The Mischaracterization of Byakuya Togami.
Togami exists as a concept — not really a person. He can have likes and dislikes, of course, but they’re all influenced by his environment of opulence. I don’t particularly think he would be impartial to things of a certain style, but something I believe alot of people get wrong is they assume Byakuya has any sort of identity outside of being a Togami. He likes classic antique style things because that’s what he was surrounded with. He doesn’t secretly have a preference for other things, because why would he? He exists to be a Togami.
It would take an exceptional amount of development post canon to allow him to learn to be a person. I think of it as the difference between him and someone like Sonia Nevermind, in which she suppresses her personhood in order to be a good princess. She has a longing to be a person, she wants to be seen as equal to others. She exists both as a princess and a person, but it’s the person she wants to see flourish. Byakuya, however, doesn’t possess this at all. He lacks “personhood” outside of being an heir. There is no facade. He is the way he is because he’s an heir, and he knows he’s above everyone else. He isn’t secretly self conscious. He doesn’t secretly have any insecurities. The fact that he is above others is a fact of life.
He doesn’t need to inflate his achievements like Celeste does, because he says, he just does. He doesn’t need to blabber on about how good he is, because he just proves it. He doesn’t have a facade. He’s not hiding anything the way Celeste, Kyoko and Sonia are. He simply *is* that cold. His identity cannot be separated from being a Togami, and his likeness will always be that of an heir.
