Where In The World Is Elena Hiding Now?

Babette squeezed her eyes shut and hugged her friend, trying to angle her face to not get mascara on Elena's top. It was funny; Babette was usually the one leaving. But she had built a life here, a bit by accident, and now Elena had to go and build hers. Hopefully her purpose would make it a smoother ride.

"I can't wait to visit." She grinned, "I know you're going to do great."

Elena giggled and hugged Babette right back, as she wasn't sure when she'd see her again next. All she knew was that she would, that she refused not to.

She loved Babette so much, like a sister, it was a shame they couldn't stay together for the time being.

"And I can't wait to show you Avalor. Your confidence, Isabela's, the Madrigals as a whole...it's everything to me. I'm going to make Avalor wonderful again, you'll love it when you see it."

She had finally made it. Three flights and a 24 hour stay in some airport in France; Joann was here. It didn't matte how long it took because her only goal was just to make it. With her only personal belongings in her back pack then hung off her back Joanna stepped off the train and let the feeling of actual freedom it her face one. It was a surreal moment; this was a new life for her. There was no reason to be afraid at least yet. Father probably didn't even realize she was gone...it took him days sometimes to get off the couch let alone be sober enough to acknowledge her. Taking in the details of this new town Joanna was practically floating. Headphones...stolen from the Melbourne Apple Store, in and a Four Year Strong song blasting at highest volume she nodded her head to the beat and lip synced her way down the sidewalk. As soon as her foot hit the cobble stone road she felt her Doc Marten roll and she was knocked off balance. Graceful attempt to catch herself Joanna did not fall but her airpod did. Click...Clack...Click...Clack...it was like slow motion watching the small white airpod bounce across the stones and towards the sewer drain. Panicked Joanna dove to the ground trying to catch it. The airpod fell...Peeking through the grate of the drain she could see it just on a cement ledge...just out of of reach. Shoving her arm through the grate Joanna was not going to give up...she could not live without music..and she certainly could not afford a replacement! Frantically looking up she saw someone walking by...still laying on on the floor she yelled; "Aye! Can you help me out! I need this grate pulled up! Immediately!!"

Elena was just a few days from leaving Swynlake to [redacted location, spoilers] and to say she was expecting to be asked to help pull up a grate...would be a lie.

"I mean...usually you need to call public works or something, they're often bolted down." She said. "But. Maybe it's not?"

Long distance friendships were not a new concept- Babette had many friends in different cities in France, her childhood friends from Colmar, families she'd gotten seriously close to and kept in touch with. Saying that first real goodbye, though, it didn't get easier.

"Oh, stop it you." She said, bottom lip already wobbling a bit. It was true for her, too, Babette had been so lonely when she'd gotten here. She sniffed loudly and sipped her wine, laughing at herself, "we helped eachother be brave, I think. I'm just glad all that food didn't end up going to waste." She grinned, "I don't think I can send you dinner all the way in Avalor, though..."

Elena leaned forward and hugged her tight.

Babette chuckled and shook her head, "oui, that makes sense for you." She could picture Elena well enough in her youth, causing chaos despite her status. Or perhaps in spite of it, sometimes. "Still, I find it stressful enough when people become the topic of gossip in those silly dreams, I couldn't put up with it for long."

"I suppose it will be nice to have an easy way to know what you are up to, even when you are too busy to call." Babette teased.

Her chest began to feel so incredibly heavy.

"I'm really going to miss you. You're the first friend I made here. I didn't feel so alone and afraid."
