her lips remain curving upwards in a devious smirk. the moment he freezes and shivers come from his body she lets out a laugh and releases him, her frame slipping back into the water. “ corpses are less dead than us i guess… ” she comments while drifting back into his line of sight. “ am i really that cold? ” rosalie queries, lifting a hand out of the water and examines it before letting it find his chest. listening out for any change of breathing or heart rate for further exploration of the idea. “ i’ve been dead a long time…might be why. there’s no blood or heart pumping…just…stone. ” her gaze drops from his and the smirk falls away. “ not human, remember? ” hues slowly move back up to meet his while her hand plops into the water causing a small splash.

she could hear the clear change in his breathing but anyone could in the distance that their frames were to each other. no immortal qualities needed for close proximity. the grin lingers on rosalie’s lips at the thought that she has any affect on the wolf. it is something she could tease him about later but for now, she would play nice. “ drown me? you forget that i don’t have to breathe. ” she voices. her hues scanning over his features while she effortlessly takes in every word. “ a candle-store? i’d say that smell isn’t so bad…could be worse. i thought it was considering the tantrum you throw whenever i come around. ” she lifts a hand and shoves his shoulder, knowing it would do no harm in the body of water. “ i’m always right…but you’ll learn that soon enough if you keep that treaty down. ” rosalie sends a wink in his direction before her body sinks into the water again and only comes back up when his back is facing her. pale arms swiftly reach out and snake around his neck from behind, her front leaning into his warmth. “ never drop your guard, dog . ” though she didn’t think that he has and so she prepares herself for a well-deserved reaction.

EDWARD CLICKS HIS TONGUE AGAINST HIS TEETH, just like his mother used to when she chided him. He hates that she’s drawn to him. Humans often are because they find him beautiful, even more so than his siblings at times (save Rosalie, of course) but this is different. She wants to get to know him. When has anyone ever wanted that outside his coven? (Sometimes within his coven too, if he’s honest.) He mutters in his native Chinese, too soft for her to hear, a waste of precious breath he needs to hold on to to speak between holding his breath around her. What he said would’ve gotten him boxed around the ears if his mother or his aunts had heard it. “I’m not sure you want that.”

Thankfully the food smells are enough to drown out the worst of it. It’s easier to talk to her here, be around her here. The idea of hanging out with her vapid and shallow human friends (Angela aside) is so appalling it makes him want to laugh. He can’t stand any of them and their horrible thoughts. Jessica alone makes him want to crawl out of his skin. How does he say no without saying no? He doesn’t want this door to close even though he should bolt it shut. “Which beach?” He pauses. “I have to go to Port Angeles anyway. I could drive you.” And he can’t resist adding, “I’m not sure that truck of yours would survive the trip both ways.”

BELLA  PURPOSEFULLY  KEEPS  HER  GAZE  OFF  OF  HIM  ,  not  wanting  to  let  him  see  just  how  nervous  he  makes  her.         she’s  not  used  to  such  pretty  people  all  trying  to  be  her  friend   ,    much  less  one  that  seemed  so  adamant  against  her  very  existence.            in  arizona  ,  she  was  just  bella   ;    just  as  plain  as  everyone  else  -------------  nothing  new  or  novel  about  her.            SHE  WOULD  FADE  INTO  THE  BACKGROUND  HERE  EVENTUALLY.

EDWARD  NEVER  KNEW  EXACTLY  WHAT  TO  EXPECT  FROM  HER  -----------------     a  product  of  not  being  able  to  hear  her  thoughts  ,  he’s  sure.            he  can’t  predict  how  she’ll  react  to  him.             it’s  frustrating  &  intoxicating  &  maddening  &  compelling.             even  something  as  simple  as  her  wanting  him  near  her  after  he’s  behaved  as  a  child  might  after  a  tantrum  he’s  thrown  -------------  quite  literally  thrown  ,  considering  the  tree  broken  across  the  meadow.           SHE  DIDN’T  CARE  ABOUT  THE  DANGER  ; didn’t  care  that  she  should  not  be  here  ,  beckoning  the  monster  closer  to  her.     

  he hadn’t been expecting that.  not even remotely.  his shock probably bleeds out to her.  he stares.  though he wouldn’t necessarily peg her to have any of the traditional signs of lying.  she’s always been relatively easy to read.  jasper doesn’t blink for a few solid minutes.  at least his mouth isn’t open.   “and what if I don’t believe you?  what’s the harm in continuing to-to hate you?  to be mad at you?  do you know how long i refused to believe that what you did was-”  his words die out and his shoulders curl in slightly.  “why now?  i get it, you had perfectly good motive.  you were angry and desperate and i had no idea what actual love felt like.”

ROSALIE 

when his tan frame collides into the waves, she waits for him to eventually resurface and she doesn’t fight a roll of her eyes at his words. “ show off… ” she dives underneath the water and doesn’t come up until her frame is inches away from his, swiping the blonde locks out of the way of her vision of jacob. “ you know, you still smell… ” her smirk lingers as water splashes onto her porcelain skin. briefly a sparkle appears with the sun peaking out of the thin clouds above them. rosalie ignores it. she would love to forget what she is—especially right now. she wants to have fun for once. “ what’s your plan? trying to figure out a way of offing me without anyone noticing? ‘m surprised you even offered for me to join you…but i’m sure you didn’t expect me to say yes either… ”

