Delicately Mine

You say you take friendships seriously but you never took me seriously enough to make the full effort to meet me for a meal or even a hug. The friendships you took seriously were the ones constantly threatening that they’d leave. I never did. I have always been patient because you have so much on your plate, so many unfair things in heaping portions that I could never take away but helped carry until my back was breaking and then offered to carry some more. Even when you told me I was carrying it wrong. I have always justified how heavy it was and how much it hurt me because you hurt too, and more, and god I love you and because you helped me through so much. But it’d been years since I could call you without feeling like my need for support was a burden on your back, too, and I think that that’s not how serious friendships work. I’ve always thought we were better together but one sided isn’t how serious friendships works. But I faded into the inky blackness and you let me. I reached my hand out more than once and touched nothing but air. I am the only serious one but god I love you.
