jumped, and if heād had the powers, he would have teleported out of shock.Ā
Amelia, Calvin, Konrad, and even Diana were also in the living room, as well as Ellie and Henry. It was decorated with a bunch of party decorations that were black, gray, gold, and other colors, as well as a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! sign strung up across the living room wall.Ā
āWha-ā Dave froze in terror.
āHappy birthday!ā Charles chirped from behind Dave.Ā
āItās not- what?ā Despite himself, the shock was melting into affectionate curiosity, and he let out a surprised laugh. āWhatās going on?ā
āWeāre throwing you a birthday party!ā Henry said, spreading his arms dramatically. āIf you couldnāt tell, my friend.ā
āBut itās not my birthday!ā Dave protested as Charles pushed him further inside into the living room. Inside, he couldnāt help but grin as Amelia gave him a big hug, followed by a bashful one from Henry and an eager one from Charles. Finally, he felt the static-filled hand of Rupert land on his shoulder.Ā
āWe didnāt know your actual birthday, so, uh, we used the date you came to the government camp,ā Rupert said.Ā
A beat. āWhich feels kind of insensitive now that Iām thinking about it,ā Diana said, shifting past the others to squeeze Daveās arm. Theyād even gotten Diana? What with how busy she was now? Warmth flooded through Daveās chest. Something prickled at his eyes.
Dave giggled, spilling out into laughter. āMy birthday isnāt for another six months, guysā¦āĀ
āOh,ā said a chorus that included Rupert dejectedly.Ā
āOne in three hundred sixty-five chance?ā Amelia said. āNot bad that we got it wrong.ā
Dave wiped his eyes, still smiling. āBut thank you. This is really sweet of you all. I canāt believe- for me?ā He glanced at the twins. āEven you two?ā
āI made the cake,ā said Konrad proudly. Dave laughed in delight.Ā
āThank you, I-ā Dave laughed again, this time wetly. āI donāt think- anybodyās done anything so nice for me.ā
āYou say the most comforting things, dude,ā Ellie said wryly.Ā
āAlright, alright, enough dwelling on the past!ā Charles said brightly, throwing an arm around Dave. āLetās get this party started! Who wants drinks?āĀ
āMe,ā Dave said immediately. He couldnāt get a proper drink often, but to the strange surprise of most of his friends, he did enjoy a good drink or two. Just because his head felt like static all the time didnāt mean he couldnāt enjoy a good buzz.Ā
āOne for the birthday boy- a beer if Iām remembering correctly,ā Charles said. āA beer for the CCC agent and the worse twin, wine for my two thieves, cider for Amelia and the better one-ā
āWhat! Why I am the worse twin?!ā Calvin demanded. āCharles!ā He followed a snickering Charles into the kitchen, where they quickly returned with drinks.Ā
āWhatās a good party without presents?ā Amelia asked. āI say we do that first. Then we can get smashing drunk and not have to worry about trying to do any of that.ā
āPresents?ā Dave asked, surprised. āI mean- you guys have already done so much for me-ā
āOf course we got you presents!ā Ellie called. āThatās what people do, Dave. I know youāre a weirdo like the rest of us, but I promise itās normal.ā
āIāll take your word for it,ā Dave joked back. He glanced at Diana. āI canāt believe you made it!ā
Diana looked tired, but nonetheless she smiled. āItās been hectic, but⦠yeah. Of course I would. Youāre my friend, Dave.ā
āAlright, everyone,ā Henry said authoritatively, āgather around Dave. Iāll be back.ā He turned and vanished into a different room. At that, they all began to coalesce in the living room around the couch.Ā
Charles plopped next to Rupert. He whispered something to Rupert, who flushed as well and nudged him sharply. Ellie, on Rupertās other side, whispered something into Rupertās other ear, and this time he seemed like he was trying to decide between throttling her or Charles. Diana tentatively sat next to Amelia, the twins flanking them. Dave headed to sit next to Charles, but several voices rose in protest.Ā
