NEXT STOP: ANYWHERE !

      A NOTION IMPORTANT TO YOUNG GIRLS YET LEFT MOSTLY UNSAID – she’d learnt from a young age that no one was going to save her but herself. not her father, not some prince or knight in shining armour – she’d have to become that knight herself because the real world was never filled with fun && games  (  it’s hard, cold – full of people who abandon or hold harsh words thrown like sharp daggers to break down dreams && those notions of becoming more  ). 

      much better to depend on oneself than others – be the independent && self reliant person she was taught to be && walk in the footsteps of servitude  (  of duty above all else while rescuing yourself daily  ). people had always just been disappointments to her – if not actively against her, against the person she grew to be when she started trying to outgrow her place in life  (  a maid ? being a guard ? ridiculous. stay silent. you know your place.  ). but what she was given && shown by the world through her adolescence was never something she wanted to thrust onto the younger generations – even if she doesn’t see herself as one, she’d like to be a good role model  (  always wanted that glory she was never allowed to outwardly pine after – the chance to be able to help those younger become what they want && hold onto their own agency when she couldn’t  ).

        ❝   yeah, no one’ll ever teach you that one. it’s something you just come to terms with on your own one day – but, hey, what do you say i teach you how to literally be your own knight, huh ?   ❞

𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧   𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬   𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐞  ,    𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝  ,      upon the blade twirling in cassandra’s fingers.    only a practice blade  ;    NOTHING  DANGEROUS .  .  .    yet it fascinates her all the same.    a flicker of awe in those eyes ,   &   catalina slowly reaches out ,   fingers grasped ‘round the hilt.    it feels light in her hands.    light ,   yet  sturdy.    she never truly held a weapon in her hands.    small knives ,   yes ,   but they typically served as tools ,   not weaponry.

“    really  ?    you’d do that for me  ?    ”       wide - eyed gaze flicks up to cassandra ,   the glimmer of a smile etched into the corners of her lips.    there’s something in the way cassandra commands a sword that catalina admires.    in it ,   she sees an ease ,   a  confidence.    the sort she spent her life never possessing   ——   the sort catalina still struggles   nurturing  any  seed  of.    how can she when   HER  VOICE   so often escapes her  ?

𝐠𝐚𝐳𝐞   𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝   𝐮𝐩 ,    𝐚   𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐰   𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝.     a flicker of amusement across indigo eyes ,   broken  through  the  frown  in  question.    slender fingers so delicately traced patterns along those bruises ,   but now ,   stalyan ceased.    the nearest a   deep  blue   colouring his ribs ,   where she promptly drove the tip of a finger into its center.       “    that what you’re looking for instead ,   TOUGH  GUY  ?    ”       she teased ,   head canting.    bare feet lacking the added height of her boots ,   stalyan lifted herself onto the tips of her toes  &  pressed a lingering kiss to the line of his jaw.       “    i think i’ve earned the right to get   a  little  worried ,   rider.    you do get beat up an awful lot.    ”

𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭   𝐚   𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥   𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ,     she thought ,   her form gliding over crystalline floors.    a palace rife with beauty ,   with  power.    such power that it sparkled beneath the moonlight  :    A  SIGHT  TO  DAZZLE  THE  EYE.    how long had she waited to see such power  ?    to feel it so close ,   just within her grasp  ?    lack of corporeal form did not stop   EXCITEMENT   from rippling beneath zhan tiri’s fingertips ,   nor the bounce in her skirt as she floated uninhibited toward this woman cloaked   so  gloriously  in  the  strength  of  ice.
