the mental logic behind this is so infuriating 'Elves are biologically more moral than humans in Tolkien' -> 'okay then lets give them the 'good' morality, that'll fix it' -> 'since I have decided this is the righteous thing to think and do, if you imply Elves have social prejudices then you are being bigotted somehow because if Elves are biologically moral then you are saying that bigotry is moral' YOU CANNOT REHABILITATE BIOLOGICAL MORALITY!! DECONSTRUCTION'S THE BEST WE GOT!!

This kind of thinking is so rife in fanfics, or at least used to be back when I read tolkien fanfiction. Like I swear to god every fic had a scene where an elf and a human talked about some social ill and the elf would be like 'haha you silly lowly humans and your barbaric ways, thank goodness we elves are ontologically pure and would never do such a thing 😇' and then people who called themselves 'tolkien academics' on twitter would rail at RoP for implying that elves had lower classes and a misogynistic society due to minor costuming decisions... we are not beating the catholicism like this besties.

we gotta stop treating other peoples headcanons and interpretations as some sort of malicious attack on the character itself. I know you love the character and you feel that certain interpretations go against the core of their being, but that doesn’t actually mean it shouldn’t exist. you’re tiptoeing a very conservative line when you take away other people’s safe sandbox to play in when you engage in the fandom and negatively asserting your own interpretation. you don’t need to announce your vehement disagreement every time you don’t like something to the whole fandom, the truth is you need to learn to be uncomfortable and not make it everyone else’s problem. block and filter, curate your own space.
