            “maybe not but i think trashing the phone on the other end of that call would have a better way to go about showing them how you feel ‘cause now you’ve got a broken phone,” she replied, though based off the other’s look of pure frustration ― danielle could see that it didn’t matter. “but i have been there and done that before, which is why you’d do better to break something else.” before it became a habit and left nothing but broken phones and other too expensive items to replace quickly with how much her temper flared up and was gone again. “that ― might not be a bad idea. there’s definitely some places that could use a remodeling around town.”

“it definitely isn’t a sustainable method of dealing with things no matter how satisfying it felt.. i will admit that.” quinn responds, she’s still angry but she feels a little less like tearing everything in the rooms to shreds. she eyes the seat next to the girl deciding that calming down is probably better than tearing through the town like a total maniac. “that seat taken.” she asks. “it seems like you have some valid advice to give out and that i should probably listen before i choke someone out with my bare hands.”

So it turns out stupidity does take many forms.  ❛ Who cares about what her fucking name was or what that rapist used to call her, Jesus.❜  Frankly, her name change was the least of Rory’s problems. When he first met the girl her life was not exactly a fairytale. Caleb offered her an escape from the abuse she was getting from the very man who was supposed to protect her and you’d think that her sister would appreciate the gesture. But no, she’s here, bitch face and all, spiting ridiculous insults his way.  ❛ I’m not trying to intimidate you and you don’t need my help to come off as a bitch, Quinn. You’re doing a fine job all on your own. ❜ Another drink and he clears his throat.  ❛ And she was happy before, right? You know, it’s funny, that you come all the way here to try and save Aurora from the terrible monster she married when you didn’t lift a finger to protect her from the one who raised her. Where was this hero complex then? If you’re feeling guilty because you failed her all her life and you want to make up for it now, then that is your problem. We  don’t need your toxic bullshit around.  The truth is I was there for her, and you weren’t. ❜

“it used to matter to alex. getting called alex was such a victory for her, in a way that you could never understand. because you don’t know shit about our family. or about who she is.” quinn snaps, her temper hitting the surface in a way that she’s uncomfortable with. confrontation used to make her skin itch, she used to cower like her mother. but nobody was going to make her feel like that again, least of all someone who didn’t even know her. he brings up their father, and how quinn failed her sister and she wants to hit him. she wants to tear his fucking face off, because how dare he. how dare he talk about russell. her hands are tight around the champagne bottle as she takes another drink. that’s always the solution right? angry, take a drink. scared, take a drink. sad, take a drink. she’ll probably never escape the pattern now. she thinks of giving him a grand speech, of listing all the things she tried to do to protect alex. to lament her own struggles, but she’s looking at him and all she sees is another one of russells slimey friends laughing in her face. another man in the long line of men who’ve made the falwell girls lives shit. “think what you want about the past, i really don’t give a shit. but i’m going to find out why you’re as shit as every other man in my life and why my sister is acting weird. and then we’re going to get as far away from this shithole as possible, and soon i won’t even remember your name. toodles,” she turns on her heel ready to get as hammered as possible in the hope that his words won’t come bubbling towards the surface later tonight.

She moves closer only to grab the champagne bottle and snatching it. As if he’s supposed to feel insulted by this sudden change of heart? She proceeds to open it and chug it, washing away all traces of his lips ever touching hers.  ❛ Right, Alex. ❜ What a stupid name.  ❛ The name your father gave her. She doesn’t like to be called that so the least you can do is respect her wishes, don’t you think? ❜ He sighs, taking a drink of his own glass and giving out a chuckle. It is true that Rory has changed significantly ever since they got together and that  the most logical conclusion would be to hold him responsible for this change. Whether this change is for the better or for the worst is a matter of perspective.  ❛ Why can’t you just let your sister be happy, Quinn? Are you really that jealous of her? It’s pathetic. ❜

“if you knew anything about my sister you’d know that my father never called her alex, that’s what she picked for herself because he called her lexie.” quinn responds in a tone that’s almost lazy, though her eyes narrow at his statement. he accuses her of being jealous as if quinn would ever want to move to this slime covered graveyard of a town and marry knock off ted bundy. it’s almost sad that he thinks that highly of himself. he reminds her of russell in that way, trying to pit her against the people in her life. it used to work before when she was weaker, when she still compared herself to alex. she almost want to say ‘newsflash discount zac efron what you have here ain’t shit’ but she doesn’t, she just drinks more champagne and then says. “you know when you make statements like that, you don’t make me feel crazy or pathetic. you make me think that i’m doing the right thing. you can try to intimidate me, and make me out to be some bitch who wants to ruin my sisters happiness. and while i might be a bitch, i don’t think that alex is happy here at all. and i’m going to make her see that, and then you my friend will be history.”