     A  QUESTION  HE’S  PONDERED  MORE  THAN  ONCE  ABOUT  HIS  OWN  LIFE  --------------------  was  there  more  ?          something  better  waiting  beyond  the  veil  of  their  second  lives  ?         or  was  this  it  ?            HAD  HE  DOOMED  HER  TO  THIS  ETERNAL  LIFE  ,  no  hope  of  something  after  ?         even  he  doesn’t  know  the  answer.         how  many  places  of  worship  had  he  wandered  into  in  his  centuries  of  life  ,  simply  begging  the  structures  to  reveal  something  to  him  ------- a  vision  ,  a  voice  ,  a  hint  of  something.         it  never  brought  forth  anything  new  other  than  the  faint  echo  of  peace  ------------  IF  THERE  WAS  NOTHING  ELSE  ,  AT  LEAST  THIS  LIFE  WAS  ETERNAL.      

she hums, letting her lips curve into a devious smirk at the chance to take the wolf up on his offer of a possible brawl. “ you’d have to catch me first… ” she reminds him and almost scoffing at the mention of edward being anything close to perfect. “ he most definitely is not. carlisle gives him too much credit. if anything, alice is a saint. he is nothing close to her kindness…even if hers is nauseating sometimes… ” rosalie allows herself to look away but then is not able to help but glance over when he stands up. immediately on guard until he practically demands her to go in the water with him. “ you’re serious? you want to hang out with me? ” elbows supporting her weight as she lays in the sand with her jacket underneath her frame. “ i can’t promise to tan but i guess i could go for a swim. ” the smell of jacob makes her want to run far away but she also makes note of the fact that the longer she is there with him, the more tolerable it is. “ first things first; i am not getting these pants wet. they’re too expensive. look away if you’re uncomfortable…’m sure it’s nothing you’ve seen before. ” she sarcastically and teasingly remarks, slipping them off and tossing them with her jacket. “ beat ya’ there… ” in the blink of an eye, she is at the water with her frame pushing against the waves. “ come on, jacob ! don’t be a sore loser. ”

❝       I  JUST  DON’T  WANNA  SIT  IN  THE  SAND.           don’t  let  it  go  to  your  head.       ❞             he  laughs  to  himself  ,  rolling  his  eyes  at  her  as  she  undresses.               HE  WON’T  HUMOR  HER  IN  SAYING  SHE’S  RIGHT  ;  well  ,  partially.          he’s  seen  leah  naked  more  times  than  he  ever  wants  to  admit  -------  but  it’s  true  no  girls  have  purposefully  undressed  around  him.         

“ oh, so now we’re buddy, buddy… am i understanding you correctly? we’re just supposedly to get along now? ” her words are supposed to come out as playful but she isn’t sure how well that comes across to him. “ i don’t mind the shade…but the sun is…well, was nice once… i can barely feel it now. ” i never did choose this life, jacob. she wishes to say. i don’t revel in the way that i’m different. i’d rather act as human as possible. her gaze drifts back over to the water for a moment to hide the emotions that can no longer come across the perfect features she was given along with the immortality. she can’t cry. she can’t burn or tan. she isn’t human. she misses those days…the good ones atleast. “ though, i do love the waves. the sound is better then the bickering at home…it can almost drown it all out here. ” her hand flicks up in response to his teasing words and sends a small amount of minerals beneath them in his direction. “ and i’m not afraid to get dirty, believe it or not, dog. sand won’t kill me. ”

❝               NEVER  SAID  WE  HAD  TO  GET  ALONG.              but  i’m  less  likely  to  rip  your  throat  out  for  fun  now  ,              ❞                he  teases  back  ,  eyes  turning  back  towards  the  ocean.            he  catches  onto  her  sadder  disposition.          wonders  ,  but  doesn’t  ask.                ❝          you  mean  that  house  isn’t  a  peaceful  paradise  ?                impossible.           edward’s  a   fuckin’  saint.           ❞                   could  he  say  something  with  less  feeling  ?            probably  not.          

“ you always smell…i’m just choosing to tolerate it today. ” she replies while she approaches. her eyes looking over him for a little too long. “ carlisle told me you’d dropped the treaty…had to come see for myself. ” an unnecessary sigh escapes past her lips, “ guess since i’m here and not dog meat then i’m okay. ” though, instead of turning back, she takes several steps closer to the water. a slight smile coming upon her lips both at the sight in front of her and his terrible joke. “ ha ha, very funny, got anymore overdone jokes up your…? well, you don’t have sleeves…you know what i mean. i come in peace. ” the blonde states while slipping her jacket off and laying it out on the sand beside him—a feet or so away. “ why’d you get rid of it? just curious… ” the vampire settles on her back in the sand, taking in the sounds around her. it is peaceful. she is beginning to debate coming back here more often before she quickly pushes the thought away completely. i don’t want to be around those mutts all the time…right? they don’t like us and we don’t like them.

❝             YOU  ARE  SUCH  A  STRANGE  HUMAN.           you  can’t  tell  me  you’re  truly  relaxed  next  to  me  after  everything  you’ve  learned.          ❞             amusement  is  in  his  tone  ,  even  as  his  gaze  appears  as  though  he’s  truly  trying  to  figure  her  out  all  at  once.            he  rolls  onto  his  side  ,  the  soft  ground  beneath  them  giving  way  slightly  as  his  elbow  digs  in  so  that  he  can  half  hover  over  her.              {        he’s  not  deaf  to  the  way  her  breath  hitches  slightly  or  the  stutter  in  her  heart  rate.         HE’D  RATHER  ASSUME  SHE’S  SCARED  THAN  EXCITED.      }
