the new season has been out since mid-April and we are already halfway through it. i know the WTNV team has been posting about it on their social channels for months leading up to it. i dont think we are doing anything differently, promotion-wise, than we did with the first three seasons which seemed to find their audience much more quickly.

personally i find it rather frustating given the amount of work we put into this show, but im not really sure what to do about it. i know part of it is down to the fact that audiofiction is a far more competitive field than it used to be, and there's also so much noise and chaos in the world these days that its hard to find anything, and so many terrible problems that fiction feels less important.

as a gen z fan who loves music and sharing photos with good music this would genuinely improve my life 😭 pls consider….

first of all i'm sorry to the many people who have asked this question over the last decade

the prodution of these two seasons occured during a fairly chaotic time in my life both in terms of physically moving from one side of the country to the other, and also some significant changes in my equipment and recording methods, and due to the way i composed the music the soundtracks for these seasons are still in somewhat fragmented form as parts of several-versions-old ableton sessions on an old laptop and frankly my life has been too much of a mess these last several years to sort that out. which is also why there haven't been so many disparition releases lately other than more spiritual/cathartic work like In A Walled City.

THAT SAID i have my shit a lot more together now AND we just launched a new season/sequel project so it is a good time to go through and and put it into some kind of releasable form, which is also something i've been meaning to do with a lot of the more specialized music i wrote for night vale (that is, music written for specifiic wtnv episodes that doesn't come from my existing albums)

this is a picture of a stack of bricks. it’s located at a construction site in new jersey.

if you do a reverse image search, you will find this image currently being posted on multiple social media networks along with the claim that violent protests in LA were planned by some nefarious conspiracy and that these pallets of bricks were dropped off at strategic locations near protests in order to fuel said violence.

often, when a picture like this is posted, the conversation is immediately flooded with commentators who readily accept the image as hard proof of what is “really happening” even though it is simply a photo of some bricks with no stated location or context (as for how i know the bricks are in NJ, see here: https://leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2025/06/fact-check-photo-of-bricks-was-not-taken-in-los-angeles-during-june-2025-protests.html)

there’s no AI trickery here, these are real bricks, and the people sharing the image don’t have to do any work to “prove” that these bricks have anything to do with the protest, because a pre-existing crowd of accounts is already there to support the narrative and shout down contradictions.

this is of course just a drop in the bucket. the misinformation war is huge, and pales in comparison to the physical violence that victims of ICE and other state forces are going through today, but all of these elements work together.

i am hearing from people in other parts of the country that LA is “on fire” (it isn’t), that local authorities have told law enforcement to stand down and join the protests (they haven’t), that there is widespread looting and rioting (there isn’t). there is zero justification for the national guard or marines being sent here, that is entirely a political stunt; albeit a disgusting and dangerous one. i have also seen people sharing videos of soccer fans and claiming they are protestors, sharing pics from other protests in 2020 or even in other countries, and claiming that its current footage of LA

seven emperors gather on a stolen plain

feet soft on the marble tile

they wriggle and squirm

their life of breaking gigantic boulders, crushing mountains, and leveling towers has filled their silk robes with sand and salt

so they itch

and as the decades spun, they looked upon their work with pride

and their spreadsheets filled with tally after tally of iron and fire

yet even as the weight of the numbers pinned them beneath their silver robes and porcelein halls, they itched still.

but their feet had dug lines in the stone. they dared not cross for fear of tumbling into each other.

now the winds rise and flow through the gaps in the mountains they destroyed.

the sand and salt swirls in their eyes

they stumble and lean

and now there’s a real possibility

of them all falling down
