    âThaâs when ya should be mosâ afraid. Especially when sheâ starâs tryinâ.â {/Meaning because she canât pick him up, sheâd only be able to take him off his feet. Poor Light would go down so hard and probably hurt himself. Or rather, itâd be his sister hurting him. As the smallest person in her own household, she had to learn different ways to use her body to take her brothers down when they got to be too much to handle. Especially when angry. Light might be laughing now, but nothing was scarier than an angry short person.}
    âEh, sometimes they trip me up when they starâ usinâ numbers thaâ ainâ in tha practice problems. Like fractions âer decimals. WhichâŚ..decimals are easy anâ convertinâ âem from to anâ fro ainâ buâ so hard. Iâs more workâŚbuâ. Ainâ no one goâ time fer thaâ.â {/Nicole didnât like all that extraneous work. Sheâd rather just focus on her own studies and hobbies for the moment. Besides, itâs not like she couldnât get a job. Nicole likes to think she does a fairly decent job with people! Sheâs got great people skills. Minus when her impulses to fix and solve take over. They werenât often, and werenât even a real issue. It was that natural friend instinct to just instantly do things. Nicole just has to remind herself that Light isnât her friend.
    Being forward was in her nature. As it was almost on the level of breathing, honesty and forwardness were the best things ever. Sure, feelings might get hurt, people might be annoyed, but at least Nicole had naught but the best intentions at heart. Could anyone really fault her for simply wanting to be useful and helping someone else out? They could hate the action, but not the motivation.
    When he mentions his name, and how he found the confusion on it funny, she wanted to agree, but she couldnât. Instead he was met more with a confused look from her. No, she didnât understand. She couldnât read his name in the slightest unless he wrote it down and pointed it out to her.}
âMy name is prolly more common than yers. Buâ, thaâs jusâ whaâ makes yer name more special! Ya know?â
    {/She could understand his plight. Comments on her accent and her food could become wearisome quite fast. Especially when its all that people seem to talk about or mention when theyâre with her. Even so, when he mentions her rabbits, much to her surprise that he remembered, she gives a quick nod. There was no way sheâd leave her rabbits at home for that long, and no way sheâd leave them without care either.}
âYeah! Really reliable kinda guy. Plus, he looks super tough. So ainâ no one gonna mess wiâ him âer my bunnies.â
 ă â ă    Light was... perhaps more modest when it came to approaching others, though that could be attributed to a general disinterest in his peers. He had plenty of friends who he could call up to hang out at any time, but most of them had a tendency to bore Light to tears. Perhaps natural magnetism could be the reason why people stuck around him even after weeks of him turning down offers to hang out in favour of âstudying.â Or, perhaps more accurately, passing judgement. College was, without a doubt, a step up from high school and required more of his attention, but Light couldnât afford to slack when it came to his duties as god of the new world, either.
      âWell, I guess thatâs all that matters. As long as heâs trustworthy and keeps your pets safe, then thatâs counts, right? Iâve never had a pet, so I canât really empathise. The most Iâve ever had someone look after for me is a CD or a textbook, but I donât think thatâs really the same thing -- haha!â Dammit. It was times like this that Light could really say he was sorry for how well he could keep up the cheerful act. Somehow he thought that someone like Aizawa or especially Matsuda wouldnât be able to keep someone interested in conversation when they were as ticked off as Light felt.Â
   Heh ---- it really must be a bad situation if he was admiring Matsuda, huh?
   âHonestly, I donât even know where Inaba is, and thatâs saying something, since Iâm pretty handy with geography. It sounds Japanese though, right? So it must be in Japan. A small town? I canât say Iâve been to many of those.â
    Light couldnât say that he cared, either, but he had to reason to tell this girl to leave. âThe thought of a tough guy looking after some bunnies is kind of funny, though. With you I could see it, but maybe thatâs because you look a little like a bunny yourself!â Another laugh, to make it clear that he was joking before sombre hues rest on the other. âLook ---- do you want to sit down? I feel a little awkward sitting around with you standing. You can bring your coffee, too. That way we can continue our conversation with a little more comfort.âÂ
      âIâll be okay! Big Bro said heâd protect me, Iâve also got daddy, and then he told me that mommy was watching over me from Heaven! So IâmâŚ..triâŚ..trippâŚtripped protected!â Of course she was nervous. But Nanako knew that fear couldnât stop her. If she let her fears stop her, nothing would ever get done. Then everything would fall on her dadâs shoulders, and heâd be even more stressed than usual. She couldnât let that happen. She wouldnât.Â
     âHmmâŚ.Big Bro might be with his friends. Heâs with his friends a lot. UhmmmâŚ..Teddie! I could call Teddie!â But first, sheâd need to find a pay phone. Did Nanako have enough money on her to do so? Taking a moment to look in the pocket of her dress, she pulled out a small handful of yen. Just anything that would let her make a phone call. A small hum of thought could be heard from the child as she stared at the change in her hand for a bit before letting it fall back into her pocket, and she returned to staring at the man before her.
