My go-to increase in stocking stitch is the make one increase, but the lifted increase shown here is also a very good alternative, when you are looking for nearly invisible symmetrical increases in stocking stitch.

This is a very interesting knit, a little tricky, but not too complicated. I have about 20g yarn left over, which is a little more than I'm happy with, but I didn't feel like ripping it all back to make the shawl bigger, and I like the colour progression in the finished piece, so it's fine. As you can see from the timestamps, this took forever; I started a different shawl pattern first but miscalculated, got frustrated and frogged the whole thing when I was about 2/3rds done. That ended up being a good decision; I'm really happy with how this turned out.

In stocking stitch, a good ratio is to pick up 5 stitches per 8 rows: [knit, knit, skip, knit, knit, skip, knit, skip] and repeat.
