Nuzzling Heated Rivalry, S01E04

Look, the problem that Avengers: Doomsday is running up against is quite simply that Infinity War/Endgame were just too good at ending that era of Marvel.

I’m not saying they’re perfect, but what I am saying is: Infinity War and Endgame and the Thanos arc built the series up so high, that Doom just … can’t hit with the same level of a threat. Thor’s out here trying to hype Doom up as the worst of the worst feels deeply hollow when you remember post snap Thor and how much that arc literally devastated him.

And Marvel knows it: I mean they’re working with what they have, which is just throwing the OG Avengers in there, and throwing as much cameo fan service in as they can. We all know it’s why we’ve got RDJ as Doom and Steve Rogers somehow back, Gambit, everyone’s fav divorced old mutant couple holding hands. I get why they’re doing it; like beat that dead horse if it’s still making you money, and all that.

But it would feel a lot more like a new gen of Marvel if they committed to keeping the endings they built. The Thunderbolts don’t have to be the “new avengers.” Doom could be a baddy that’s acknowledged as “a guy trying to make his mark on the multiverse that would rival Thanos.” It’s ok to have things end; it makes them matter.

I love this little detail that when Shane gets closer to Ilya's heart, his hand slowly and unintentionally crawls to his cross, and the moment his finger almost touches it Ilya leans back, distancing himself. It is such a tiny moment that you can overlook especially since you're focused on the gentle forehead kiss, but I believe it is so symbolic for them.

Yeah no, I’m going to argue that HR actually is well written. Her prose is solid, her characters have flaws and growth and depth. You might not like certain narrative choices she made, but that’s a matter of taste.
