but whats a really underrated part of megumis character is that hes never been scared of death. his entire life hes been far more scared to live than ever dying. it punches up his breakdown over the fact yorozus been posessing tsumiki for over two weeks. it was fate worse than death.

i mean this is the kid who looked at The King Of Curses and went "oh youre scared to die. pussy. cant relate."* and LAUGHED in the face of his own death, his dads death, his Other dads death. he probably laughed when geto died!!

but his entire character arc is about choosing to live. his first action is him choosing to let yuuji live, (probably had a hand in yuutas execution postponement too); his season 1 climax is about letting himself fight to live despite despite despite everything; season 2 is a tragic breakdown of his arc - despite him wanting to live hes forced to die anyway; season 3 is about forcing himself to live despite despite despite; the 2nd part of the culling games is continuation of that until his soul breaks.

thats when his own life and body and soul get ripped away. hes physically and metaphorically crushed under the weight of everything with no one to pick him.

yuuji has to land 7 black flashes and countless other hits DIRECTLY TO THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN THEIR SOULS for megumi to even have A CHANCE at choosing.

All Of The Damage It Took To Take Down Sukuna Was The Same Amount Of Damage Needed To Lift Just Enough Of The Weight Off Megumi.

THATS when yuuji tells him its okay if he wants to die, no one will blame him, they'll all be here if he wants to come back. (there seems to be a lot of misinterpretation about that conversation, but ill save that rant for another day)

he has nothing to live for. Literally Each Of His Lives Has Been Destroyed. his non-shaman life through tsumiki and saitama and tokyo, his sorcerer life through gojo the clans the jj society structure and college.

and we Already see him back pushing through all of the trauma to take his own life back with his bare teeth. Thats what the mission in 271/272 is about.

but theres a hopeful part about it: megumi wont let kenjaku and sukuna take away the last part of him - his technique and his job.

but YEAH were missing a big chunk of his character arc to end on a positive note: where he starts living for himself, because he can and wants to.

and personally i appreciate the choice of not making megumi "fixed" overnight just to rush the happy ending.

it takes time in-universe and care out-of-universe for him to get all that. its a good choice to Not put it in the main series, Looking At Where We End The Main Series.

its a perfect idea for a sequel, even a 3 volume thing like modulo. but it all depends on whether its the kind of story gege thinks himself capable and/or wanting to make.

we also see that in BOTH instances of chimera shadow garden, when multiple megumis get summoned at the same time, the same way any other shikigami are :)) and the entire megumi can sink into the shadow only works if the technique counts him as a shikigami

hes also the first sorcerer in history with a dead mahoraga. because satoru killed them.

the last three things satoru does for megumi is making sure tsumikis body is safe, taking away the gun pointed at his head for all his lives, and making sure that meg knows if he wants to put blame on anyone for anything he can blame satoru if it means he wont blame himself.

yeah!! thats what i was thinking reading tsurugis loredrop chapter in modulo and the question "if i had a technique would yuka have been born?" and its a tricky question to answer cause.. if it werent the 10S technique then yeah, iori wouldve probably stuck around until 10S stuck, but if tsurugi got the 10S? definitely not

which makes it so interesting that iori ended up stalking yuuji. because assuming cursegumi is true, if iori tried stalking out meg he'd be dead 10 seconds after opening his big mouth.

which Might be what actually happened. iori first tried getting yuuji to tell him where meg is, yapping about the importance of 10S or some shit and yuuji telling him "it doesnt matter", so later he stalks yuuji, yuuji throws him off his back so iori goes to look for cursemeg, Possibly finds him and cursemeg kills anyone trying to mess with the 10S. or killing iori for being a bum of a father.

thats like, Completely pulled out of my ass tho, literally 0 evidence for that.

and i know were told 10S manifests like any other technique at 5/6 years old, but the way toji was confident hes talented makes me think theres something thats like, a tell of the 10S. definitely already identifiable by satoru at 5 old, possibly before megs technique manifested. we know it manifested by wintertime when meg turned six, but yeah its just a hunch

it was Such a hot debate point for EVERYONE during modulo coming out and we had shrodingers blessing (in the box theres a dead blessing and an alive blessing at the same time and seemingly the author is allergic to finding out which is it once observed!!!) it was So Fucking Annoying

1. canonically we have No in-text-confirmation that there can only be one 10S user at a time

2. we have No in-text-confirmation that 10S follows different rules from any other (non-/) inherited techniques (except for the part where were shown time and time again that 10S is a FREAK of a technique on every level specifically with its own set of rules and rituals, but ykno shrugs)

3. the only CANONICALLY STATED IN TEXT BY NARRATOR AND/OR CHARACTERS connection between the 6E/Limitless and 10S users are the gojo/zenin clan fighting each other and getting killed 400 years ago and mahoraga being the only thing in the universe who could Actually Figure Out How To Properly Kill Gojo (if you dismiss every other thing we've been shown in the visual medium that is a manga, but ykno shrugs)

4. we dont know when megumi died. we dont know if he actually died a human death.

for all we know, megumi got turned into a cursed tool/object! and frankly there's a bit too much evidence to support that!

