People think that torture is pain. Itโs not pain. Itโs time. Itโs time to slowly realize that your life, itโs over.
He had a good point ; and, complaints aside, Eric actually PREFERRED when they made god points. All out primal fear was more than justified, but when one could apply logic and good ol'fashion skepticism instead of just the need to ( RUN RUN RUN ! ) - well, it made for a far better jumping off point for everyone involved.
A hand came to lay over Eric's heart in a show of playfully-faux gratitude, not a doubt in his mind now that the walk back would be, at the very least, far more lively. Even before the fall there had been hypothetical talk of what it would be like if the worst were to happen and humanity were to change - said conversations often revolved around the need for safety, but rarely did anyone bring up just how BORING it would be ; and boring is exactly what it was. The only thing worse than being in a constant state of fight or flight, was being in that state AND having nothing to do but daydream and twiddle your thumbs.
Caught up in his own strange through process for a moment it took Eric a beat to come up with an answer, and when he did it was far from the moving bullshit his recruiting partner always managed to come up with. It was the truth, but perhaps not the ENTIRE truth, and when someone was being asked to blinding put their trust in you? Eric was completely right about his very rehearsed speech being 'nausea inducing' ; it sounded like something that a bad telemarketer would say to try and sell someone on a scam in this new, weird world that they lived in. A community welcoming people in without any sort of vetting process? Were they really that naive? " Interesting sales pitch, Red, " he nodded along, lips rolling together as his eyes drifted away from the other man momentarily. Eyes drifted across their surroundings, taking it all in -- you could never let your guard down anymore, especially when you were accompanied by a stranger. When he spoke up once more, dark orbs landed on the man once more, his skepticism apparent in the way they narrowed slightly. A little pitch of the truth finally coming out. Those people needed people like him, it seemed. They needed people that were hardened by the outside world, to keep them all safe and cozy. " Doesn't sound like the worst trade, " he agreed, rolling his shoulders back slightly, feeling the tension that lived there so deeply, " I could use a little bit of comfort, that's for sure. But you know those people . . . they ain't gonna stay like that forever -- they can't. " He had seen it before with Hershel and his family. They were out there, living on the farm -- unphased by the reality that plagued the Earth. And now, who knows what came of them. Shane expected the worst, but a part of him did wish that family well. It was the least he could do.
"No one likes a smartass," Lena scolded as she rolled her eyes at the man who helped raise her. Lena lifted her pant leg to expose her bleeding knee. "Is there a clean wash cloth or something I can use to clean myself up?" Lena asked looking up at Shane. "Considering it's a bit too late for me to stay back at camp," she added scrunching her nose at the man a small smirk on her lips.
He couldn't help the smile that tugged at his lips, clearly amused by the girl's response ; Lena was definitely a Grimes, that much was certain. She had always been stubborn, almost as much as Rick, and it only seemed more evident the older that she got. " Alright, let's take a look at it, " he nodded along, reaching to his back pocket to retrieve a rag. It wasn't necessarily clean, but it would just have to do. He eased himself down onto his knee and pulled his bag off of his shoulder, placing it down beside him. He reached inside to retrieve a bottle of water, and poured a bit onto the rag to dampen it. " When we get back, we'll get you patched up . . . again, " he mused, " but this time, you're gonna rest up until that thing is healed. Can't have it gettin' infected. " He carefully held onto her leg with one hand as he pressed the cloth against her knee, dabbing away the blood as best as he could.

The feeling was mutual, there was no denying that ; but said feeling only ever seemed to be acknowledged where the other party was concerned. After the past few years, being offered safety ( or at the very least respite ) out of the blue was SURE to sound like nothing short of complete bullshit, but to be the one making the offer, having to sell the idea of being comfortable and out of harms way as if it were a beat up old car instead of the gift that it was . . . well, the whole song and dance became exhausting after a while, and for Eric ' a while ' came sooner than it may have for others. With a tired sigh fingers raked through messy ginger strands, the sound of boots scraping across gravel filling the silence as the man turned in place, walking backwards as to keep eye contact with the other as he spoke.
Since the beginning, Shane had always been very skeptical of other survivors ; it wasn't that they were all bad, but you really could never be too careful. He'd seen it time and time again, hence why he had opted to just stay out there on his own. It was easier that way -- no longer looking over his shoulder, expecting a knife in his back. The dead were easy, lumbering around without a real thought in their heads. The living, however, were dangerous. Dark orbs watched the other man intently as he walked ahead, his gun still gripped in hand. The ginger didn't pose much of a threat, which did allow some sense of comfortability around him -- but the uneasiness was still present. That was something that would probably never go away. A huff of laughter escaped his lips, his head shaking at the other's remark. There was a small part of him that didn't like the idea of leaving him alone out here to fend for himself. It just didn't feel right. On the other hand, would it be stupid of him to follow him back to this community? Would he be walking right into a trap? It really did feel too good to be true. " I'll walk you back, Red, " he agreed, his expression stern, " but can't guarantee I'll stay. Besides . . . sounds like y'all got enough goin' on there, why would you want another mouth t'feed? "

mobile for most of the day today, which means i will likely not be writing actual replies. unless anyone is down for a rp over discord in the meantime.
if nothing else, i would love to plot! like this and i will hit you up!
"Luckily for him, we haven't crossed paths yet."'
. THERE'S a sharpness about this statement, a bite to the word 'him' that speaks to something truly malevolent. The Governor allows his little 'revelation' to settle upon the room, and then his face takes on sudden warmth, a boyish smile replacing the gloomy set to his mouth. Friendly Philip. Affable Philip. And yet he can feel those around him tensing, Alice and Stevens freezing in the act of sterilizing equipment not twenty feet away.
. "Are they still holdin' up there?" He asks. If a herd had come through and hit Rick's group hard and fast, the farm may very well have been abandoned with its cache of supplies left intact, just waiting for the lucky scavenger to retrieve it. He didn't plan on dragging his people out of their homes and migrating to this farm, but perhaps a hunting party, a few good men to sack the place and cart the loot back.
. THEIR lossโฆ Woodbury's gain.
. "Might be worth takin the trip over that way. Checkin' it out." He eyes Shane's bandage again, "I hope the pain ain't troublin' you too much. We're short of vikes at the moment."
It was plain to see the distaste that this other man had for his former friend, and he couldn't lie and say that he his feelings were much different. There had always been love there, of course -- Rick was his best friend, but for so long, it felt as if he were holding onto the past. He was just trying to cling to the thought of who they had been before. They were just different people now. An unfortunate truth . . . for the both of them.
When asked about the farm, Shane's body tensed slightly. His body shifted in the bed, as if he were trying to push himself up, but the regret was instant. He hissed sharply through clenched teeth, his body falling back to rest against the mattress once more. His annoyance evident on hardened features.
" Nah, man . . . that herd drove 'em all out. I doubt they're back there. The walkers were everywhere. I don't think they could've cleared 'em if they tried. " His gaze shifted away from The Governor momentarily, fists balling up at his side, " I'm fine, just need a solid day or two and I'll be back on my feet. " Shane wasn't wrong about that : he had always been a stubborn son-of-a-bitch, so he would likely end up pushing through the pain and be out of the bed by nightfall. Or he'd try, anyways.
" You wait 'till then? I'll take you to the farm. "