āAh, Dave, my friend, youāre the star of the show! You have to be on the couch,ā Henry said as he trotted back in. He stopped in front of the table, and then, out of nowhere, produced a cloth. He made a dramatic flourish, and then as if from underneath the fabric, several presents appeared. Accompanied by polite clapping, Henry gave a little bow before sitting on Charlesās other side.Ā
āAw, you guys!ā Dave said, a little dizzied by the fact that it seemed everyone had gotten him something. He felt like a kid again, in those foggy memories, sitting on the couch with a flush on his cheeks as everyone gazed at him. āYou guys didnāt have to get me all of thisā¦ā
āI wanna see some action!ā Ellie called. āGo on, Dave, mineās the envelope.āĀ
āYou first? How humble,ā Henry snarked. He squawked when Ellie, with a flick of her wrist, wrested his wineglass from his hand. āWait, thatās the good stuff- El, my love, I take it back-!āĀ
Dave giggled at the pairās antics, but obliged Ellie, grabbing a long stuffed envelope. Curiously he popped open the flap and pulled out a large record.Ā
āWhatās-?ā he asked as he peered at the record.Ā
Ellie was holding the wineglass at the ceiling, much to a fuming but silent Henryās chagrin. āItās a record of a song I wrote for you,ā she said easily. āI know you canāt use tech that much-ā
āYou- wrote me a song?ā Dave squeaked, heart hammering in surprise. āReally?āĀ
āYeah!ā Ellie said. āItās called Gray River. Uh, an instrumental on the violin.ā
āYeah, she didnāt get to serenade you with her beautiful voice,ā Amelia said, snorting.Ā
āI canāt wait to listen to it!ā Dave said brightly. He hesitated, wondering how in the world he was going to play a vinyl, when Charles cleared his throat.Ā
āMy, uh, my present goes along with hers,ā Charles said. āThe actual thing is already at your apartment, Dave, but grab the other thing- yeah, that one.āĀ
Dave pulled out a long cardboard box. Inside were several more vinyls, many of which had albums of bands that he realized were his favorites. As he stared, surprised and delighted, Charles spoke. āYeah, we found an old phonograph, and so itās all set up back at your place. Man, sneaking that thing in was pretty hard. We didnāt, uh, we didnāt think of using a hammerspace until afterward.ā
āPfff, I love it!ā Dave laughed. āThatās so exciting! They actually work with my powersā¦ā
āThatās why we got it,ā Charles said proudly.Ā
Dave grabbed one at random next. āOh, thatās mine,ā Calvin said. āMine and Konradās goes together.ā
āOh, cool!ā Dave unwrapped the box, which was large and long, wrapped in colorful wrapping paper. He revealed a Monopoly board game that, instead of having properties, had famous game show hosts from across the decades. Included in it was another small box.Ā
āI donāt really know you super well, Dave, but I hope to change that and invite you to more board game nights,ā Calvin said. āI donāt know if the others told you, but I get everyone a special edition of Monopoly. I got Charles one thatās all helicopter types, I got Amelia one with supernatural creatures⦠and, well, I think itās fitting yours is TV show hosts. Weāll play it at the next game night!ā
āThatās very sweet of you, Calvin,ā Dave said. His face hurt from smiling. āAnd this?ā He held up the prize from the other box, a little silver TV token.Ā
āA Monopoly token!ā Konrad chimed in. āI had it custom made.ā
āOh, wow! Itās so pretty, Konrad,ā Dave said, studying the little figurine. āThank you both so much!āĀ
Next was an envelope. āThatās mine,ā Amelia said, a grin already spreading onto her face as Dave ripped it open.
āA subscription to- oh, you didnāt!ā DaveĀ said, beaming.
āYeah, I did! Sheās got a whole new series coming out, too, so we should both be up-to-date!ā Amelia chirped.Ā
At the othersā puzzled looks, Ellie said, āAmeliaās got me and Dave hooked on an author who does true supernatural stories- or, well, she says theyāre true. We try to pick them apart and see if theyāre fake or anomalies.ā
āOh, thatās great,ā Dave said brightly. Heād been reading a lot since everything had ended, and truth be told, his and Ameliaās discussions over these novels and short stories were some of the highlights of his day.Ā
āThereās something else in there,ā Amelia said, and this time she was brimming with delight. Diana watched her sideways, sipping a beer curiously.
