Once a mama’s boy…

I think it’s significant that Alastor pays for his drink right away instead of starting a tab (like most people do at bars).

From time to time, he picks it up and twirls it between his fingers, with whiskey or a cigarette in the other hand. He stares at this tangible evidence that selflessness and compassion are real. And as big and wide and ever-expanding as the universe is, there’s still enough softness l in the three worlds left that even someone like him can experience it. Maybe…

Alastor trying to convince Emily to come over to the dark side because they’re alike in wanting to rebel, in wanting freedom. But his version of freedom is selfish, hers is selfless. Then she challenges him, and argues HE should come over to the light, saying that deep down, there’s a good man, and one day curiosity will lead him into wanting to do the right thing and be a hero.

And it’s actually the fact that she saved him and is the only one truly putting her money where her mouth is that will be the seed of this “curiosity”.
