Oh @hyena-bro my sweet summer child, allow me to tell you the story of Mesperyian, the goddess who never was and never will be.

So it all started with this tumblr post, right?

And obviously people mentioned the goddesses Aphrodite and Persephone, and the benefits of answering such goddesses as the most beautiful. But then Tumblr user 28weekslaterhater mentioned to answer the goddess Mesperyian (most beloved daughter of Hades) as the most beautiful. According to them, “jealous ho” Aphrodite burnt half of Mesperyian’s face off in a blind rage for being more beautiful than her.

This post began to spread to the fact-check-less masses of Tumblr, and more mythology sprouted up about this so-called “Mesperyian”, how she was the goddess of torture and punishment (even though a goddess of punishment already existed) and had to wear a cool mask because of the aforementioned face burning.

Everyone took it as gospel for years until various Tumblr users pointed out “hey if you happen to just… look up this goddess, the only thing you’ll find is this Tumblr post”. After that, it had been exposed that Mesperyian never fucking existed and that Tumblr user just completely made them up on the fly.

No, it doesn’t. Neurology influences your gender and NOT in the same areas where autism is involved.

“The way I EXPERIENCE gender is different because of my autism!”

No, it isn’t. Gender isn’t an “experience”. You have a gender based on your neurology. Your experience with social pressures and the nuances of being viewed as different are not linked to how your gender manifests itself.

“But my autism affects the way I express my gender!”

Expression isn’t linked to your gender either. Anyone can dress and act and present any which way they desire without it changing their gender in the slightest.

But I see my Adhd very differently. ADHD is a neurotype and a developmental disorder, meaning my brain is structured differently than someone who doesn’t have adhd. I have always had adhd and will always have adhd, and the same applies to autism. So if you gave me a magic button to cure my adhd, I wouldn’t press it, because i have no idea what my brain would be without adhd. It’s a fundamental part of my identity, maybe even more fundamental than my gender.

It’s important to note that every neurodivergent person (adhd, autistic, and some others deprending on your definition of neurodivergent) sees their mind differently. some might press the magic button, some might see their divergence as a disorder, and we’re all correct, it’s the kind of nuance where each individual has to draw their own conclusions. But saying autism or adhd is a mental illness is misleading and treats neurodivergence as a bad thing, just because it’s different.

Jesus Christ. It’s harming the trans community’s reputation, for one. Why do you think the “I identify as an attack helicopter” joke started? It wasn’t binary trans people, it was MOGAI children basing their genders on objects and feelings and disorders.

And of course more issues arise when you have cishet autistic kids flooding LGBT spaces and calling ACTUAL trans kids ‘bigots’ for wanting to discuss gender dysphoria and the things they go through on a regular basis.