Dave pulled out a small sheet of initially hidden paper. āHm⦠Letās see- āDave, this is an IOU from Amelia to go ghost hunting at a haunted spot of your choice. Iām completely confident that somehow weāll finally either almost get killed or get killed for real, whichever happens first.āā Dave was already grinning when he finished it. āOh, Iām gonna find such a haunted place.ā
Rupert made a beep of alarm, and so did Ellie. āJust tell me where youāre going first so I can come bail you out,ā Ellie said. She glanced at Diana. āOr the resident CCC agent so they can exorcise the place or something.ā
Diana nodded sagely. āWeāve got some techniques. Uh, Dave- mineās the little one, and youāre probably gonna need some explanation.āĀ
āOh, alright!ā When Dave unwrapped this one, he was surprised to find a phone staring back at him. He blinked. Itād been so long since he used a phone. āUm, Di? Iām flattered, and this is really expensive, but I canāt reallyā¦ā
Diana was already speaking. āI know. I know. Rupert, could you give him the powers back for a second?ā
Rupert reached forward and pressed a hand to Daveās knee. Dave felt static flow back into him. As it did, he saw Konrad mutter to Calvin, āIām never gonna get used to that.āĀ
āAre you sure this wonāt damage anything?ā Dave asked with concern as the familiar buzzing filled his mind.Ā
āTry using it,ā Diana said eagerly. āAnd we can tweak things if need be, since this is version one, but yāknow.ā
Dave hesitantly clicked the phone on. To his surprise, it didnāt phase through his hand. Neither did it glitch immediately or brick at his touch, at the energy flowing through it. Daveās eyes brightened as he began to mess around on it with more and more confidence.
āHow did you-ā he began, then let out a startled laugh. Even in slight grayscale, Dianaās beam was striking.
āItās pretty neat technology,ā Diana said brightly. āWe started- oh, sorry. You probably donāt want to hear about it right now.ā
āLater,ā Dave promised.Ā
āDo tell, indeed,ā Henry said, eyes shining with interest. āIād be interested to hear what you people managed to do with anomalies such as those.āĀ
Diana seemed a little nervous pinned under Henryās diamond gaze, but she quickly straightened. āYeah, I can do that! Itās been one of my favorite pet projects. I havenāt gotten to do many of them since⦠yeah.ā
āSeems like weāve just got Henry left,ā Rupert said, taking back the power. He looked bashful. āI, uh⦠forgot your present at home, Dave.ā
Dave snorted. āOh, thatās fine. This is already so much- I donāt need anything else!āĀ
Especially from Rupert, he thought privately. Rupertās already done so much for me⦠And besides, I donāt need much from Rupert. He really didnāt. All heād like would be to stay around Rupert for a while longer. A lot longer, if he was lucky.Ā
āSaving the best for last, I see,ā Henry preened. His grin only widened at the groans of everyone around the room.
His was another large box. When Dave opened it, he was pleasantly surprised by a bunch of clothes- dark, comfortable clothes in his size, as well as with flourishes and in styles heād always found himself staring at but never bold enough to try himself.Ā
āClothes for you,ā Henry explained. āAnd what I didnāt put is that Iām planning a day where we go shopping for more. On my dime, of course. Youāve mentioned wanting to expand your wardrobe.ā
āI have. I canāt believe you remembered!ā
āIām sure all of that will look great on you,ā Henry said, grinning.Ā
Dave sighed, sitting back and gazing warmly at the gifts arrayed before him. It was more than heād ever gotten before, and more than heād ever expected. āI⦠guys, thank you. Thank you so much. This is- this is really special. Thank you all again.āĀ
āAw, Dave, of course,ā Charles said.Ā
āAnytime,ā Diana said. āLet me know if the phone has any trouble. Weāre having fun with it. Iām kinda sad to see it go, honestly.ā
āOh, Iām sure Iāll find some. For you,ā Dave said. Diana grinned.
āWell,ā Konrad said, clapping his hands. āWho wants cake?āĀ
āME!ā shouted Charles and Amelia at the same time. Henry snorted and shoved at Charles.
āYouāve got the biggest sweet tooth,ā he said.
āSays the chocolate snob,ā Charles snarked back.
āCake sounds great! I wanna see what Konrad made,ā Dave said.
At that, they all began to rise. Before he could make it too far, however, he felt a hand on his arm. When he turned, it was Rupert, strangely not meeting his eyes. āBefore you head in there, can we talk? Privately?ā
Dave blinked, a little concerned. āYeah. Is something wrong?ā
āNo, no,ā Rupert said mysteriously. āJust- follow me.ā
āYeah, alright.ā Dave glanced back at the others, all of whom were chatting and getting up, and followed Rupert into a side hallway. From here he could hear the din of chatter. Just the sound warmed him. Only a few years ago, he could never imagine having so many people to celebrate with, nevermind celebrating a fake birthday after a distorted few years. What a wild world.Ā
He stopped in front of Rupert. Rupert looked strangely nervous. āSo what did you have to tell me that was so secret?ā Dave asked playfully.
