I know I don’t post here anymore, but... My brother got me this Cameo from Micky Dolenz for Christmas / my birthday, which was a week and a half ago. Evidently after he booked it, “Micky” (probably meaning his team) reached out to him asking him several questions to make it more personalized (some of which my brother winged the answer to, evidently), and the man actually got a birthday cupcake out for the video. I just really admire the personality he put into making this special for the recipient and needed to share
EDIT: I also feel compelled to share that my brother was so happy with this gift calling it “one of the best he’s ever given” because he anticipated a 20 second long generic video and was so happy it got personalized and told me afterwards that he was thrilled because Micky’s Cameo profile specifically stated that he would not sing but that “he, of his own accord, chose to sing two things”. It wasn’t just special for the people receiving the message, it was special for anyone who bought it for a loved one, too.
I was going through all of my old tags to actually remember what they were, and found all of the old series/compilations that I used to put together. Putting up a series of links to those here for posterity because they all took way more time than I’m willing to admit.
Series:
Running gag series
Nez concert banter transcripts
Spotting the Stand-Ins
Transcripts of deleted YouTube videos
50 for the 50th posts (a ridiculously unfinished undertaking)
Miscellaneous Original Content:
(Mostly) Comprehensive lists and masterposts
Reviews and essays
Videos I’ve made
Blu Ray Screenshots and Transcripts
The Best of Mike and Micky
I had a hard time deciding on how to format this post. On one hand I wanted to do a video compilation, because there are so many quick instances that showcase the aspects of their dynamic that I love, but on the other hand, I wanted to include entire scenes and give explanations for why I like them. So I decided to include both.
Here is a link to a supercut video that I made of some of the shorter television moments that I personally love between the two (they’re in pretty random order), and under the “read more” are unintentionally lengthy reviews of some of my favorite interactions between them on the show. (I apologize for any rambling–I wrote the bulk of this under the influence of far too much caffeine.)
And here is a bonus photoset I made awhile ago of “Mike, Micky, a complete lack of personal space” because that seems like an important inclusion.

@ditty-diego, it is very important that you know when I tumbled headfirst into this fandom about 7 months ago, I watched that Best of Mike and Micky video at least once or twice a day for weeks. I showed it to my friends. It just makes me very happy. Now I’m going to read all the things in this post.
Sorry for the late response, but I'm not active on tumblr currently, so just saw this comment. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! I had a lot of fun creating all this content, and I hope you continue to. (It's been a few years, but I was also a "tumbled head first into the fandom" person)
Funny how you can get blocked fron Nez's facebook without having ever been one of his fb friends or even interacted with one of his posts outside of occasionally "liking" statuses. Never even gave as much as a comment on any status, which would have never have been negative anyway. Curious on what led to a block since I've only ever followed Nez/VR3d and never actually commented on any post they've had. Not trying to drag anyone, but genuinely upset I'm blocked fron Nez's fb. Happened about a month ago. No longer care about the drama free integrity of this blog, posting now because I'm a barely active blog and pretty much no influence in the community

My College Days With Peter Tork!
by STEVE POPE Peter’s Best Friend in College
(from FLIP, October 1967)
In September, 1959, Peter H. Thorkelson entered Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. Steve Pope was a member of that same freshman class, and was graduated from Carleton in June, 1963. Peter, of course, never graduated, having already decided that music meant more to him than anything else in the world. But, during the two years that Peter did attend Carleton, his best friend on campus was “Poper” – Steve Pope, who shared all of Peter’s happy and unhappy times. In an exclusive series beginning in this issue of FLIP, Steve will take you through these exciting years of Peter’s life.
I’d just moved into Carleton’s freshman dorm, when I saw Peter for the first time. Wearing short hair, looking very puckish and plucking on one of his oldest banjos, there he was – in one of his most familiar poses. I was to see Peter often like this. It seemed as if that banjo never left him!
We weren’t introduced yet, but a couple of days later I found out that we were in the same math class together and that Peter’s room was just down the hall from mine. Soon, I was introduced to Peter H. Thorkelson, beginning a friendship with Peter which lasted even long after he eventually left Carleton.
Funny about that name. You’d never think that there could be two Peter Thorkelsons in any one place at the same time. But there were actually two Peter Thorkselsons in my freshman class. The only difference was their middle initials and the fact that Peter pronounced the first part of his name “TORK” while the other pronounced his “Thork.” Peter usually used his middle initial to keep their identities separate.

I’m sure it’s irrational, but I’m still so paranoid about M&M seats being double booked after the reschedule.

Scanned from The Monkees Scrapbook
At that time, The Establishment were not too interested in us (the youth). They were too busy prosecuting wars. Johnson said, ‘Ike had his war and I had mine.’ (Vietnam) was war we had no business being in. We went about our lives cheerfully and ‘The Monkees’ ‘ reflected that. We were the only show in its day with no adult or single adult figure. No dad. No uncle. No wise older adviser. This correctly reflected the times. The Monkees said to all these kids who were bewildered and didn’t know what was going on in their lives that it was OK to be in charge of your own life and be cheerful about it and to not get bent out of shape that nobody was paying attention

“So we reached a compromise – we made jokes. Whenever some clever-clogs reporter tried to stir up trouble by backing us into some ideological corner, we would respond with an arsenal of witty repartee.
REPORTER: So what do you think of the war? MICKY: What war? REPORTER: Do you guys smoke pot? MIKE: No, we barbecue it slowly for two hours. REPORTER: Do you believe in free love? DAVY: No, I always charge something. REPORTER: What do you think about Nixon’s foreign policy? PETER: It’s just more bourgeoisie establishment crap that… ALL: PETER! ”
(from “I’m a Believer: My Life of Monkees, Music, and Madness” by Micky Dolenz)
I love my fans. By that, I mean all of you young people out there who, with your fantastic energy and devotion, elevated us Monkees from relative obscurity to a position where we’re able to communicate with millions of people – not just to give our music and our acting talent, but to give our innermost thoughts. I hope that somehow I have been able to repay you for all that you have done for me.