          “That’s one way to deal with your problems,” Danielle commented as she watched the other throw and smash their phone against a wall. It was something that she could relate to but wouldn’t be able to afford a new phone. So she stuck to other ways to express her frustrations that were no limited to hitting someone else or drinking too much to not give a shit anymore. “Next time make sure it’s someone else’s phone though. It’s always better to trash their things rather than your own.” Not always, but sometimes. 

quinn looks up with a sharp gaze. “trashing someone elses phone wouldn’t have the desired effect of cutting me off clearly and violently from the phonecall that i just ended.” she responds cooly. “though i do feel as if i could go on a further rampage and destroy this whole garbage can of a town just so that i could feel something other than utter loathing for the place.” it’s as sincere of a response as she can give at the moment, she does truly wish that she could destroy grimmbrook piece by piece and then alex would have nothing to linger within. she truly does believe that there’s something sinister that hangs in the air that makes everyone worse.

oh, how things change. how people change. at one time in the not-so-distant past, her and quinn had been thick and thieves. they did everything together and told each other everything. but now… their interactions have taken on an almost clinical quality. they’re more like coworkers than siblings. caleb is largely to blame for this — maybe even more so than russell — but rory fails to see his part in things. quinn tells her that he called about the foundation and aurora nods. he doesn’t exactly call her about business decisions. the last time she tried to give him a suggestion, he told her he’d talk to his wife if he wanted advice from a whore who didn’t finish college. the memory of this makes her roll her eyes. she’s not her mother’s biggest fan by any stretch of imagination, but that doesn’t mean she enjoys listening to russell shit talk her. “i’m glad he isn’t either, but what about your phone?” she gestures at the carnage of plastic and glass on the floor. “you can’t walk around without a phone in the year of our lord 2020. it’s like walking around without a head.”

of course you’re glad, you did your time with him and now it’s my turn. the blonde thinks to herself, there’s an air of guilt in being in grimmbrook because she knows that their mother is at home suffering. but alex is here an she’s tangible and quinn just misses her so much. she wishes that she could be the quinn that alex probably remembers and that they could be in sync again. but that quinn is lost downing champagne to avoid russells wandering hands. quinn shrugs. “it’s a piece of plastic it can be replaced. and then anyone who’s important enough will find my number.. or bernie will give it to them.” it’s a slightly defensive answer but then isn’t everything she says at this point. “any important calls will get forwarded...” she stops herself then, because she should at least try to have a normal conversation with her sister. “what.. what brings you out here?”

Of course the kiss is short lived and once he makes it known that he knows who she is Quinn jumps off his lap. The look on her face is priceless, like she is considering setting herself on fire. There is disgust and hatred and he knows perfectly well where those feelings come from. The girl has never been on board with Aurora marrying him and has always been very vocal about it. Not that this bothers him since her opinions have never been much of a threat.  ❛ You’re not a very good actress. You may look like Aurora but you definitely don’t kiss like her ❜ Not only that, but Quinn was giving off the self confidence that Aurora no longer has.  ❛ Are you going to tell me why you’re pretending to be my wife? ❜

she’s going to need a lot of alcohol to get over this humiliation, and the blonde starts by reaching around him and taking back the bottle of champagne that she sent over. his next words make her even angrier, so instead of taking a glass she simply opens the champagne and drinks straight from the bottle. who cares if he thinks she’s unladylike? not when he’s pretending like she didn’t know every detail of how to act like alex before he got hold of her. “you’re right.. i don’t know anything about how to act like aurora. because alex, my sister.. doesn’t act like whoever the stepford wife that you’ve replaced her with does.” she snapped back, taking another long drink of the champagne. 

There’s a part of him who expects for Quinn to come up with some excuse or to come clean about who she is rather than kissing him. Instead she fakes a smile, closes her eyes and brings her lips to his in what could only be described as an awkward and dispassionate kiss. In some way Caleb is impressed by her dedication and commitment to the part. ❛ Mhm, that’s nice. ❜ He whispers in her mouth before going full french on her briefly, and breaking it to make an observation. ❛ Does your sister know you have the hots for me? ❜

think of super models and of how bernie looked in a slip dress, quinn tells herself as he deepens the kiss. why couldn’t he and alex be fucking mormon or something? as he pulls away her face twists with disgust, and she shoots off his lap like she’s been burned. “for fucks sake. how long have you known?” she asks, wiping her mouth and snapping open her purse to reapply her lipstick. she can’t believe that she’d actually kissed him, and that it was all for nothing. all she could hope is that alex never found out because she didn’t fancy getting slapped.