Rupertās face was an interesting shade of bright red. When had that happened? What did he have to be embarrassed about? Funny, really, with how bright his colors were; it was stark-clear on his overlaid face. āUm,ā he said. āWell, you know I forgot your present.ā
āOh, youāre worried about that?ā Dave laughed. āCome on, Ru. Itās fine. Itās at home, anyway-ā
āBut thatās not what I wanted to ask you,ā Rupert interrupted. He spoke uncharacteristically fast, also with an uncharacteristic avoidance of Daveās gaze. Not that Dave could tell where he was looking, what with his eyes being multicolored bars like a failing TV screen, but still. Dave could tell. āI wanted to ask you something else. Something kind of- And itās fine if you say no, just fine; I donāt want to make it weird, or our friendship weird, which is why Iāve been waiting to say anything. That is to say, if you donāt want to be friends after this, I get it, but even still, I hope we can be, because I really care about you-ā
Now, Dave knew he wasnāt the most observant person. But as Rupert spoke, voice beeping in anxiety, barreling toward some esoteric conclusion, he felt perfect clarity enter his mind.Ā
A slow, fond smile spread across his face.Ā
āRupert,ā he said, reaching up.
āAll this is to say,ā Rupert said, distracted. āI was wondering if maybe you wanted to go out someti- mmph!ā
On later reflection, he was surprised that he was able to meet Rupertās lips on the firstĀ time. He was even more surprised that the kiss was able to go on for much longer than he anticipated. Static flooded his mind, but a mix of the familiar and the pleasant kind, as Rupertās hands found Daveās face and Dave strained on his tip-toes to keep going.
Eventually he broke away. He smiled and opened his eyes, one of which was now filled with static.Ā
āYeah,ā Dave said softly, gazing up into Rupertās half-colorful eyes. āYeah, Iād like to go out a lot.ā
āCool,ā Rupert squeaked. His intense eyes had softened, from familiar hard green to the cool line that the powers distorted them to. Both were beautiful, in Daveās opinion.Ā
āHow about we go eat some cake and tell the others?ā Dave asked.Ā
āSounds great,ā Rupert said, āas long as we do that again later tonight.ā
āPffff, after the party,ā Dave giggled. āWe have to go tell everyone the news- unless-?ā
āNo, people will wanna hear it,ā Rupert said. Almost shyly, as the two of them turned to head out into the living room again, already full of chatter and drinks, Rupert grabbed Daveās hand. With their powers mingling, neither hand phased.Ā
Then, a familiar whisper darted through the back of Daveās head.Ā
The Narrator.Ā
Dave froze.Ā
It hadnāt spoken to him since everything had ended. And yetā¦
āRupert,ā Dave asked slowly. āWere people taking bets on us getting together tonight?ā
Rupert froze. He wouldnāt meet Daveās gaze. āUm. I just realized I have to-ā
Rupert teleported. Dave let out a shocked laugh, and then realized when he went to teleport, Rupert had drained the power from him, leaving him with nothing but a blip of static in his mind. āNo fair!ā he called, striding out into the throng of his friends.
His friends.Ā
As Dave told the others the good news, as he chided them for the bets, and as they shared delicious cake and drinksā¦
Woah people liked the Toppat King post! Charles design have at ye then
Iām gonna yap about his design n story stuff but it might get long so itāll all be under the cut
Okay so! The basic gist of Toppat King is just that Henry and Ellie are in charge and doing Toppat things up in space. But uh. The problem is theyāre too competent and they kind of end up. Destroying the government? But theyāre not interested in ruling the world so everyone is just kinda on their own now whoopsieeees
what remains of the government is a rebel group lead by Galeforce (there are other ārebel groupsā but his is the main one) focused on stopping the Toppats from doing any more damage to the world then theyāve already done
and hereās where we get to Charles: member of said rebellion!
heās become more of a field agent lately due to. lack of helicopters :( and since a lot of the rebellion is just random people that they recruited, Charles is actually one of the more qualified members ācause he actually has government training
I tried to put him in as little green as possible, since the Toppats target government agents and wearing army green is basically having a fricking target on your back
which is ironic since he quite literally has a fricking target on his back!!!
he found his jacket in an old military base and had someone (Galeforce) alter it to give the government symbol wings! which then unintentionally became the symbol for the rebellion so yeah he just has a target on his back. he likes the jacket tho so it stays
those metal squares all over his design are dog tags heās collected. he collects dog tags. did I forget to mention that? yeah he collects dog tags.