5. 6 eyes are a physical trait, so i dont think they even count towards any inheritance. its more like only a limitless user can have 6 eyes manifest into them, and there can be multiple limitless users att just like any other inherited technique.

1. we get it confirmed by gege directly that yes there can be multiple limitless users, but only one 6 eyes user at a time. im not sure but gege mightve said that there are other limitless users during satorus time, but i may be making shit up. but think about how satoru is related directly sugawara no michizane. therefore directly related to the gojo clan head from 400y.a. another direct line.

2. blood manipulation, the kamo clan IT is like, funnily enough the most common innate technique in 2018, statistically. both kamo noritoshis, choso and kechizu and eso, and yuuji, and the other 6 cursed wombs, all have some sort of blood manipulation, presumably. with only not knowing after whom noritoshi jr got his technique from, all of them got it from their parent. direct line.

3. even in the zenin clan of the 21st century naoya inherits naobitos technique in the same lifetime. (technically 20th century, cause naoya was born in like 1990 but yk what i mean). another direct line.

if 10S was as common as any of these techniques, the zenins would not have been clawing for megumi at the slightest bit of opportunity.

furthermore, there is no direct line of 10 shadows anywhere. megumi is surprised to hear of a 10S user from 400 years ago. if there was anyone around, wed at least get a mention somewhere.

but theres nothing.

the only direct line megumi has to both the zenin clan and the 10 shadows is through toji and maki. the heavenly restriction that takes away all of your cursed energy and heightens your other senses.

you know whos been shown and described as having a heightened sense for cursed energy? satoru with his six eyes, yeah, but i mean megumi.

its not just like the six eyes, where its a physical attribute that may or may not show up.

a 10S user within a generation guarantees a 0CE Heavenly Restriction within a generation. probably two generations.

and its not just megumi who does this, because its the same exact case for yuka.

POSSIBLY iori has the HR, too, since we hear nothing about him having a technique, only lamenting how weak his generation has become

(and i think mai having a construction technique only further supports that if the twins were born as a single person they couldve had the 10S if ykno the 10S didnt cannibalised their technique in exchange for the HR.)

tldr: 10S might be worse than 6E inheritance-wise, but technically megumi doesnt HAVE to die before yukas birth/technique manifestation.

obviously non-sorcerers are gonna have way lower resistance to anything cursed energy. but weve seen what it does to jogo and even to sukuna.

and IV is strictly a mental technique, it overwhelms your brain, thats why its so potent and still can affect the soul. it might be even worse for the soul cause it hits directly directly.

so either megumi is just That Much Tougher Than Anyone. (barring yuuji, possibly cause hes never been hit with IV).

OR its the 10S/6E synchronicity conspiracy theory, and meg doesnt exactly have a resistance to it but rather a conductivity.

OR the effect just isnt outward.

megumi laughs out loud. at the message that gojo never told him he killed his dad, who megumi thought abandoned him. megumi who ran to his dads body like a little kid. gojo and his dad who are both dead. and he laughs like its the funniest thing hes heard his entire life.

he stands at miki's grave and smiles at the mention of geto.

all he admits is his head is spacey. which in megumi speak probably means hes dissociated to the levels most people would only get overdosing lsd or some shit (idk how drugs work).

i think megumis ending is.. underdescribed?? underutilised?? because gege wanted a happy ending. hope in the face of all the evil and grief. and that just isnt megumi at that point in time. hes holding on by the skin of his teeth for yuuji and nobara and the gang.

for the story to have a happy, hopeful ending, megumi needed to be alive. but after the events of the story its physically impossible for him to be happy and hopeful. hed need a whole another arc for his story to reach a proper conclusion.

and you can criticize it as a bad ending for a deuteragonist or interpret it bittersweetly - megumis story has Literally Been Ripped Away along with his agency and soul by sukuna, for the entirety of the last 2 arcs. he physically doesnt get the same amount of time as the rest of the cast does.

he doesnt get a nice happy hopeful ending because thats not where his character arc is at. were missing an entire recovery arc.