if anybody should be angry enough to destroy a phone for no reason, it’s aurora. ever since caleb decided that he didn’t trust her and abby anymore, they’ve been spending a lot of time in the basement. she hasn’t gotten a good night’s sleep down there and it’s evident on her face — even underneath all of her makeup. part of her wants to tell quinn about that and the overdose, but she doesn’t. can’t unless she wants her at caleb’s throat and things are already bad enough. she doesn’t want to make them worse. instead, she watches in silence as her sister’s phone smashes into smithereens. she’s not judging. it’s no secret she used to destroy things — and people, in luke’s case — when she was young and angry. “he’s calling you too, isn’t he? he called me every day until abby told him to go fuck himself.” russell had actually sounded scared when that happened. it was music to rory’s ears.

quinn hates how much comfort she gets just from seeing alex, there’s always a part of her that wants to wrap her arms around her sister and hold her tight. to let all of the pent up stories spill from her lips, and hope that it made them as close as they once were. but instead the haughty blonde flips her hair off her shoulder and puts on her business smile. “of course. russell feels that i’ve taken my eye off the foundation at the moment and wanted to call to make sure that i was focused on the tasks in hand.” how odd it felt to act like alex was barely more than some colleague who was prying on her personal life, when she was one of the few people that quinn actually wanted to spend time with. “i’m glad he’s not calling you..” she adds, fiddling with the tiffany charm bracelet on her wrist.

❛ How thoughtful of you.❜  He wonders if Quinn is going to call his bluff and actually sit on his lap and he was actually surprised when she did. He felt her weight, which was similar to Aurora which meant that they shared a similar weight. Of course, he wonders what other similarities they had. He watches her, placing on hand on her thigh and giving it a little squeeze. He wants to see how long it will take before she actually cracks cause he has no trouble taking this far.  ❛ So - babe.❜ He starts, trying to keep his grin at bay and his thoughts to himself.  ❛ Where’s my kiss? ❜

Quinn had to use every single atom of self control that she had in her body not to slap his hand off her thigh. Her skin was crawling from the physical contact, but she managed to keep the smile on her face. That was one thing that Russell and all his cronies had taught her. A kiss, god could this night get any fucking worse. She was going to have to get so very drunk to forget this once she had what she needed. “I thought you’d never ask.” She simpered bracing herself. Then closed her eyes and kissed him on the mouth, praying that it wouldn’t last too long. Trying to imagine that he was Megan Fox.

Gio watched in confusion as she threw something against the wall, only realizing that it was her phone as he got closer. Engaging in conversations that really had nothing to do with him wasn’t exactly his cup of tea, but somehow it seemed wrong to just walk away from this one with at least asking about the violent outburst. They didn’t come without reason, after all. He knew this quite well as he remembered his own violent outbursts as things changed around him in ways he couldn’t comprehend and the only method of action had been to scream and throw things – just as this woman seemed to be doing.

“Good…afternoon.” Was it afternoon already? How long had he been out of the day? He really needed to get back and get back to work on his latest assignment. “I am aware that it is none of my business and I am not attempting to shame you or attempt to make you uncomfortable in any way I just – you aren’t supposed to do that. When someone does something they aren’t supposed to do, that is usually an indication that something is wrong. Is that accurate? Is something…wrong?”

Quinn continued to stare at the phone, it still didn’t feel like enough to have smashed it. The act hadn’t erased the nagging, bubbling feeling of anger and failure that was simmering away in her belly. She knew that it didn’t matter how much she tried to destroy the messenger that her fathers message would still be ringing in her ears. But it didn’t make her any less likely to continue to misdirect her anger.

The greeting from the young man, has the blonde raising an eyebrow there’s always a part of her that wants to destroy any man that comes in her path but she hesitates with this one. He’s certainly not anyone that she would hire to work at her company since he’s said more words to her in the short time that he’s known her than most of the people in her office have to her in a week. But it’s clear that he at least means well. “You seem like you’re a semi decent person so I’m going  to pre warn you that I’m a raging bitch. And not only am I a raging bitch, but I’ve also had a phonecall that made me want to set myself on fire, so talking to me might be like sticking your hand under an iron.”

Casper didn’t often take it upon himself to get involved with the menial affairs of other people, but there was something about her clear disregard for her personal property that managed to rise a small laugh out of him. He didn’t care for her language use, after all, cursing didn’t become a lady, but if she had been so willing to smash her phone in the manner she had, perhaps there was a reason. 

With one hand in his pocket, he lifted his other arm up, flicking his wrist slightly to see the watch face of his Rolex watch. He had time before his meeting, so the least he could do was help a damsel in distress. “That was a little harsh, don’t you think?” A small smirk danced on his lips, “What did that phone ever do to you?” 

