I'm no expert and relatively baby as well but I've done a cord cutting before so I'll tell you what I know/learned (also, sorry in advance for the novel...)

I don't know what kind of spell you had in mind as there are a lot of ways to do it but I'm assuming you were thinking of the one where you tie two candles together and watch them burn since it's the most well known and most accessible to you with the materials you mentioned. The bare minimum that you need for this are a needle (or anything sharp to write on the candle), two candles and some kind of rope (no ribbons.) If possible, I'd reccommend doing it with her in the room, not separately, as this will make the spell more potent for her. She needs to watch the bridge between them burn more than you do, and having her around will also be a good safety measure in case things go wrong. This could also give you the opportunity to do it at her place so that you won't have to worry about your parents (although ig it depends on her parents as well...) The best and most important safety measure you can put in place is fire safety: The rope you use should be relatively thin, the plate (or wherever you place your candles) should be fire proof and there should be no herbs between the candles in case the rope falls in between (if you do decide to use herbs, but they're not mandatory.) Also keep a glass of water or towel nearby to throw on the spell if things go wrong. The main way to ensure things go as intended when it comes to the spell itself is to ensure that you speak the "language of the universe" if you will. This means only using affirmative statements in the present tense like "the bridge between X and Y is burning" rather than "X and Y will no longer be connected." It's also important to know what your friend means by "cord cutting" as precisely as possible, which is another reason why having her with you for the process can be useful (if in person isn't an option, video chat will do as well.) Also, you can just straight up mention "with harm done to none" or something along those lines to ensure the safety of everyone involved. In terms of protection, what I like to do is have a separate candle dedicated to protection that I keep around throughout the spell. I light it and tell it to absorb any danger that may be coming my way before spending a few minutes meditating with it to ground myself. If you don't want to use a third candle, visualizing a protective circle while you ground yourself/ves before the spell is a no material way to have some protection. If you have more specific fears, I'd also suggest looking into banishment.

"Finding yourself" is not really how it works. You aren't a ten-dollar bill in last winter's coat pocket. You are also not lost. Your true self is right there, buried under cultural conditioning, other people's opinions, and inaccurate conclusions you drew as a kid that became your beliefs about who you are. "Finding yourself" is actually returning to yourself. An unlearning, an excavation, a remembering who you were before the world got its hands on you.