it started because he met a Toppat who also collected dog tags from the government people heād killed! Charles got so mad he killed the guy and took the dog tags back <3 so that the memory of his fellow soldiers donāt have to be seen as a trophy <3
he keeps them on his person (and keeps collecting them) for a different reason that Iām probably gonna draw later so Iām not gonna say why :D feel free to speculate lmao
heās become known as a big thorn in the Toppatās side because he keeps leading very risky but very effective operations against the Toppats and coming out basically unscathed! almost⦠suspiciously unscathed⦠anyways heās really annoying
I donāt think thereās much else about his design. everything else I just added for fun lmao :3
uhhh charlesā best friends in the rebellion are Rupert and Amelia āTurtleā Esteban :D more about them later because I am working on drawings for them
But yeah! Charles was very fun to draw! This AU has been jangling around in my head for a bit but I havenāt had the time to draw anything :/ well guess Iām doing it now lmao

Alright, time to show off my insanity of thinking about the specifics and details of this game.
These are my thoughts as I was replaying through Breaking the Bank. (Part 1 out of ??)
Heads up: just know that my writings will reference some things pertaining to my headcanons and worldbuilding, especially Fail text person. Because they're my ultimate blorbo. š
Here's the text transcribed below (also the parenthesis and small text is extra thoughts as I'm writing this post):
"Observations & Musings (4/9/26)
Why would there be a money vault in Arizona? (By the way, this is assuming that the location of the Bank in somewhere in Arizona as well)
BtB: upon hovering one of the options, the text turns red. Proceed Next. Aggressor Reference. (You won't get this part yet, hopefully soon enough when I show this part of my made up lore for the Next button. Yes, even the buttons has specific ass lore.) Fail's presence implied? Neat!
Why the fuck is there a gas main under Arizona dessert? Colonialization remmants? (That was the first thing that I thought of. Or just something else.)
Golden-ish fail text?
Why the Henry has explosives with him??
Teleporter, emergent technology. (I took note of the word "emergent" because I could use it for the worldbuilding of this game. Interesting word there, I'm keeping an eye on you. š)
How advance technology is within the thsc universe? That destructive lasers exist that cut through concrete. (Yeah, I am very curious about the tech there.)
"FAIL" [title text is] colored blood red.
Fail references to video games and such could hint when this timeframe takes place. (Even though I already have an established year for this game.) And how they were influence[d] by that time's culture.
Why the hell does Henry has access to a wrecking ball?? (Note: this kind of question will probably get old soon. Maybe instead of asking why, just accept that he has these thing in possession and think about its implications) (I was getting tired of the WTH writing of Henry's things he carried)
Huh, two voices after Henry got caught are from the outside. Only two guards? Or there's a couple of staff in the vault?
Golden ticket: story progression. Silver ticket: fails & bios. Red ticket: misc achievement."
This is my Breaking the Bank writings! And holy shit, this is just the prolongue. Oh dear. Wish me luck.
What are Rupert and Amelia like in the Toppat King AU? Or Reginald and RHM? (whoever you'd like to talk about :) )
I just finished Ameliaās design today, actually, so Iāll yap about her! Rupert and the others will be mentioned later, Iām cooking up stuff for them >:)
for now: Introducing Amelia āTurtleā Esteban, member of the rebellion, former government special ops agent, and bomb expert!
design/story stuff under the cut (itās gonna get long again whoopsies)
okay so Ameliaās design is one Iām not particularly proud of, color-wise. colors are hard guys. hopefully I will never have to color anything ever again <ā wishful idiot
nevertheless, Amelia herself I love to the very depths of my core, so I put a lot of story into her design!
Amelia wasnāt working under Galeforce when the Government collapsed, so her and her teammates (john āfrogā pilksin and gordon āeelā banks) were kinda stranded out in the field for a bit. they did their best to get back to a safe zone, but they got caught in the middle of a scuffle with the Toppats :(
there was a bomb set to go off and kill the government soldiers that were there, so the Amelia was going to disable it while the other two helped out the soldiers.
unfortunately! there was a sniper! that Amelia didnāt see because she was too busy disarming the bomb! and it shot at her :(
luckily, Frog jumped in and pushed her away :D
unluckily, he got shot instead and the bomb detonated because Amelia ran out of time. and she got blown up :(
the last thing she could remember before passing out was Eel dragging her to a hiding spot. and then she passed out :(
when she woke up everyone was dead! so! not great for Amelia :(
eventually she was able to find a rebel base (galeforcesā actually! he set up FAST after the government dissolved) and she got medical attention so she didnāt die! yippee! she did lose an arm though. being blown up will do that to you
sheās friends with Charles, Rupert, and a couple other rebels! so her lifeās not too bad all things considering
okay on to design notes!!!
