“I love you.”
Toi qui, comme un coup de couteau, Dans mon coeur plaintif es entrée; Toi qui, forte comme un troupeau De démons, vins, folle et parée,
He was in the study perusing the books of poetry he had amassed over the years. There had been many translations of Baudelaire’s The Vampire, but today Irial gravitated towards the original French. He had just finished the first stanza when the familiar voice caught his attention, the words spoken softly in a way that not very many of the Dark Court would be privy to hearing.
Only a fool would doubt that they loved each other. Over the centuries their love had taken different forms, had even taken them to different faery courts and cities, but it was undeniable in its fierceness. It did not always need to be spoken; it was always felt.Â
It was not the first time Niall had uttered those three words, but they never failed to elicit the best cocktail of emotions from the embodiment of Chaos. A cocktail that he knew the other could taste, courtesy of being the Dark King. The fact made Irial only far too happy, closing the book as he gave his beloved all his attention. “Shall I go and fetch the ring now? Attempt to arrange for a wedding in a heartbeat?”Â

This. Is the kind of message I want to get back to. Hi. :)
"Iri?" Niall whispered in surprise when he saw the other fae. He'd been away for so long than Niall had almost given up hope that he'd ever come home. (Sorry, had to do it!)
Sometimes faery business was far too complicated, even Discord had a hard time. And that was saying a lot considering he was Chaos, and he thrived in that which he embodied. Still, the Dark Court didn’t need a new war and so Irial had stayed away until he was sure he had a better grip of his priorities. Priority, rather. The person standing in front of him. “Missed me, Gancanagh?” he asked, apologetic and yet teasing, as per usual. (Nirial time again yay!)
“I don’t have to constantly be having sex to keep my court strong!” He scoffed. “And I certainly don’t need Chela helping me get laid. They thrive on their fighting and the parties. They’re not weak.” He stepped back, crossing his arms stubbornly over his chest, “And if you were going to be so concerned then you should have come home sooner!”
Irial already expected the response, but it didn't stop him from flinching. Niall wasn't just someone being mad anymore; he was the Dark King, and the shadows in the room shivered in response to his emotions. "Please, Niall. You know better than to say things like that." Irial tried to keep his tone level; he didn't really want to fight so soon after he came back, but it was too hard to resist raising his own voice. "I would have come home sooner if I could, love. You should know that," he whispered slowly. "You should know I didn't choose to be apart from you just because I wanted to."

Niall bit his bottom lip, looking down guilty. He knew he /could/ have. He was just too busy, between keeping peace between the courts, looking for Irial, and managing the court, he’d forgotten about his needs. Add that to the fact that he tried very hard not to even think about being with anyone else and he’d gone months without. He looked back up and shrugged, “I’ve been busy.” He tried to sound nonchalant, but he knew it came out apologetic.
The look he gave Niall showed plainly that he wasn't amused with the response. "You're the Dark King, Niall. You're not too busy to f---" Then again, Irial could understand why Niall would not have done it. Consciously or not, he was probably thinking about Irial and his return. But what if he didn't return? Irial didn't want Niall--and the entire court--to be too weak to defend themselves. Surely Niall should have thought better. But it wasn't even just that that made Irial frown deeply. "I will need to talk to Chela about this. She should have been helping you. Especially when you’re being stubborn."

Niall blinked slowly, surprised by how foggy his mind had gotten from just a chaste kiss. He frowned inwardly, mentally counting how long it had been since he’d been kissed. Then it struck him. He’d been celibate and distant from any romantic or sexual touch for months now! That wasn’t exactly good for a gancanagh to do. He looked up at Irial, hoping the other didn’t notice how long it took him to respond, “they’re more chaotic that normal recently. More fights and parties. They’ve been trying to distract me from your absence, I suspect.”
Niall would be wishing for the impossible if he thought Irial wouldn't notice, and a splitsecond of a frown changes Discord's expression before he's overcome by worry--and maybe a hint of anger. "Niall," his voice comes in a low whisper. Adding the fact that the court had been more chaotic, it seemed obvious they were trying to compensate for what their king was stubbornly refusing to do. "What have you been doing while I was way?" Or should he say, what has Niall not been doing? "You know you could have... You know what you need, Niall."

Niall nodded mutely, pressing his face in Irial’s throat. The familiar position definitely made it possible to feel less stressed and really did make it easier to pretend Irial had never left. He took a shaky breath and pulled back, clearing his throat, “I think we can do that.”
He didn't need to taste the other's emotions to know the signs that Niall was feeling less stressed, and that made Irial happy. He moved to kiss Niall's cheek, lips forming a smirk as his hands came up to hold Niall's face in place before he kissed him full on the mouth. "Tell me what I missed. The children?" Irial might not be king anymore, but he still cared for the Dark Court and its king--enough to want to know if he can help and if his absence made things harder somehow. But he trusted Niall to hold the fort on his own; he had proven time and time again how capable he was. It was more him just wanting Niall to talk more, to be honest.

We need every kind of thread!
The angsty ones….
The fluffy ones….
The crack ones….
All of them!
Check, check, and check! Absolutely everything! I never get tired of writing these two.

“You know damn well I did!” Niall scoffed, moving closer and pulling Irial into his arms. “you took off without word. I was_ I was terrified something had happened.” His voice dropped off, knowing his fears of Irial losing control were shared by the older fey. “No one could find you.”
Irial chuckled softly as Niall pulled him closer, and he quickly wraps his arms around his king, relaxing into the embrace. "Forgive me, love. It was...necessary." For Irial, at least. He didn't want to comment on the fact that he chose not to be found, and he knew just how to do that. It might upset Niall, and Irial had already upset him enough with his leaving. "But I'm here now. Shall we forget I ever left?"
