Putting this as a reply so that I can pin both this and the winner's announcement to the top of the blog

And that's a wrap on the Discworld book bracket! Despite some... questionable sweeps, we managed to have a good time; our highest traffic poll, Night Watch vs Going Postal, got over three thousand votes, far far far more traffic than I ever expected any of these polls to get. And despite my own opinions, I maintain what I said in the very first announcement for this poll: some of us are right, and some of us are right with numbers to back us up. (But Going Postal is still the best Discworld book. Sorry/not sorry.)

So, what are we looking at for the future of this blog?

I have already talked about this back in rounds one and two, but I do have more ideas for Discworld themed polls, and will be keeping this blog active by running them. I will also be reblogging other Discworld polls over here; if you have a Discworld poll blog or there is a Discworld related thing as a poll option, feel free to send it to me. I'd like this blog to be a place people interested in voting on Discworld related polls can hang out and do just that.

As far as the immediate future of the blog is concerned, I am in the middle of running a Cats poll over @jellicle-brawl (we're in the middle of round two right now) and will (hopefully) begin @crossovernonshipstournament soon, and once I get non-ship going steady I want to start an evil woman bracket. (Which I will announce over here when it's ready.) So I can't say for sure how long it will be before season two starts. That said, with all probability season two will be Death Cameos, because those are fun and the least likely of my ideas to have a Watch sweep.

As far as the books bracket itself goes, I am thinking I might at some future date run it again, but with a different format and the entire bibliography of Discworld, just to see how a different format (and an established following) changes the results. But that will be much later down the line, so don't worry about it right now- just something I'm pondering!

But Havelock Vetinari - of course everyone also loves Havelock Vetinari - the thing about this character is that "ruler" is a central part of who he is and his role in the story

Every scene he's in is absolute gold and before he even had a name he WAS The Patrician

He cosplays at being a stereotypical Evil Scheming ruler, dresses all in black and has a goatee, sends people to the "scorpion pit", etc... But in reality he is just an extremely effective public servant, he wants the city to proper and the citizens to have good lives and by god will he get there. Partly by terrifying his political rivals with his "evil tyrant"-sona

When her country was drifting towards civil war, she infiltrated the organization responsible to find out more and spent 2 years rising through the ranks (she was 14 when she started, 16 when she stopped). When she was eventually found out, she recruited a group of pirates to help her take down the leader instead. Jiang Cheng:

he was raised as a heir from childhood, but for the times of peace. So when the war started and his home was razed to the ground, nobody the fuck expected this teenager (late teens but still) whose Clan was almost completely decimated to be able to rally people and bring them under his banner and become a major force in the war. How did he convince people to follow him? Who knows! Not our POV character so not us either, but the fact is that he did. He managed to make people believe in him and join his cause when he had nothing to his name, not even the territories that should've been his, as they had to be retaken from the enemy first. And retake them he did!
