What are you guys up to this week? 

We are about to play at the Kerville Folk Festival, then we are leaving for a three week East Coast run. Eighteen days, fifteen shows. 

Tell us one thing about your band that no one really knows. 

CJ has a 6th toe. Helps him gleam the cube. 

What is your craziest tour story? Tell us about it. 

Once, driving out of El Paso at a border inspection station, we were told to pull aside for further inspection. The officer told everyone but Travis to leave the van and go to the building and take a seat. From where we were told to sit we could see and hear the officer screaming in his face, interrogating him. After a couple of minutes he sent Travis back to join us. After about 15 minutes of quite literally tearing the van to pieces the officer yells to us “The three of you from El Paso, get over here”. We have an absolutely no drug policy in the van, but we were still fear stricken. We walked over to the interrogating officer who was tearing up the van. The look in his eyes said he found 1,000 lbs of illegal drugs in all of your instruments. We thought we were done for, but then the look in his eyes got a little brighter. “Are you The Dirty River Boys?” he asked. “Yup, we are”. The officer let out a laugh, “I watch you guys at The State Line all the time, I love you guys! You are doing El Paso proud, mijos!” He informed us he was only doing his job and he trusted we weren’t transporting drugs or people anywhere. It was a pretty memorable moment on the road

Q: What was the first Vinyl/Cassette/Cd/8-track that you bought?

A: Gabby: Vinyl, Foreigner "4."

Burette: The first 45 I bought was Lovin Touchin Squeezin by Journey. It's still a jam.

  Q: Where are you now/what are you doing this week? Any gigs coming up?

  A: Gabby: I'm at home in Ft.Worth. This week I've been playing/recording music, teaching Yoga, playing with our dog, ZZ, & taking care of stuff. 

Burette: We are busy recording our next album and getting ready for a show at the Grotto.

Q: What are you looking forward to most at this years Dia?

A: Gabby: I'm just super excited to be a part of this year's Dia! Simply put: Rocking out with The Cush, & being rocked out by the other bands, meeting new people, & creating good vibes all around.

Burette: I am looking forward to seeing James Hall again as well as all the other great bands. We're excited to be a part of this festival.

  Q: Where was your first gig ever? Tell us about it.

  A: Gabby: First gig ever was at The Hop(now called Aardvark) off of Berry St., in Ft. Worth, with Buck Jones. I was so nervous that I was about to go on stage, and play my bass in front of people, with our band. We had a great time, a good show, a lot of family & friends there to support us! By the end of the night, The Hop had asked us to come back for another show the next month! All in all, it was an awesome first show to have experienced!

Burette: My first gig was at the Weatherford armory back in 1990(?). My band played first, we were awful. And coincidentally, The Toadies headlined that show. Old School.

Dia De Los Toadies will take place September 13 & 14 at Fort Worth's Panther Pavilion. This year's show will kick off with an intimate evening with Toadies – flipped, stripped and deconstructed on the night of Friday, September 13 and will lead into a full day of music on September 14.
