Daisy was holding her breath, trying not to move too much — trying not to disturb the baby she was holding in her arms. “Dylan Dina Danvers, that’s some alliteration,” Daisy said with a half-smile. She was happy for Alex, though. Having a child was something Alex had wanted for a long time, and Daisy knew that she’d — this would never be her. Daisy carefully held Dylan, very aware of the baby’s head. “Yeah,” Daisy murmured, looking up at Alex and nodding her head. “I’m good.”

“Yeah” Alex nodded with a small chuckle. “Her middle name is inspired by her godmother’s name and I couldn’t risk Dinah’s ego growing too big by making that her first name” she joked, smiling as she looked at her daughter. Her daughter, it was still a little hard to believe. Alex stepped back when Daisy said she was good, resting her hands on the bed and leaning against it as she watched Daisy with Dylan.

(✉️ ➡️ @directordxnvers ): happy Mother’s Day! Little Dylan doesn’t know how to shop (yet) so I dropped off some flowers on your doorstep. Don’t worry. They’re fake so you can’t kill them!

“Pretty sure SHIELD would never allow that. Gotta be something in my contract that says I can’t jump ship to another agency.” And Daisy, despite having been burned by SHIELD, she still had friends there. She still… felt pulled towards them, despite it all. “You want me on diaper duty? Only if you want wall art made of poop. Because that’s what will happen.”

“That sounds... weird, then again it’s Fury we’re talking about so who knows” Alex replied with a shrug. She’d made the offer at least and there wasn’t much else she could do. “I’ll show you how to do it without that happening, or maybe wait till she’s older.”

“If you need help affording it…” Danny let the offer hang, but he didn’t push one way or the other. He’d learned through his experience of buying Colleen’s building back when they were near strangers that sometimes, people didn’t exactly want you to make offers like that.

“No, absoloutley not” Alex responded instantly, she knew if she didn’t make her answer clear he might end up actually buying her a bigger place. “I appreciate the offer, it’s sweet of you but it’s way too much, so thank you, but no” besides it’d probably be a few years before she needed a bigger place anyway.

There were some mornings where no amount of time in the shower furiously scrubbing at his skin was going to take out the smell of spirits and wine. This was one of these mornings, and Tony supposed it was asking too much for a spy not to notice it when he arrived at her door. He was slightly surprised that Alex neglected to comment – she’d never tried to spare his feelings before - but it was obvious she was exhausted, overwhelmed, and perhaps most of all, looking for a friend.

“Oh yeah, I’m peachy,” Tony said as he walked in. “Divorced, but I’m sure you heard about that – or maybe annulled is the better word.” In fact, he was pretty sure a term didn’t exist for wanting to be married but that never being written down legally. He instead focused on stepping into the room, walking over to the crib to look down on the sleeping baby. “Hello there,” he whispered quietly, careful not to wake her, slipping his sunglasses off. He looked at Alex for permission, then lowered his hand into the crib, gently touching it against Dylan’s. She shifted, wrapping her whole hand around his finger. “Makes everything worth it, huh?” he asked, looking back up at Alex with a quickly developing, entirely genuine smile.

“You sure? Because you look like shit” Alex replied, she probably didn’t look much better but that was for entirely different reasons. She wasn’t judging though, after her med school years she didn’t exactly have any ground to stand on. She was maybe a little concerned though, then he mentioned the divorce/annulment and Alex remembered how she’d been after her engagement to Maggie ended. “I haven’t actually” even if she had right now she was too tried to remember it. 

“Do you want to talk about it?” She asked as he walked over to Dylan’s crib, giving him a small nod when he looked over at her. “I hope you know she won’t let go off your finger for a while now” she commented as she continued drinking her coffee. “Yeah” she said softly as she looked at her daughter “yeah, it does.”

“Okay,” Danny said, quiet to avoid waking the baby. She looked so peaceful in her cot, tiny and still, and Danny was in awe, just a little. His eyes snapped up to meet Alex’s at the offer, wide and uncertain. “Really? I don’t…” He trailed off, looking down again. “I don’t think I know how. I’ve never held a baby before, you know? Do you think, uh… Do you think you could teach me?”

“I can show you” Alex nodded with a smile. “It’s easier than you’d think” she said as she slowly and carefully picked up Dylan, making sure to support her head as she got her daughter settled in her arms. “See, not too hard right?” Alex told him, smiling as she looked at Dylan.

Dinah hadn’t been there when Lian was born and when she’d met Roy’s girl she wasn’t nearly as tiny as the sleeping bundle in Alex’s arms, but she still remembered how terrified she’d been of holding someone so small and fragile for the first time. Seeing Alex holding Dylan though, Dinah felt like she could do anything – almost anything. She could do everything except the one thing that Alex Danvers had just accomplished. But she would be one hell of a godmother for the baby in Alex’s arms. “Can I?” she asked, uncharacteristically hesitant for a moment.

“Of course” Alex replied, smiling as she stepped closer to Dinah “you’re her godmother after all.” She carefully handed Dylan over to Dinah, making sure her head was supported. “You got her?” She asked before she slowly removed her own arms.

“All right, smartass,” Simon huffed, rolling his eyes good naturedly. He was reminded of the English teacher he’d had in high school who wouldn’t let you use the bathroom if you phrased the question incorrectly. (It’d only lasted until Simon threatened to piss in his empty water bottle. He’d been sent to the principal and his dad had been his usual shade of disappointed, but Simon had thought it was funny, anyway.) 

He nodded as Alex continued pulling the spiderwebs out of her hair, shifting his weight just to keep from standing still. “I could search it ten times faster,” he sighed dramatically. “And I wouldn’t be as bored if I did.” They wanted to be thorough, he got that. The only problem was that Simon needed action. Without it, his focus slipped more often than not. “Your guys are slow, Danvers.”

"That’s rich coming from you don’t you think” Alex commented teasingly. She could probably make a long list about all the times Simon was being a smartass, she might even need a whole book for it. Though, not that she would ever admit to that, it was one of the reasons she liked him.

“They’re not slow, they’re efficient while also being thorough” which was important in this line of work. She understood he was bored, so was Alex but she had to be certain they didn’t miss anything important. “They should be done any minute now anyway.”

“Yeah — yeah, I think so.” Daisy didn’t know why she was so nervous, she had been around kids before, but they were all talking age — easy to connect to. Babies were… different. A lot more fragile than anything she’d held before. (And could she do that? Could she be gentle?) Sitting down, Daisy fidgeted a bit more and then looked at Alex. “It’s Dylan, right? That’s what you said in the chat.”

“Okay” Alex nodded, picking up Dylan while Daisy went to sit down. “Yeah, Dylan Dina Danvers” she smiled as she gently placed her daughter in Daisy’s arms. “Just make sure to support her head” she said, adjusting one of her arms a little so it was in the right position to support Dylan’s head. “You good?” She asked, not moving away until Daisy confirmed she was.
