Definitely a Real AI: Chapter 6 âThis is a Terrible Ideaâ Teaser
âSo Mango, what are you?â Skizz asks, catching Grian and Gem off guard by that question.
âSkizz,â Gem says.
âWhat? We have to know if we want to give him a health potion. Not everyone can take health potion, some people melt.â Skizz says.
Grian stares at him.
He doesnât want to become goop.
Gem opens her mouth but quickly closes it as she seems to think for a moment and gives a short nod. âOk, youâre right. But there were better ways to word it.â
âHow? Ask him what planet he was from?â Skizz says.
âWellâno. But there has to be a better way than asking âwhat are youâ,â Gem says.
Before the two can banter even more, Grian breaks it with something that has been pestering him since he woke up in the cell.
âGrian,â he says, earning looks from Skizz and Gem.
âYouâre a Grian?â Skizz asks.
âI never heard of a Grian,â Gem says.
Thanks for reading the short teaser for Definitely a Real AI chapter 6: This Is a Terrible Idea!!
Sorry for the long wait! Had to deal with life but donât ya worry, I did not forget this. This chapter is definitely a more difficult chapter but thatâs partially due to the amount of action I have packed into chapter 6.

When writing, I have a skeleton baseline of what events I want for that chapter and rough concepts of how they should happen.
But the key words are âskeleton baselineâ, cause while writing things tend to easy shift and I have this thing called a brain that wonât shut off with different ideas.
So now I have a few scrap ideas that didnât make it into chapter 5!!
And instead of boxing them in, I want to show them off. While they didnât make the cut, it doesnât mean that they were bad. They just didnât fit anymore.
So here we go!
Food Exchange- Grian and Impulse
Now this idea was a very early concept so it doesnât have much details. The idea was that I was gonna make the mango cubes run out faster and almost make Grian panic because thatâs a serious issue.
But before the panic could really settle, I was gonna have Impulse leave a tube of a different food cubes outside the cockpit door. This would have tasted 100% better than the ones Grian was eating.
Impulse would have walked away and hours later when he came back, the tube would be gone.
Not a bad idea but it would involve into the concept below:
Into the Cockpit- Gem, Impulse, Jelly, and Grian
Now this idea was built off the Food Exchange one but also added more. Food running out and the GIGS needed to go in the cockpit to repair it. Cause letâs face it, it needs some fixing.
The initial idea was that Grian would allow access to Gem and Impulse so they would go into the cockpit while he hid in the bathroom. Jelly would have came through the vent and comfort Grian while the two GIGS did the repairs.
They would have also resupplied the medical supplies with more food and water, letting the lie go on but making sure the alien in the cockpit didnât starve to death.
The reason why this idea was scrapped was because it enforced the hiding and secrets. During chapter 5, I wanted to show that Grian was adjusting to the GIGS and didnât want to lie anymore.
If I had kept that idea, it would have made it feel like one step forward and two steps back. I did not want that. That shows more fear than the hope I wanted.
The Original Ending of Chapter 5- Everyone
Alright, so the chapter 5 ending I published was not the original chapter 5 ending. Though I will mention a tiny spoiler for chapter 6. Go now. Not gone? Ok, spoiler time.
Originally, when the Raiders and the Blight Husk came through and destroyed the Mayhem the Raiders were just going to continue chasing the Blight Husk.
The bioscanner that the Raiders had would have picked up 4 life signatures: Gem, Skizz, Grian, and Jelly. It did not tell them what exactly it picked up, just 4 lifeforms.
The original idea was that Scar and Impulse came back, saw the destruction of the Mayhem but were relieved when everyone was ok. The GIGS would have talked in the ship with Grian where it would have been revealed to Grian that they know by Impulse slipping some information.
Then the Raiders would have came back, captured all members of the GIGS, having scanning only 4 life signatures, and take the ship to their main ship. Chapter 6 would have have Grian saving all the GIGS.
So yeah⌠It had a lot of holes and when writing I was dreading the moment when Scar and Impulse came back then followed by the Raiders cause it didnât flow well with me.
When I was writing I realized âwhy donât I just have the Raiders capture only Skizz, Gem, and Grianâ? That helped a lot and patched up the holes I was noticing.

Jelly is basically a cat sized biased mood ring. She has orange eyes, twin tails, and smoky grey fur normally.
Now I say normally cause sheâs a biased mood ring. Her fur can shift colors to show emotion whenever she wants.
Yellows, pinks, and oranges typically mean happiness, love, and give me more treats.
Blues and greens can mean sadness, surprise, and disgust.
Purples show a mark of curiosity, focus and deep interest while browns show an array of caution and hesitation.
Dark reds however mean fear, anger, distress and she wants to kill it.
Now, again, biased mood ring. Her fur shows off her emotions and therefore her opinion. For example, she may show dark reds if she sees something that she wants to eat. All based off of her opinion.
Other features the Jelly does are her head rotation and the sounds she makes. She can rotate her head almost 180° and instead of the normal purring sounds ya would expect from a cat, Jelly makes a trilling sound with soft clicks.

