Rosegarden Unfinished fic #1
Summary: When all is said and done, and Salem is no more, there is only to unite the world left. But inbetween breaths and silences, when friends reunite, different feelings finally find the ground to sprout and flower powerply.
Notes: Thank you to everyone who said they’d show an interest if I started posting my unfinished works here! These are from all the way back while vol 6 was airing and I was getting to know the characters, before I wrote Off the Beaten Track or Till We Have Faces. This is the very first thing I wrote, and I’ll do my best to post them chronologically, with that timeline in mind, so please be patient while the characters take shape. Since most don’t have titles I’ll just keep them numbered like this.
Silence stretches out in the office like a woollen blanket, only broken by the ticking of the mechanisms that serve as the headmaster’s decorations. But it isn’t time itself passing that scratches on Oscar’s ears, but the impatience of how slowly it moves, knowing that every second brings him closer to something he’s been anticipating for too long.
The sun travels high above the white tower, casting golden light across the white panels of the rebuilt office, and out across the bay, glittering in the waves crossing the border between ocean and sky.
Peace. It whispers in the air, breathes in his ear, a wistful sigh of something almost tangible, almost within his grasp. Finally.
Though, of course, peace also means paperwork and boredom in an office of splendour, too high above the ground for him to see it clearly. As well as students that begin their education while they are the same age as himself.
“Tell me again why I agreed to this?” He moans meekly, rolling back in his office chair.
A laugh is all the answer that echoes in his mind.
It fades into the sound of an approaching airship, and Oscar turns to see it growing on the horizon, crossing into the endless sky from Vale City.
The elevator moves much too slowly, his heart echoing in the tiny space. And Oscar infinitely regrets the mirror that now shows him how his cheeks glow with red, and his green eyes sparkle with emotion and excitement he was never good at hiding in the first place.
A boy stands behind him in the mirror, amusement clear in his expression as he leans back against the wall to observe him.
“I haven’t said anything yet.”
“Good. Don’t start now.”
