DE PRONTO Y DE NOCHE ( SUDDENLY ONE NIGHT) Dir: Arantxa Echevarria /Spain /2013 /20 mins “De Noche Y De Pronto “( Suddenly One Night ) a short directed in 2013 by Arantxa Echevarria has been especially selected by #directedbywomenspain as part of Scalarama strand #directedbywomen . This is the first time the film will be screened in Liverpool and the director has agreed for us to show it for this very especial occasion. This awarded winning short was filmed entirely during the night time with only two actors. Echevarria’s major challenge was to combined the strength of two great performances with rapid camera movements to reveal how women experience fear. Echevarria wants to show how “feminine fear”, fear to the real things in life, is missing from the horror genre that is mainly dominated by men. As she declared in a recent interview ” I think that not enough women direct horror, and I think that we need to make all sorts of films in all kinds of genres. And whenever women direct small, socially aware films, intimate films, people say It’s a Women’s Film. Ugh. I hate female stereotypes. I’m very feminist, and I know all that we can offer.”
