Who are you.
I am describestuff. I describe stuff. This is a blog where i provide image descriptions when there are no descriptions in the original post.
What do I do if you described one of my posts?
I would appreciate it if you added it to the original post through the ALT text or just pasted it under the image in the post, unless it is within a series of reblogs (which happens). In that case, reblog the image description.
You don't need to credit me, in fact it may be more of an inconvenience for people using screen readers.
in general, always search for an image description in the reblogs (filter the reblogs to comments only) if it's not provided in the original post and reblog that version.
Should I describe images on my own posts?
If you are able to, yes. Blogs like mine do not exist so that you Don't Have to describe the images yourself, they exist because you Don't Do it. Posts should be accessible by default and preferably not later.
With that in mind, if you, for any reason, can't write the image description yourself, you are free to DM me under my blog and request an ID for a specific post or send the image. I will respond with the ID itself. Again no need for credit, just put it under the image or in the ALT text.
Here are some resources for starting out.

You are free to look at other guides as well online.
Note that some older guides may say not to use ALT text: this was because ALT text back then on Tumblr had a small word limit and was also straight up not available to click on the post like it is now. Therefore, you would have to go into the page source itself to find the ALT text, which was an issue for people not using screen readers but who may have needed to read the description but had to take extra steps in order to access the ALT text. So people would just put the description in the text below the image to remove such a hassle.
Also because usually, there is a distinction made between ALT text and Image Descriptions, where image descriptions are more in-depth while ALT text is more short, as if you were just describing it to someone on the phone (thanks tumblr accessibility article).
However, the ALT text letter limit is now around 4 thousand letters, which is plenty for a more in-depth description. That and also Tumblr describes it as an Image Description now? So uh... just use that I guess.
Disclaimers
I'm somewhat new at this kind of stuff, so I'd appreciate feedback if you have any, especially if you are more experienced than I am. I'm not as knowledgeable about accessibility in general as other people may be, so feedback in that category is also highly appreciated.
I would also like to clarify that I am a high school student with my own hobbies, and thus I may not provide image descriptions as fast as some other people do. Sorry about that...
Uh, anyway, thanks!