If she could have set the phone on fire with her eyes Quinn would have done it, anything to erase the sound of Russell in her ear purring away like the snake he was. He was right though, she was failing Alex. She was no closer now than she had been when she first landed in getting her to come home, but it didn’t mean that she should have to listen to Russells whiskey soaked gloating. 

“Sometimes you need to not only shoot the messenger you also have to stamp on it until it can’t bring you anymore bad news.” The blonde responded coldly, tossing her hair off her shoulders as she turned her gaze on the stranger.

“Fuck you.” She adds for good measure as she looks at the now smashed phone.

when you imagine what the worst possible scenario in any case could be, you’re left prepared for anything. he approaches most situations and people with this in mind, so he’s not necessarily the best person to ask to see the sun shine bright on the sky  —-  unless there’s a reason or a precedent. this is why he gave quinn the answer he did: to have her hand him over the reasons and precedents on a silver platter. “ did caleb myers manage to scorn your fury? was it all the unicorn blood he bleghs into his hair? ” an important inquest ;  it differentiates suspicion from fact. but quinn has a point to be aggravated. people like alex, they’re …  susceptible. desperate to escape their horrors. born into a toxic swamp and seeking more poison to inject into their veins. “ i’m sure russell’s having a real lousy time. ” he says that with a twist of his ankle as he ventures toward the bar in his foyer, deciding to make some drinks for the both of them. honestly, he would’ve sliced russell falwell’s throat in his sleep a long time ago if it weren’t for the fact he thinks this is quinn’s and alex’s justice to serve. what a gross waste of space. “ alexa, play rock of ages. ” ah, some music. that’s better. “ so, she’s the princess in the tower and you’re the knight in shining armor marching on the dragon’s tower. ” he settles on a martini, so he plops an olive in his mouth. “ that’s nice. what if she steals your sword and stabs you with it? ”

quinn huffs out a laugh about his question about caleb. “i don’t trust any man who convinces someone like alex to marry him after just a few months, and then she suddenly changes personalities and names. it smells like she swapped one white devil for another to me.” the blonde responds, and that’s half of the truth. the other half is simply that quinn can count the number of men that she doesn’t actively mistrust on one hand. none of them have ever given her a reason to think that they wouldn’t all turn a blind eye to russell and all the others like him. she remembers the one time that she actually had the courage to try and get help, from someone within the company, someone she had grown up with who she believed would listen to her. but she’d been rewarded with a sad smile, and a pat on the leg. no lifeline, not even a suggestion that she should pass on her concerns to someone in law enforcement.  “russell having a bad time means a whole lot of other people have a bad time, and it’s my job to try and limit that.” she says, a grateful smile passing over her lips as he goes for the bar. “make mine a double.” she asks gesturing to the glass. “knights just have to bear their wounds and go on to try to unbrainwash their sister. she would have done the same thing for me when we were kinds...” she misses that alex sometimes, the big sister who was her protector. but that girl is so long god that it’s almost impossible to mourn her anymore.  

abigail throws the woman a confused look, furrowed brows and crisped lips and all. “ why the fuck would she sneak out the back door? ” a back door joke comes to mind, something about aurora speaking greek, among other inappropriate details, but she is too intrigued to distract the twin from the matter. abigail needs some answers. she vaguely remembers aurora mentioning quinn not too far back, but it must have had something to do with caleb since she doesn’t remember it very well. it can only mean she was too busy rolling her eyes into her skull and swallowing down the bile at the back of her throat to pay any attention to it. “ did you two have a fight? you can always ambush her at the house, i happen to have the key too, ” she offers, amused by the whole twin drama. “ i think she mentioned you not too long ago, and i don’t remember what it was about, exactly, just that i agreed with you — but it’s possible that i was just trying to piss her off. ” 

“i mean alex has always been a bit of a rebel.. at least she used to be.. sneaking out.. making crazy choices.” quinn responds with a raised eyebrow, the more she hears people talk about her sister and how she behaves now, the more she feels like ‘aurora’ isn’t her sister at all. “we didn’t fight... well not exactly.. i just disagree with marrying the first man who isn’t our father even if you’ve only known him fifteen minutes. and then immediately change your name and block your sister when she calls you out” the blonde responds, drumming her nails on the table trying not to show how offended she was when repeating the story. “i mean if she’s not here i’m not opposed to ambushing her at the house, i mean i am here to give her a pair of shoes that i should definately keep for myself.” she responded with a smirk. “that’s for the back up, i’m almost always right about any bad decisions alex makes.. it’s a twin thing.”