What did Scar call her again? Mau something. Maukin? Mauque? Maukun?
Yeah, that last one sounds about right.
Jelly sits, tails flicking, head tilting almost completely to the side, eyes locked onto his.
Oh, come on. He can do this.
Exhaling, Grian slowly crouches, careful not to scare her off. He raises his hand out towards her.
She rises, approaching more slowly. They watch each other carefully, neither moving too fast.
âPlease donât eat me. I taste like mango cubes and theyâre awful.â Grian says, as she sniffs his hand, whiskers twitching against his skin.
Remembering Scar mentioning something about scratching behind her ears, Grian reaches up to do just that. Almost immediately warm streaks of yellows, pinks, and oranges ripple across her grey fur where Grian touches her. She presses into his hand, a low trilling sound rising out of her, broken up by strange small, quiet clicks.
âOh, arenât you adorable,â Grian says, his other hand joining in on petting her.

Definitely a Real AI- Chapter 5: âPlease Donât Eat Meâ Teaser
The device turns slowly in the projection, its edges flickering faintly as it displays a small, blocky unit about the size of a thick book, with a set of narrow rings wrapped around its middle.
âItâs a thruster sync unit,â Impulse says. âThe one we have now is cracked. Without it, the ship wonât handle cleanly.â
Grian straightens in his seat. He doesnât recognize the part, but that sounds like aâ
âControl response,â he says under his breath, before he can stop himself.
On the feed, Impulse glances up briefly before looking back at the projection. Gemâs ears flick once, weight shifting slightly.
âA what?â Skizz asks, all four eyes narrowing, earwings tilting to the side.
Scar glances up a second late. âWait. What?â
âIt wonât stop where you want it to,â Grian says, glancing toward the console. âYou turn, and it keeps going. You have to fight it to keep it where you want it.â
Impulse grins wider. âYeah! Thatâs it!â
Hope ya enjoyed the short teaser for Chapter 5: Please Donât Eat Me!!
Got a bunch of fun little bits in this chapter and am halfway through making it? Now I say that but who knows how many words are gonna be in this chapter. I have a set goal but I could easily shoot over it if the chapter needs to.
Who knows whatâs gonna happen in this chapter. Certainly not me. Definitely not. Nope. Never. I live under a rock.