     âBut I can get home easy! I know how to get there. I justâŚâŚI wanted to be a detective like my daddy for a day. And find out where my Big Bro is always going. ButâŚthe clues are too hard.â
 ă â ă    âTrippedâ protected? It didnât take a genius to know that she meant âtriple,â but ---- ah, dammit! That wasnât what was important here. Light wanted to get home and study, but he couldnât just leave a child here now that he knew she was alone and searching for someone ... Regardless, though, Light thought as he pushed slender fingers against his brow to think (and to hopefully ease the headache he was already getting) he wasnât well-equipped for this at all.
    âHey, uh,â he started, glancing down the street before returning his attention to the girl. âAre you sure you know how to get home? My dadâs a police officer, so if youâre lost or if itâs an emergency, then--...â Light stopped when she seemed to occupy herself, digging in her pockets for ... yen? Ah... this was irritating, but thereâs nothing he could do about it.Â
    Heâd try again. âUh----are you trying to buy something?â Maybe because heâd been a studious kid his entire life, Light couldnât quite understand the meaning of âwanting to be a detectiveâ in the sense that Nanako meant. He never really played pretend -- it was always just one goal after another, until he achieved something greater. âSorry. I just find it hard to believe that a kid is wandering the streets for no reason. I wouldnât feel right just leaving you.â
       ( ;definesacrifice. )
He stumbled upon the other by chance, reallyâblending into the crowd with only a few odd stares. His days of impersonating the Worldâs Greatest Detective came to an end after that bitter day of failure, though he did resemble him in certain ways; huge budging eyes, hunched figure, messy jet black hair, and pale complexionâthough his skin was marred with what seemed to be scars, barely visible beneath a layer of make - up to cover his flawed features.
The dancing numbers and characters above peopleâes names no longer became a distraction to the male, growing up with such an oddity. Growing up with the ability to see death was both a gift and a curse: it had aided him during his almost perfect plan, but it had warped his mind at a young age.
So, when he noticed a head clear of numbers and a name, it had startled him enough to stop in his tracks. Stepping forward and interrupting the otherâs path, Beyond duck himself down. Bug eyes peered up above his head, searching expectantly for what he considered his little friends. When he had, in fact, confirmed the lack of a time and name, eyes widened in curiosity.
          â Very interestingâŚ. â â He hummed, pushing the meat of his thumb against his lip as he peered shamelessly at the other like a scientist staring at a specimen in study. As it seemed, personal space was also a lost concept to the eccentric man.
Just because he no longer imitated Lawliet did not mean he picked up the quirks as his own; there was a fine line between the two opposites, but he often found it blurred together. Â
 ă â ă    Studying in university seemed, so far, to be much like studying in high school. Overall, Light was unimpressed, though the increased challenge in post-secondary plus the addition of the Death Note was succeeding in making his life just that much more interesting. He could work with this, Light thought -- it wasnât so bad now, since he had the power to judge the people of the world. Since then, heâd seen the effects of Kira first-hand, both amongst his peers and in the public -- in the news, people were beginning to acknowledge Kiraâs existence, instead of referring to them as an âunexplained series of heart attacks among the worldâs most hardened criminals.â
     The proof of that was in that the police had called in L, the worldâs greatest detective. Heâd lost one battle to the enimatic detective, but he wasnât going to lose the war.Â
     Light was planning out his next moves -- the cameras and wiretaps had been removed from his room, but that alone made it certain that he was under surveillance. He couldnât risk that again -- if heâd been caught more off guard or hadnât done enough testing with the Death Note, then the absence of major criminals being killed would have certainly pointed suspicions to him ---- more than they already were. If he was caught unawares again, then ...
