The Ashfur-Stalker is a Mystery-class dragon. Unlike most known dragons, it possesses both reptilian and feline characteristics. Its body is covered in both scales and thick fur, the amount of which varies considerably depending on age, region of origin, and the individual. Younger specimens generally sport abundant fur, while older individuals have much less. This gradual reduction in fur is, in fact, one of the most reliable ways to identify a Titan Wing.
The Ashfur-Stalker is probably one of the most variable species ever discovered. Its size, shape, colors, and even certain anatomical details can change dramatically from one individual to another. Despite these sometimes spectacular differences, it remains surprisingly easy to recognize an Ashfur-Stalker at first glance.
Each individual seems to inherit characteristics reminiscent of different feline species. Some possess the general appearance of a small wildcat, while others are more reminiscent of large predators. The most imposing specimens observed thus rival certain other known large dragons.
They all share several common characteristics. The Ashfur-Stalker has four powerful legs ending in particularly sharp claws, as well as two pairs of wings allowing for agile and silent flight. Its eyes, both feline and reptilian, provide excellent vision in low-light conditions.
The Ashfur-Stalker is capable of naturally producing an orange-colored fire. This flame possesses unusual properties that distinguish it from the fire of many other dragons.
While its base color generally remains orange, it can evolve depending on the nature of the magical bond uniting the dragon with its wizard. In some individuals, the flames take on slightly different hues or manifest particular properties depending on the magical abilities they develop throughout their lives. This ability is directly linked to the species' most remarkable characteristic: the bond that unites each Ashfur-Stalker with a human possessing magical affinities.
The Ashfur-Stalker is renowned for being an extremely intelligent dragon. This species possesses the exceptional ability to learn and speak human languages in addition to Draconic. While not all individuals develop this aptitude to the same degree, most are capable of understanding complex conversations and actively participating in them. It is not uncommon for an Ashfur-Stalker to engage in genuine discussions with the humans it encounters.
Despite their generally sociable nature, these dragons remain extremely proud. They find it difficult to tolerate mockery, insults, or disrespect. A wounded Ashfur-Stalker can hold a grudge for several weeks, or even several years, depending on the circumstances.
From birth, each Ashfur-Stalker is bonded to a human with magical abilities. When the dragon becomes sufficiently independent, it naturally sets out to find that person, sometimes traveling considerable distances.
This unique bond allows the dragon to develop certain abilities inspired by the magic of its soulmate. The exact manifestations vary greatly depending on the individual and the powers of the wizard in question. Some develop flames with particular properties, while others acquire entirely different abilities. The death of the wizard results in the permanent severing of this bond.
This special relationship largely explains why Ashfur-Stalkers are feared in many regions. Dragons, as well as wizards/witches, are two groups historically feared, persecuted, and hunted by human populations. This mistrust has led many Ashfur-Stalkers to live far from civilized areas despite their natural attraction to humans.
Regarding their diet, they are opportunistic and can consume a wide variety of prey/food in general. However, they show a marked preference for fish, which they catch with remarkable efficiency thanks to their quick reflexes and sharp claws.
Despite their many strengths, Ashfur-Stalkers possess several notable weaknesses.
The most well-known is their profound aversion to water. While they are capable of crossing a river or enduring light rain when necessary, most avoid large bodies of water whenever possible and hate getting wet. Their fur takes a long time to dry and becomes particularly uncomfortable when soaked.
Like many other dragons, they also fear eels, as they have the same effect on them.
