First of all I apologize for taking too long to respond. I'm not used to looking at notifications frequently and my tumblr is a mess, because they flagged me as inappropriate content. I think, first of all, he had 4 months watching her, before Damon and her discovered him and I think that from that point on he may have started to develop this fascination, then we saw the evident sexual tension between them. I don't think he was lying, when he talked about her qualities, in the cave, when he said she was brave, loyal, patient. I believe he wanted to be like her when he found out he needed her forgiveness. I think she was a good reference for his humanization, if she had gave him the chance to prove that he could be a better person. Second, I think that for whom she was the first person in years who considered trusting him, when he said he knew how to escape the  prison world, before she found out what he had done in his past. An example is how he reacted when she ignored Damon and released him from the chair. And when she reprimand Damon when he was threatening him. I think Bonnie was the first person to look upon him in a long time. And I believe he liked to think of Bonnie as his partner, while they worked on a way to find out where the ascendant was and how she always seemed to respond positively to him, react positively, like when she smiled at him while he flirted with her. I think he would always want to be around Bonnie, mainly because he wants to be accepted by someone he admires. But the Kai that Julie transformed is much more shallow than the Kai that we met in season 6 so I don't know how he would act around her, especially after everything that happened in their history.