      â.... Hm?â
     ... This was ... weird. Not to mention creepy. Brows draw together and lips purse for a moment as Light givess the man a chance to explain himself and, when he doesnât lets his lips twitch up in a polite smile and cants his head, as if it was curiosity and not irritation he felt. âExcuse me. Can I help you with something?â

                 Thereâs a war outside and               itâs taking names from behind us!
    Matsuda .........
      Had he truly exceeded her expectations, providing a facade isnât all that difficult. Perhaps they both hold that similarity of âfinding to pose as something they werenât aggravatingâ. For now, playing this school girl routine was her only solution which made an important question. What was he truly like at home? Noâ she wouldnât resort to the whole stalker persona in any manner. But if she had an opportunity to pay a visit to his home, then thatâll offer her curiosity. Aside from what she truly was, this man â Light Yagami, was interesting. Ah, his expressions though demonstrated an obvious contradiction.Â
      Nervously responding, her tone didnât differ in any manner && continued this farce. At least he had some mannerisms. âA-Ah, thatâs right!! Itâs Sato-san ⌠uhm well âŚâ Before resuming, something else managed to peak her interest. Not good with names ⌠well that was odd. âOh itâs perfectly acceptable. I mean, y-you canât expect to remember so many names. Itâs a hard task, e-even for me.â That was her own fair little fib. Of course, as being someone who she truly is, names arenât difficult. But there was an amount of truth: whatever interests her is easy enough to remember. In his case, it was either the truth or a lie. Why have the need to reinforce that statement once again? She never asked for it. âRight, uhm ⌠we do have one class together. B-But like I said, you didnât notice because Iâm clearly not t-that special. Anyways, the class is criminal law for the mornings. I-I sit in the corner in the front row seat. You probably didnât spot me because it wasnât worth it, right?â
  ă â ă   âSato-san, is it?â Light repeats in the same easygoing tone and feeling the name stick neatly into his mind, as it should. Not that he would ever kill a girl like this. He had to avoid writing the names of people he knew in the Death Note, because that would only put his school on the radar -- not to mention that there was no reason to do so to begin with. Being air-headed was hardly a crime, and heâd really have is work cut out for him if he decided to eradicate those from the Earth. Indeed, if she was as earnest and hard-working as she seemed, then she had every right to occupy the New World that Light was going to create.Â
      âIt would be hard, though, wouldnât it? You say youâre in my Criminal Law class? That class has, what, approximately a hundred and ninety students, right? Can you imagine memorizing all those names? I doubt even the teacher does it before the term is over.â Though, of course, they knew about Light -- getting a score of one hundred in every class was reason enough to be recognised. He laughed, though, light-heartedly, because thereâs no reason to be mean. âHey, donât be so hard on yourself!â Light isnât really one for pep-talks, especially towards strangers, but theyâre also a useful way to gain allies or notoriety or appreciation from his peers -- a useful currency that could be spent later if he needed it, and costed almost nothing to produce. âMost of the time Iâm just looking at my notes, so I donât really know a lot of people in our class at all. I sit right in the middle, but Iâll be sure to say hi to you if I see you, now that weâre acquainted and all.â Or, more likely, he would play deaf and blind and keep her completely in his blind spot. â--- Youâre studying criminal law, though? Are you interested in pursing law enforcement, then? Or is it just an interest of yours?â
                  â ⌠â
  he doesnât like that answer. a fringe overshadowed the upper half of his face; vision gleaming past an umbra with a glare. it was cold, with daggers of vex sharp shooting the path of his attention.                           â I see. â   his voice was tranquil, as if to mask how annoyed he was underneath the smooth tone. instead of loosening the tension in his facial muscles to give the facade that he was understanding, he simply looked away.                          â I suppose that makes sense. â
  ă â ă   He doesnât like the look that he gets there, but he canât quite place what it is about it. Itâs too hard of a look -- not quite suspicious but far from trusting. Lâs words are understanding enough, but Light knows better than to trust what people -- especially people like L -- say outright.Â
   A sigh passes his lips, because though his argument raised an important part, itâs impossible to have an argument or a discussion if one party shuts themselves off.Â
  It doesnât really matter, though, because Light isnât Kira, and it it really comes down to it he can prove it. Pushing it now will only make him look more suspicious so, lifting his mug of coffee to his lips, Light decides to let L think about it.
â â Woah. That sounded like a note of anger, and itâs so rare for that to arise in Light that Touta realises, without coercion, heâs screwed up. After all, it isnât easy to get on Lightâs nerves, but that must be why he inadvertently pushes it â and the situation thrust upon Lightâs shoulders must be more difficult than he lets on.
