“i– this isn’t what it looks like.” the blonde stood in front of the alley way, dark pools of what looked like ink dripping from the uncorked bottle that remained in her hands, her panicked expression unchanged as the monster before her took to it’s feet. a demon, that sabrina had accidentally summoned while attempting her ritual, whoops. it soon moved it’s attention from her, lunging for the person standing just behind her but sabrina was quicker– the panic had SUBSIDED the moment she dove as well, just in time as the demon hit the ground instead of it’s desired victim. “i’ll explain in a minute–” she exclaimed breathlessly, using her body to shield as she stuffed the wine bottle into the person’s hands. “but i need you to be quiet and hold this, understand?”

               A   YAWN   EMERGES   FROM   DEEP   WITHIN   the   hollow   of   his   chest   as   nero   finishes   wiping   down   the   umpteenth   table   of   the   night.          closing   shifts   are   leisurely          &          boring   in   equal   measure.          minutes   tick   by   at   a   CRAWL,          day’s   strain   has   long   since   settled   in   weary   limbs          &          lids   become   too   heavy   for   once   bright   eyes,          threatening   to   close   permanently.          glance   around   shows   fellow   co - workers   are   hardly   fairing   any   better   but   there’s   fifty   minutes   left   on   the   clock          &          at   this   rate   nero’s   doubtful   he’ll   last   another   ten.          “          whaddaya   say   we   liven   this   place   up   a   bit   ?          ”          question   posed   but   he   doesn’t   pause   for   an   answer   before   disappearing   into   the   back.          radio   that’d   been   steadily   droning   as   background   noise   abruptly   blares   an   upbeat   tune          &          nero   returns   with   a   flourish,          not - so - subtly   swaying   to   the   beat   as   he   picks   up   where   he’d   left   off.             “          dunno   about   you,          but   this   i   can   work   with.          ”

His fingers tapped against the bar impatiently. The past few days had been spent wallowing in his helplessness and boredom and Eric found the best way to cope with it - other than tearing someone’s head off - was to drink. Not that it had that much of an effect on him but being in a bar meant escape from the ever-prying and judging eyes of strangers and the ever so slight numbness that alcohol granted him meant liberation from his own thoughts.

“What does a guy have to do to get service around here?” He muttered under his breath, completely oblivious to the stranger that sat next to him.