I didnāt know what the heck I was going for her and I still donāt! she doesnāt either! I think she stole all her outfits from abandoned government bases. probably found Charlesā jacket for him. it does leave her looking very green and very much like a target (and also very patchworky) but itās the best she can do for now
it is important to note that she used to have a special ops uniform. she does not have that anymore. due to it being blown up. anyways Iām saying she doesnāt have anything that she used to own lmao
she does have Frogās headband and Eelās glasses, which she keeps on her in memory. aināt that sweet
she didnāt use to wear armor/much extra padding (despite working with LIVE BOMBS) but ever since being blown up sheās decided that maybe wearing armor is a good idea. so she does that
the entire outfit is pretty bulky, so she usually just wears that jacket and any shirt she can find. this is pretty common for the rebellion (they have enough resources to spare for one casual outfit and one āgoing out to do rebel stuffā outfit). Charles is an outlier because heās always combat ready (also he. keeps forgetting to change out of his combat clothes. whoops)
she isnāt called out into the field a lot, so she stays behind and makes a whole lotta bombs for the rebellion. which is why sheās not called out in the field. they need bombs okay
I think thatās about it for her? well, thereās more, but itās details Iāll be talking about later so youāll have to wait :3
Thank you for the ask!! man I love talking about this au

I decided to join the new THSC whiteboard this time around so have a few doodles I made on there today.
Here's my sticksona, Princess Irina Angel greeting.
A small doodle of my CCC OC, Vivian partially transformed. Best not to touch that hand because it's probably not going to end well for you...
Lastly, a doodle of Russell's new design I made some time ago. Also, @diverging-lives love your comment. I never actually thought anyone would find Russell's design fine but I'm glad you think so.
It has been a while since I drew my style of Henry but here he is!
By the way, you can find the currently active thsc whiteboard fox here.
Something that's been bothering me with how his time powers are usually depicted is that it feels... too convenient. It treated as akin to a video game mechanic where he can just retry as much as he wishes without consequences (mostly).
My solution to this is making his inhereted time powers to be more psychologically corrosive the more he uses it. It compounds after subsequent retries, resets, and pausing.
Which... now that I think about it, it's actually more fucked up and has insidious weight to it. I wonder what happens if Henry pushes this power to its absolute limit?
Not much has changed except for removing the green and orange button to focus more on the primary colored (not pun intented) buttons.
To those with keen eyes then you may recognize that the blue and red buttons belong in the fail/ending screens of the game, along with the orange and green buttons.
Well, the circle yellow button is made up and I need a simple shape that pairs well with the arrows.

So. I created a crossover three months ago and uhm, here it is:
What's so funny about these two is that my establish personalities for them Do NOT match with the archetypes of Derlord and Avery.
There is NO way in hell that Rupert is the "smart" and clever guy. And there is NO way in hell Dave is a PvP god.
Ramblings below! š
Mind you, in order for this crossover to work, Rupert and Dave never met/knew of each other until the events of sfawtde. Rupert is still an officer (also never enlisted in the army) while Dave is already a security guard. The latter never went to the police department for reasons I have yet to figure out. And these two are immersed in the internet culture of Minecraft since its early days.
Rupert got his smarts because he absolutely sucked at PvP (not sorry Rups) and he has to learn to be strategic and clever to win. Plus he got some niche knowledge about Minecraft mechanics as he was watching PvP tutorials and tips & tricks, which spiraled into looking up more and more of these mechanics later on. I like to think that he gained an appreciation for puzzle solving because of this and does them with a pen and paper (yes, manual solving) as theraputic activity.
For Dave's case, it's more interesting. He got into PvP as a way to unwind from the long boring patroling and guarding on a part of the musuem. In my headcanon, he struggles with finding meaning and fulfillment for a long time. He wants something that challenges him personally and mentally. He is not a thrill seeker, he just wants to break away from monotonous rountine. While he isn't the most confident man in the world but might as well run towards head on.
He finds the challenge of PvPing to be comforting and predictable. He doesn't care about winning, only the certainy of winning and losing. At least in this environment, something finally happens.
I just realized both of their playing styles are from very different angles. Rupert is more so a byproduct trying to slot him into Derlord's role while maintaining his personality. Dave devolved into a pyschological study of his pysche and internal struggles.
And like, I am just here in disbelief that I managed to make this crossover work.
