Embarrassing Deepworld moments (part one)
We’ve all made a fool of ourselves at some stage, even if its just making a hilarious typo. It doesn’t make you a ‘noob’, but it certainly makes you feel like one. I feel as though I make more of a fool of myself than the average person. Take the top photo, for instance. I placed down an onyx mass teleporter to test it out, without realizing I’d not be able to relocate it to a different position. Incidentally, Hoenn now has an onyx mass teleporter.
Here’s a few more from me:
I never claimed to be a ‘pro’ player. But once you reach a certain level and own some onyx equipment, people make the assumption for you. To be honest, I was playing like the apocalypse survivors we were supposed to be: I’d dig my way around public worlds and plunder goods to level my way up. It wasn’t until I bought a world of my own, much later, that I had to learn some basic techniques. Once there was a world competition that required you to build a factory centered around a theme. To do this, you had to claim a protector. This was all fine, but I didn’t understand just how big the playing area was. So I made a teeny-tiny dungeon. After the competition I discussed this with a friend. He reached over, pressed the ‘,’ key, and voila! There was my protector range. Ouch.
Then there were the times I had to race to facebook to beg my dear friend Everywhen for help with engineering (target teleporter setups, door switches, and the like). Once another friend rigged up a beautiful reset circuit for a tricky warehouse I was trying to build. To this day, I haven’t had the courage to ask how he did it.Â
And now from the genius engineer Everywhen (just to prove even the seasoned players had some rough beginnings):
I’d drastically over-estimate or under-estimate an item’s price. It doesn’t help that Deepworld economy is a rather uncertain fare. I could tell from one of two ways: The person would be eager to sell, or would laugh in my face and jetpack off to a worthier buyer. I tend to overestimate these days – let them think I’m generous.
To this day the one thing that bites me when I think about it was when I traded a mega protector... for a plaque. Yeah...
So there’s the embarrassing moments that stick in our memories - what about you? Feel free to share!
