How to make your wardrobe complete
Lets face it, sometimes we scramble all over our closets to find an outfit because âwe donât have anything to wear sometimesâ. This is not true at all. What is true is that we have plenty to wear; we just donât have many combinations to wear our clothes in.
Our biggest problems we have as humans in general is our inability to think ahead sometimes. Instead of buying items that will give longevity to our stock, we purchase âone-timeâ wears that we will never touch after it has been worn. This is a travesty!
One needs to shop smart and avoid costly wardrobe malfunctions. Here are a few tips:
1. Never ever buy an item that you already have in your closet.
This is most expensive blunder that you could make. Allocating funds to other things would be more feasible than buying up another pair of 511s that you already have. You can wear the same jeans over again and no one will ever notice! (I do it myself). When shopping for clothes, act as if youâre buying groceries. Unless youâre a extreme couponer, donât waste cash on items that you donât need.
2. Always shop with a purpose in mind.
Keep that imaginary grocery list in your head. If you have a grey snapback donât buy another, but buy a black one instead. Or if you alreadyhave one tone of white shoes, donât buy anymore! A little dirt wonât hurt.
3. Know your limits.
Most of you have tips 1 & 2 down. But a lot of us donât know when to stop shopping. As the late Benjamin Franklin spoke in âPoor Richardâs Almanacâ, âIt is a pity for the poor to ape the rich; for the frog to swell to equal the ox. Large boats can venture more, but the little ship should keep near shore.â Most of us are not rich or highly privileged. Weâre most working class hustlers on the come-up. We cannot afford to âballâ like Diddy! What we can do is make excellent investments in our clothing and make them last us.
4. When you buy cheap, expect cheap material.
Somethings are quality steals, like the stuff here on District105, but others are just not worth a purchase. Ever notice in stores like H&M that all the items fade in a matter of weeks after washing? The materials look recycled? Thereâs nothing wrong with recycled clothing; the clothes should âlookâ recycled. When buying cheap stuff, just be aware of the consequences that follow.
5. Know thy style.
Know you. Know what look youâre trying to achieve. Unless its a t-shirt, try it on first. Imagine yourself wearing it first. Then, look in the mirror after trying it on. Finally, if it looks good, make the purchase.

The object of second-hand shopping is to get those gems that you canât get at retail prices. Whether youâre a vintage junkie or a hipster, District105 has your style in mind. We have something for everyone!
