“Yesterday I played my final game with my team, my heroes, London Brawling. Very appropriate and fitting that it was against those epic neon babes Montreal.
This has been a wild 8 years with my incredible league London Rollergirls. I’m so inextricably linked with our extraordinary global community that we have built with our bare hands, that we’ve poured our hearts, our souls, our tears, our strength into and dedicated our lives to. I’ll never fully leave you roller derby, and it’s just about breaking my heart, but our relationship has to evolve and I am excited to see what adventures lie ahead for me without you dominating every aspect of my life.
Every one of us came to this sport looking for something, I was one of those who didn’t even know they were searching. And what did I find? I’m not sure I’m able to put it into words, but I can tell you that it’s so, so beautiful and so, so important. It has brought me opportunities and moments I never dreamed I could experience and I will never let that go. And I want that to go on forever, I want everyone to have the chance to experience this kind of joy - so go forth and kick ass on the track and off it and continue to be the caretakers of this beautiful thing we have created together. I believe in you, I’m proud to have shared this journey with you by my side.
