âGonna need to get more gasoline if we want to make it to Chicago.â (Best cousins road trip)
Richard havenât really gone to a roadtrip in a long while. He almost forgot how liberating the open road is. To add to this, Heikki has agreed to come with and spend weekend just the two of them, kinda like the good ole days. âOh fuck, Ulrich forgot to fill the tank again.â Richard groaned as he looked at his gauge, muttering under his breathe something along the lines of âNever trusting that German fucker again.â before he sighed toward his cousin. âWell, we better stop to the next gas station. Gonna need to get more gasoline if we want to make it to Chicago!â
Vali sat at the bar as he took a large gulp of his vodka. He couldnât believe it. His marriage was over. He thought it would last forever. Little did he know that Rob would take off without him and without a word. Was he worth so little? Running his fingers through his hair he took a ragged deep breath. His heart hurt. Would this pain ever end? He was so busy drowning his sorrows in vodka that he didnât notice the man come up and sit beside him at first. When he did finally notice him, he gave a half smile. âSorry Iâm not great company tonight.â

âThey sound so cute and adorable!â Vali let out a few giggles. âI think it would be funny to see this huge dog with these two tiny dogs.â He thought about the dogs that he and Rob were going to get. Nothing was stopping him from getting a dog now. Maybe that was something he should look into. âOk, next round is on you. But where are we going?â
âThey are, unbelievably so!â Richard agreed, thinking fondly to the dogs heâs left at home, wondering what they are up to.â Shrugging the thought off, he motioned for the bar tender to give them one last shot each for the road. âJust trust me man, youâd be better releasing all this hurt in a karaoke bar.â Richard grinned, cheery and with his eyes glinting with a hint of mischief.
Quotes from The King of Crows by Libba Bray as sentence starters, part eight
âSheâs only eleven. Iâve got a niece whoâs eleven.â
âIâm terribly sorry to call you so late, but itâs rather important.â
âGonna need to get more gasoline if we want to make it to Chicago.â
âSmells bad. Like somethingâs gone rotten.â
âDoesnât smell like farmland to me. More like a slaughterhouse.â
âAnybody home?â
âAre those⌠claw marks in the door?â
âHey, kid. Maybe you shouldnât hang around in this place. Whaddaya think?â
âYouâre dead. Youâve been dead for years.â
âWe should go. Weâre trespassing here.â
âThe United States Treasury doesnât mint enough money to make me go in there.â
âWhy did you do that?â
âThat bodyâs been there for weeks.â
âWho would run off and leave a dead body on the table?â
âHow many of them are there, you reckon?â
âYou think theyâre going to let us out of here?â
âGet on this bus now!â
âThatâs how they get you, kid. Itâs a slippery slope.â
âAre you going to turn us in?â
âWhatâs your power?â
âWill we see you again?â
âYou hear about that funny business out in New Mexico?â
âSheâs a real beaut.â
âHowever did you get the courage to do that?â
âEphemeralâgreat word, look it up.â
âHow are you? Where are you?â
âI miss the soup dumplings at the Tea House.â

Noah: We're the only family each other has so I guess she learned to move with the times
Noah: But there are other ways to be supportive!
Noah: Yeah, not exactly going to have those cards rushing off the shelves
Richard: Yeah well, I still think there are other ways to show your love and support? Like, IDK... a bouquet of flowers.
Richard: What do I know anyway? I never really knew my granparents.
Richard: I suppose what I'm saying is, count yourself lucky man.

Reaching for the bottle of vodka, Vali poured himself some more. âHow cute. What breed are your dogs?â Vali loved dogs and he remembered that he and Rob were going to get a dog. When the man asked if he had enough, he shook his head. âNah the heart still hurts.â
Well, Pickles the older is a Corgi and Gherkins is a teacup Pomeranian. Weâve been thinking of getting a third, probably a Saint Bernard but you know, probably not the best idea right now.â Richard said as he took a sip from his frothy beer. âsorry to hear that brother,â He paused for a moment before he said, âtell you what, next roundâs on me but then weâre leaving. I know something thatâll take your mind off your ex better than booze.â

Noah: My grandmother just sent me a box of condoms because I told her about my boyfriend....
Noah: I don't think I've ever been more embarrassed haha
Noah: Do they sell thank you cards for that?
Richard: A+ to your Nan for being so progressive and supportive.
Richard: Still, I'm glad that didn't happen to me
Richard: Yeah, I'm sure Hallmark has a huge market for Grandchildren wanting to thank their Nans and Pops for giving them sex toys.

Richard really wasnât the best at social interactions. Most often than not he preferred his company, unless youâre Icarus, in which case youâre pretty much the only exception. Regardless, there was still something so gut-wrenching and relatable about a man alone in a bar, obviously crying for help as he nursed his bottle of liquor. Approaching the man, he gestured for the bar keep to pour him a pint. âPlease, if I wanted great company I could just go home and watch TV with my dogs.â He said, trying to lighten the mood hard as it is given the manâs current state. âYou think youâve had enough?â
