Has working at a farm recently given you any new ideas/insights into what life on the Feller ranch would be like for Mohs, Dusty, and the Piplings?
Awh thanks so much for the ask, and this is such a cute one, wahh!
Yes, absolutely! I actually grew up in the countryside in an old mining turned farming village, so I have always been surrounded by both geology and animals since I was a wee lad.
Saying that, actually working on a farm has given me a lot insight into how farming as an occupation works as opposed to hobby farming. I've always known it was hard, physical work with long long hours; but some things that have surprised include:-
Seeing new baby animals being born/hatched never gets old and is always exciting
Animal feed is EXPENSIVE, and HEAVY
Your work day revolves entirely around your livestock, feeding, watering, moving, health checking, vaccinating, building houses, pest control, providing enrichment etc. etc. etc. You really are at their whim.
Unfortunately, many animals may not survive to adulthood. You can provide the best care in the world, and sometimes things just don't work out. As a farmer, you also have to make the difficult decisions as to whether an animal has a good enough quality of life to keep it around.
A farmer's tan is a real thing. And I've got a terrible one LOL
There is nothing more peaceful than sitting with your animals after a long, hot day of work, and enjoying a cold drink whilst watching them go about their business.
As for the Feller Ranch Family, I have been inspired to write and draw more of them based on many of these experiences! I just need to find the time now!
Thanks so much for your ask, Jadie! >3< Lots of love to you too!