Definitely a Real AI- Fun Little Alien Design Facts
I had a ton of fun creating the alien designs for Impulse, Gem, Skizz, and Scar. While working on them, I kept thinking about their species and how they function.
So here we go! I gather a couple of fun facts that I really loved and imported into the final designs!
Impulse
Impulseâs species are the Manur.
Impulse is consider quite tall for his people, standing at 4â8
Some Manur have 6 arms
The dust coating on Manur is not decorative, itâs apart of their skin
Stone-like clusters naturally grow in these areas dust coated areas
These areas act as natural armor
Gem
Gem is a Luzmori
The reason why Gem is so brightly colored is because itâs a natural camouflage on her home planet
Gem has really good hearing
Her split ears help with directional hearing
The raised heels stance that Gem has ainât really a choice, sheâs basically on permanent tippy toes
Skizz
Skizz is a Caelrok
He has 4 eyes, the smaller 2 often half lidded unless theyâre focusing
While he can fly, Skizzâs 4 wings are not built for speed, instead they are built for power
The earwings are very expressive
The Caelrok have strong lungs, able to breathe fine in high altitudes
Scar
Scar is a Vexlar
As well as Cub
Yes, the Vexlar are based off the Minecraft mob Vex
The Vexlar are cannibals to their own kind, hence the sharp teeth
Vexlar wings allow them to glide only
Some of Scarâs scars are from surging attacks from other Vexlars
Scar can glide but not as long as other Vexlar
If youâre wondering why they all have alien designs, hereâs the fic! Click here.
In the Definitely a Real AI, the hardest thing by far has to be picking finalized alien descriptions for Skizz, Gem, Scar, and Impulse.
Iâve been trying to imagine those 5 as aliens before I even started writing and let me say, there has been many ideas.
General Goals
Designing Skizz, Gem, Scar, and Impulse as aliens was somewhat challenging. So I set up 3 goals for myself.
Alien yet not Alien
Embody the Character
Simpler the better
1. Alien yet not Alien
When designing alien designs, it can be very easy to get lost in the rabbit hole of alien designs. I could come up with hundreds of designs.
However the more alien a design gets, the more it loses focus and too complicated. I did not want to over complicate the design and lose the character.
2. Embody the Character
Another key thing I knew I needed to do to make the designs good was embody the character.
I canât just throw darts to a wall and see what lands. No, what I wanted to do was pull elements that had prior connections to said character.
Example: Skizz and angels. He is commonly associated with angels in fan arts.
This way, people can read the descriptions along and have a good chance of figuring out whoâs who without seeing the name.
3. Simpler the Better
Alien designs can get out of wack quick. So many cool features could be added. But with all these cool features, the easier it is to over complicate things and get lost.
So without further ado, let me stop blabbering and start talking the reject concepts. I have rejected whole concepts and also rejected single features that at the time felt cool but ultimately threw away.
Impulse
In all honesty, Impulse had the fewest changes. Going in I knew I was leaning towards a dwarf-like alien.
Concept 1:
4â10 creature with 4 arms, tough circular padding on knees and elbows, with a haircut resembling season 10 HermitCraft skin, complete with a purple visor.
Rejected Features:
1. Curling into a call like a Goron and rolling around.
2. Charcoal black cracked hands that ran up to arms.
Gem
In the beginning I had Gem look more like her dnd character. It worked for a while and helped establish the baselines.
Concept 1:
Dark purple skin, dark red hair, purple/pink crystal antlers that could blossom crystal flowers, with normal legs and, 5 fingers. Also had her left hand with crystal like scar and left eye a dark blue/black.
Concept 2:
Dark purple skin, dark red hair, purple/pink crystal antlers that could blossom crystal flowers, with normal legs and, 5 fingers.
Concept 3:
Dark purple skin, dark red hair, floppy deer ears, with normal legs, and 5 fingers. Could see in dark with red pupil eyes and with black sclera. Felt like a retextured human.
Rejected Features:
Tail like a tiefling
Triple small horns
Deer lower half (I did not feel like a space centaur)
Skizz
Iâll be honest, I did not want to make Skizz an Angel design at first. I donât know, I just didnât feel an angel in space at first.
Concept 1:
Large brown and orange tone alien with big belly, Shrek like ears, no hair at all, snout nose, and beady eyes.
Concept 2:
Tall stone grey alien with 6 white wings, 4 earwings, 2 eyes, and geometric markings running across body.
Concept 3:
Bluer skin alien with 4 grey wings, 2 wingears, 3 eyes, and still had the geometric markings at the time.
Rejected Features:
Bird feet
Bird head
Scar
Scar was by far the most challenging. I kept making a design, disliking it, making a new one, and then disliking that one.
Concept 1:
Light green skin alien with 3 fingers, had frog like padded fingers, long neck, elegant features, and no hair.
Concept 2:
Aquatic sandy yellow alien with 4 webbed fingers, webbed feet, with fins on arms, thighs, and head, and bioluminescent markings.
Concept 3:
Half aquatic blueish grey alien with retractable fins and could breathe on land and sea. Long and lanky. Webbed 4 fingers but dropped the feet. Fins were actually orange at the time. Bioluminescent markings.
Concept 4:
No longer an aquatic alien anymore. Greyish blue skin, fluffy white hair, green eyes, 4 non-webbed hands, had gliding wings like a flying squirrel. Pink scars as well for some reason.
Rejected Features:
Did not want an aquatic tail
Bonus: Jelly
Sheâs a cat. You think that it wouldnât be that hard. No. Did a few designs.
Concept 1:
Actually jelly cat that looked like a cat but could walk through bars as the alienâs body move around the bars. Like jello.
Concept 2:
Big rounder face cat with a paintbrush tail. But this just looked like a retextured cat. Jelly is not a retextured cat.

