wow, what a mansion!

i hate albert wesker. 18+ to follow

i know we don't play resident evil for, like, hard-hitting realism or anything, but i thought it was common knowledge that gold star gays were a lot rarer in the late 80s/early 90s because heterosexuality was the norm and the expectation, and even being suspected of homosexuality could have devasting consequences for one's personal and professional life. it wasn't unheard of for gay people to have entire marriages and children. i feel like wesker in particular is a character who is deeply invested in projecting an image of strength, power, and control, all of which are rooted in normative masculinity, so i'm not surprised that he would also be invested in performing heterosexuality, regardless of what his actual sexuality might have been. so yeah he probably had at least some experience with the opposite sex. doesn't mean he can't be gay.

this leads me to wonder how wesker could have gotten chris/jill to the cell without immediately showing his hand. i always assumed that he escorted them down to the lab at gunpoint while the player character was investigating the dining room, but maybe he knocked them out from behind? maybe jill was able to put two and two together, while chris suspected what happened but didn't want to believe it. or maybe chris is just kinda dumb like that. idk.

capcom seems to be intent on taking the safest route possible when it comes to resident evil titles, and i think they'll shy away from anything even slightly risky or weird or off-putting to their core audience of largely straight men. i hope to be proven wrong, though.
