THE BEAT IS HOT AND THIS IS THE SPOT

Like I literally remember how I first found it. We had JUST gotten Boomerang on dish, and apart from Dexter’s Lab I wasn’t much of a fan. I think I found it off-putting for some reason? We’d often watch it at night so I think Boomeraction threw me off lol

Anyway, I was in maybe 1st grade and was bored one day, so I decided to flick through channels. I had trouble remembering channel numbers but I knew I was in the kids’ channels, and I landed on Boomerang. Right in the middle of The Mr. Men Show.

I don’t remember the episode atm but I do remember Mr. Tickle, Mr. Grumpy, and Little Miss Magic in one spot. Might’ve been Up and Down but I’m not entirely sure (edit: it was Skyscrapers!). But either way, I was immediately sucked in.

Looking back I think it was the colors and the shapes, but I adored it. I honestly think that damn show helped me start to memorize channel numbers - had to remember where to watch it! Most times though it’d be on during school, but thankfully mom let me record it.

Then when I’d have access to the internet (grandma’s), I would do more research. There were books? Older cartoons? Another dub even? “Wow, this is cool!” I’m sure I told myself doing this late night searches at 6 years old.

I even had a Mr. Men Show birthday party, with a banner that had my name! Next time my birthday rolls around I’ll have to pull it out (hopefully nothing happened to it as it’s been in my closet).

I was so sad when the show quit airing overall that I remember trying to give myself “powers” simply to watch it - they never worked obviously, I was just a weird kid. Honestly might have been a sign of something too but idk and I’m still not entirely sure pff

I loved Mr. Men enough that people in my life still associate me with it - it helps that I still love it. I’m not sure if I’ll could ever hate it tbh, the characters are so fun and they genuinely mean a lot to me.
