My favorite sandwich ever. Croque MaDaammmmnnn. Too bad I'm too lazy to make it often but when I do, whoa nelly do I enjoy it. The sandwich is stuffed with layers of ham and cheese, then heavily buttered on both sides and toasted until it reaches a perfect crunchy buttered brown. Then it's slathered with a cheesy, creamy béchamel sauce, slammed with a huge pile of shredded Gruyere cheese, and placed in the oven until it all melts down into this bubbling, melted, cheesy, glorious sandwich. And finally, the coup de grace, a sunny side up egg placed ever so gently right on top. Its most definitely a knife and fork sandwich. This yolk oozing, cheese melting, béchamel dripping sandwich is so rich and indulgent that after eating it your eyes will roll back into your head before they promptly close for a food coma nap.
