if we’re being honest nd tumblr’s anti recovery attitude is part of what delayed my mental growth and path towards getting better for so long. i got wrapped up in the idea that if i’m not constantly suffering then i’m not really mentally ill or i’m not neurodiverse enough and honestly? that mindset is absolutely pitiful at best, and is the direct reason for suicide and other catastrophes at worst. yeah, mental illness isn’t something to love and be happy about having, so we try and alleviate the effects it has on our lives with jokes about it. but when we let those jokes consume us and become our entire person to the point where we think we’re nothing but the physical embodiment of our illness, there’s a problem! that’s not something to normalize or glorify! that’s dangerous & self destructive behavior and i hate that this site has helped coerce kids as young as 12 or 13 think that it’s okay to want to kill yourself and not ever want to get better because it’s not and all of us know this.

Kids are interesting. I’m babysitting a 9 year old boy right now who’s homework is to write a fictional story and he wrote about how in millions of years the sun will expand killing everything and one man fell asleep at the beach and missed all the official announcements about the world ending but he managed to be the only survivor of the solar flares because he applied SPF 100 sunscreen.