Here is a more detailed version of each alien character. Iâll have another post about the rejected versions I had before.
Impulse
Standing at 4â8, Impulse is considered tall for his species. He has broad shoulders to help balance his 4 arms with 6 fingers.
Impulse has brown hair with a brown beard. He has 2 short curved horns on his forehead. Rounded ears, regular eyes, and human like face.
Special feature Impulse has are these brown dust-like cluster areas that are at his joints. More so the elbows, knees, and shoulders rather than the finger joints. There are embedded rock-like that are slightly sticking out. These areas are actually act like natural armor.
Gem
Gem is a brightly colored alien with her lavender skin, dark purple speckles on her hairline and shoulders, vivid red hair, and bright green eyes. She stands at 5â3.
Cool thing about her eyes is that she has double eyelids. Her ears are long and sharply angled, each one splitting near the end into two distinct tips, the upper extending slightly farther than the other.
Now she has 2 legs however she has a slightly elevated stance, her heels rarely touching the ground. She has no need for shoes, as she has a smooth, split contact surface. Hoof-like structure to help ya picture it more. Her legs are not a full Z like structure but they are not straight either.
Skizz
Skizz has black hair and 4 blue eyes. 2 regular sized eyes where eyes normally go with 2 smaller ones below and slightly offset to the side. The smaller eyes are normally half-lidded.
Skizz also has 2 off white earwings, right where one would find ears. These earwings are very expressive.
Skizz has a broad, solid, body structure. He has a deep slate-tone with scars mainly on his arms. He has 5 fingers.
Finally, Skizz are 4 off-white wings. The upper pair, when spread out, go past Skizzâs arm stretch. Meanwhile his lower set just cut short of his arm stretch.
Scar
Being the lanky, tall, alien that he is, Scar stands at 6â1. Scar has an overall light-blue tone with light blue scars all over. He has green eyes, sharp pointy teeth, and pointy ears to match. Scar also has 4 fingers.
Scar has 2 membrane wings extending from his back. When spreading out his arms and wings, Scarâs wings barely past his elbows.
Scarâs wings were never meant for flying, only gliding. His wings are tattered, edged uneven, with small tears that never healed quite right.

The moment he said yes, the aliens whooped in celebration. No. The GIGS whooped, loud enough that Grian flinched in his seat. They left soon after that, voices overlapping as they talked about repairs, most of it going over Grianâs head. The only thing he caught was that theyâd be back in the morning with their own ship.
That night he tried getting some sleep, but he just ended up tossing and turning all night. The âwhat ifsâ haunted him, dragging him from the edges of sleep. Honestly, he wasnât surprised when the roar of a ship split through the quiet, rattling the walls and jolting Grian wide awake as he stumbled out of bed.
One member of the GIGS, Skizz, if Grian had it right, announced their presence again. He told âMangoâ not to worry. In no time, the ship wouldnât be running on emergency power, and they would be back soon.
Half an hour passed before the lights and buttons lit up as the ship hummed with power. A low vibration running through the floor. However, Grian didnât hear the GIGS return after that. He tried waiting, listening for them to come back. Straining for any sound beyond the hum of the ship.
One minute passed.
Then two.
Then ten.
Then more.

Chapter 4 (Weâre Calling That a Win) Sneak Peak:
âGosh, darn it. Why wonât you just stay- stay!â Scar hisses, cutting himself off mid-ramble about galactic zoos. Something clatters to the floor. âDang it,â he grumbles. âThatâs the third time. Third! Same panel!â
Tools clink. Scarâs probably back at the panel again.
âSay, Mango,â Scar says, like the thought just hit him. âWhat do you do all day, anyway?â
A pause.
â-not that you donât do anything! I mean-â Scar rushes to correct. âLike⌠when weâre not here, what do you do? Just⌠think ship thoughts?â
Grian bites the inside of his cheek. He should stay silent. An AI wouldnât answer that.
Grian hesitates, then activates the speaker.
Still.
Itâs been a long time since heâs had a real conversation. And itâs not like one answer will give him away.
âŚRight?

A dull thud echoes, followed by the scrape of something metallic being shifted outside. âOkay, doors are not responding and the thrusters are down. The engine looks good-â a quick tap against metal, â-we just have to clean them. Navigationâs corrupt, security is fine. The AI is active but on the glitchy side. Got some missing internal plating and wires, â another light knock, âbut we can definitely fix this.â The alien, Dippledop, explains.
âAwesome! How long are we talking?â Skizz begins to ask but Grianâs mind catches on one word Dippledop said.
Security.
Slowly, carefully, Grian rises from his seat. If thereâs security then there has to be cameras. He moves towards the console as quietly as he can. Maybe if he can get the cameras working, he can figure out who heâs dealing with.
Eyes focused on the console, his hands hover above the unfamiliar buttons. Heâs about to click a yellow one when his elbow knocks into a tool he had sitting on the console. The tool clatters to the ground, all too loud.
Grian freezes and so does the conversation outside. Movement answers him. Low shuffling, a series of clicks and the faint scrape of something solid against metal.
Grian holds his breath.
Silence.
Then-
âHello?â Scar calls out, his voice careful now. âWhoâs there?â
Summary of Definitely a Real AI:
Being in space and far from Earth, Grian makes his grand escape and the result lands him in the worst possible lie that he has put himself in. Maybe telling this new group of aliens that heâs an AI wasnât the smartest choice. Now he has to deal with whatever is thrown his any next.