 âIâm â sorry, Light. Iâm just trying to keep an eye out for you, you know? Nobody else seems to.â The one man whoâd been best equipped for doing so is dead but Touta finds that thought upsetting to dwell on, even if he has no right to. A hand lifts to his temple, sheepishly pushing back hair that slithers back into place again anyway.
 âI wouldnât really go without you. That would be even more boring, so⌠I can help with whatever youâre doing here!â He speaks as though the suggestion surprises even him. âI just feel useless lately, seeing everyone else working. The main thing I had going for me was making sure youâre okay, but I guess you donât need that any more.â Though heâs hardly bitter about it. Always knowing what to do is Lightâs speciality.
   ă â ă   Light only heaves a sigh in response, because the detectiveâs apology is enough to placate him for now, but thereâs no way to repair the damage thatâs already been done. His concentration is shot, as is his mood, and the silence heâd been enjoying was thoroughly destroyed. Heâd tell himself that it might be better to just take a breathe now, if the thread of Matsudaâs company didnât loom over his shoulder much like Matsuda does now.Â
   Whatâs he doing, anyway, bringing that up here? The end of his smallest finger presses against his lip as Light remembers -- reluctantly, almost as much as Sayu was with homework -- those who once took care of him. Itâs Soichiroâs -- his dadâs -- own fault that he got himself killed, because he couldnât write two words in a damned book. Couldnât kill in a kill-or-be-killed world. It was his own fault, really.Â
   "Iâm sure thereâs something you could do,â though the note of confidence in his voice doesnât quite match the one he feels -- or doesnât. He doesnât really want Matsuda snooping around, even if there isnât a scrap of evidence anywhere this guy could find it -- all the information is stored away to be used later ... â--- You know, I was always told hat finding work is half the job --â He turns around, and his smile is an echo of what it had been not five years ago, â-- so if you canât do that, then youâre halfway useless.â  And he laughs like itâs a joke to take away the bite and adds that âThatâs what my mom always used to tell me, anyway.â

â â âWow, the Chief talks about me?â Sure, he might currently be inside the Yagami residence, but he could never quite believe the officer he respected more than anyone thought much about him. âGood things, I hope! Though Iâve been told about you, too, and youâre like a kid genius or something, right?â That appealed drastically to Toutaâs sense of the unusual. âYou could be anything you want, so I guess we should be relieved youâre following in your dadâs footsteps.â
  ă â ă   âSure he talks about you, Matsuda-san. He works with you, after all. Nothing bad, really. I did hear about the time you spilled coffee on your notes, though.â  He laughs a little before shaking his head modestly. âIâm not really a kid genius, you know? I just know how to study. The real battle begins when I get into To-Oh -- then weâll see how much Iâm cut out for it.â Lips pull into a little smile as Light adjusts his cuffs before settling his gaze back on his visitor. âIâm pretty confident, though, so I hope youâll stick around to show me the ropes.â
âJealous?â She said, amused. âWhat about the girls getting jealous that Iâm dating Mr. âTop Scoreâ Yagami. At least no one is going to get violent over that.â Truth to be told, she already knew some of the reactions. Some guys accused her of being easy, and some scoffed at her. Then again, boys like them didnât matter.
 ă â ă   âHeh, I guess youâre right about that,â he says, and thereâs laughter in his voice, because beneath his ego it is funny. Still, amber eyes lift to glance sidelong at Kiyomi from beneath a fringe of hair. His chin rests atop his palm, and the hand on the table spins his pen absently. âItâs only natural, though, right? Iâm sure you wouldnât settle for anyone who wasnât as smart as you, Kiyomi.â

definesacrifice started following you and youâre now crying accurate y/n?
   âC - H - I - L - L !! What does that spell?? Something you donât fucking    have. Seriously, calm t-f down youâre like twelve.â
     There is no time to chill when he has a world to purify. Besides, coming from a weird bear, the insult means nothing.Â
â â Itâs the Chiefâs kid (the one with the stupid name)! Better play it cool. "Ah â yeah. He told me to come back after work and I can never say no to the Chief! Are you going to join us this time, Light?â
  ă â ă   âWell, I do have a lot of studying to do, but itâs not that often that dadâs home for dinner, so maybe Iâll just postpone it and stay up a little later tonight. Besides,â he says, and almond hues lock onto the other man. âIt might be nice to get to know some people from the force!
