Tell us a little about when and why you started producing music.
I started playing the trumpet at age 11, which established my passion for music in general. I have always thoroughly enjoyed playing instruments, and that has likely contributed to my interest in production.  I started producing music electronically when I was about 13 years old, after discovering a program called “Cakewalk”. I received a pirated version of the program from a friend, and he showed me the basics. I fell in love with making tunes, and I started exploring different techniques and eventually different programs. I think my fascination with producing music is the absolute creative control anyone can have. It is kind of like modern-day composing to me, where the producer is the composer.
Who/what are you musical influences (dance music or other)?
Ah, the musical influence question… Of course… Where can I begin? I spent several years as a Jazz Musician, a Punk Rocker, several more as a Deadhead, and then discovered Infected Mushroom and Shpongle long before I fell in love with House Music. (Not to mention whatever else I was listening to in between...) I always like to keep it simple and say, “I like good music”. In my opinion, there will always be some good and some bad of all types of music. (With the exceptions being Gabber and this bullshit trashy Electro that the tweens love.)
You moved from the east coast to Lake Tahoe. What are some of the best things about living in Tahoe?
Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, and I am lucky to live in this gorgeous part of the good ol’ US of A. Obviously the skiing is incredible here, despite our lack of snow the past few seasons… The lake itself is really something to behold in all its lake-y glory. No offense VT, but it makes Champlain look like a mud puddle.
Name one kick ass/fun thing you did in the last 30 days.
I went to one night of the Snowglobe festival in South Lake Tahoe, on Dec. 30th. Although the event itself was very… how do you say… “Custy’d out”? (We felt that we could have gotten more bang for our buck…) My crew still managed to have a grand old time. The true highlight (actually I’ll tell you about the true highlight another time off the record) was when I got to meet J. Phlip (Dirtybird) and she gave me her phone number so I could get on the guest-list at her next show in San Francisco! That certainly made me feel special, and my friends jealous.
2015 is here. Looking into your crystal ball, make a prediction.
My crystal ball broke years ago, but I will give it a shot…  I predict that The Backstreet Boys will come back with a vengeance. BACKSTREET’S BACK, ALL RIGHT!!!
With the New Year always comes a bunch of goals and resolutions. What’s your 2015 goal?
I am definitely trying to put a lot more focus into my music this year. Every year it becomes clearer to me that music is essential to my life. Its time I start shaping a career around it, I think.
What is one club/event you would like to visit?
The first thing that comes to mind is the BPM festival. I am always very jealous of my friends who have attended the past few years… The extensive list of world-class DJs on the lineup is just amazing. And it seems to just get better every year too. Plus my good friend Beth lives and works there!
What’s your favorite beer?
That is a very difficult question. If we are talking every-day drinking beer, then I think I would say Lagunitas IPA. But I don’t think that is the best beer I have ever had by any means. There are just too many with so many variables… That’s like asking, “What’s your favorite song?”
Whats hot right now for Jime Time?
Musically I have really been listening to a wide variety of stuff lately. I have been trying to make a point to listen to some stuff that I never think of, or just haven’t listened to in a while. I have so much music, and I’m sure you can relate to constantly acquiring more. Sometimes it’s really great to just stop looking for what’s new for a minute and go through what you already have. I am finding a bunch of gems that I had completely forgotten about! I always stay up to date on my Dirtybird catalogue, and they are always adding new and fantastic artists to their lineup. One artist (not on Dirtybird) that consistently stays “hot” for me is Andreas Henneberg. His production blows me away time and time again. I’ve also been digging the label Katermukke a lot these days, particularly the artist Midas 104. Check them out if you don’t know!
Other than music though, it is ski season, so I’m trying to ski as much as possible on the small amount of snow that we have out here. Better than nothing, though, and I’m having lots of fun!
As always, the Pop Music scene has got me down… I choose to ignore it as much as I can, but sometimes it breaks my defenses. Also, ice is not hot.
What would you like to say that we haven’t covered?
I’m looking forward to producing a lot more in the near future and pursuing my life as an ace DJ selling out exclusive clubs worldwide. I am psyched to have my first release with Default Rejects Records, and it has provided me with plenty of inspiration! I want to thank you, Rob, and all my friends back home in VT, because I wouldn’t be here without all of your help and support! Who Do You Know?!
