Critical reflection
I feel the content of my response isĀ well structured and invaluable to plant- based newbies. The information provides a solid foundation from which they begin the journey to discovering a sustainable lifestyle by responding to the likely barriers the reader will face and providing the tools and knowledge to overcome them.
Iām not as confident in the aesthetic design of my work. Iād like to resolve the aesthetic further with an emphasis on the personal journal element to really dig into the message that plant-based lifestyles are an individual experience. As a future direction Iād like to emphasise the cooking element as I feel this is the strongest facilitator of a sustainable commitment.
My greatest lesson is that good designĀ is honest. I see the journey of this project as critical to my growth as a designer, and place the use of authenticity as driver for creativity as an invaluable tool in the communication of visual design.

Workbook progress
Serious with a non serious streak
How to get people engage + actually solve the problem
This project is informative and funny
Itās tone and aesthetic are the draw cards and lead into the serious stuff without being boring.
What I can learn from it aesthetically is that the project uses a few keys, and rolls them out.
These are the doodles - which make it human and engaging The quotes written in hand lettering do the same The infographics to sum up the content and the flat mateās adviceĀ label as an added element of engagement
Week 9 feedback
After taking to Donald I have a different perspective on the tone of my project.
Currently iām drawing from my experience without actually saying I am. This isnāt a problem but thereās no emotive value.Ā
The facts and info are there to facilitate and the design will compliment that, but will it just look like a swag wiki how to guide? Yes, you read swag correctly.
By leaving out emotion the book seemed clinical, by added it it read more like a self help guide.Ā
Whereās the mediator? What is the tone?

Vegan vs Plant based
Something I touched on earlier was the barriers constructed by the label of veganism. As I explore options to address the purity problem and ways of easing my audience into plant based lifestyle that best serves their bodies as individuals I move away from the label.
Plant-based is friendlier, and resonates with a larger audience.
In reflection, although Iām moving away from veganism as an end goal, I can see how the response still honours the lifestyle, and better understand the need for my audience to find where they feel comfortable.Ā

Feed backĀ week 7
After completing theĀ āOh bugger workshopā and the creativity exercise I had a solid two directions -Ā
One was expanding upon facilitation with the plant based plate and the other another way of creating provocation.Ā
The provocation was constructing the consequences of over consumption of meat, from meat. How it could look was a map or diagram filled in with mince or a detachable belly made of meat that you wear to represent the higher BMI associated with high meat consumption.
The expansion on of the facilitation project was creating a chopping board with sections to illustrate portion sizes for the components of the meal.Ā
Talking to Jason about which direction he thought was stronger I think Iām sticking to facilitation. A couple of points he made was to make it as easy as possible for the user. He also said make it desirable - design shouldnāt be the hero. So if a potential resource isĀ about swapping out meat in your favourite recipes start with a lasagna or pizza! Sneak the info in later when theyāre invested. (a plate looks like a pair chart and isnāt as fun).
My food bag vegetarian?Ā
/vegetarian starter kit made of food and recipes
Also consider speculative design. e.g. saying to your phone whatās the fridge and it telling you what you could make.
Really nail an audience
He also mentioned to explain what I was trying to solve and where I was coming from in the final presentation - validation is key
