the very first despair week was september 2013!
there have been 31 despair weeks as of september 2016. yes, you read that right. thirty one.
there have been 6 months with no despair week: february 2014, july 2014, september 2014, december 2015, april 2016, august 2016
the longest stretch of despair weeks with no break has been october 2014 to december 2015: 14 months straight!
out of all 33 students (counting izuru as separate from hajime), only 7 characters have never been mastermind: kyouko kirigiri, touko fukawa, hifumi yamada, sakura oogami, nagito komaeda, nekokmaru nidai, and ironically, junko enoshima.
there have been 12 characters (disregarding muns) who have been mastermind twice. byakuya togami is the first character to have been mastermind 3 times, albeit with two different muns.
the first pair of dual masterminds were ishimaru and mondo in the very second DW, although mondo didn't officially become mastermind until he actually killed mastermind ishimaru to take his place. the first pair of dual masterminds to actually work together was naegi and hinata; this was also one of two weeks which ended early.
the first mastermind to make physical changes to the school environment was mukuro in the third week. themes didn't really begin to emerge until around akane (april '14) or so, and didn't become a staple until around ibuki (december '14).
the first anonymous mastermind was togami (ray) in may '14! he was also the first mastermind to call to attention that this whole screaming 'verse is a simulation.
originally, all dead students became ghosts who were almost entirely powerless and could recall all past weeks. the first mastermind to make any kind of change to the death format was saionji in february '15. this began a trend to do something new and creative with dead kids each week!
the record for the most number of people falling to despair in one week is 12, in march '15!
three despair weeks have taken place in locations besides hope's peak: jabberwock island (gundam), six flags (souda/izuru) and rome (aoi)!
AFAIK, there have been approximately 7-8 weeks that have not ended with the mastermind being killed. this trend did not begin until around march '14 or so.
despair week used to end with all the dead students coming back to life as zombies and chasing after the living! but this trend was quickly broken. it made one or two reappearances but we haven't seen it in a long time.
trials actually used to be private! each trial was conducted in a chat containing only the mastermind and its participants, and nobody knew what was going on. public trials came about a few months in, and the concept of broadcasting the trials throughout the school IC didn't emerge until later. september 2016 brought this back for the purpose of having other students investigate the aftermath of a trial.
