you told your neighbor he could come over anytime for help… but he didn’t know you just meant math problems.
you scrolled mindlessly on pinterest, listening to the music you put on to help you study. all it took was one tik tok edit your friend sent for you to abandon your textbooks to doom scroll. the minutes ticked by, as your final loomed closer. you tried to excuse it, putting so much faith in the fact that if you just “saw it on the test” you’d remember.
it was bullshit and you knew it. but god these niche aesthetic posts could be so addicting.
it only took an hour of scrolling for a sense of doom and despair to start kicking in. if you failed this final, you would not only have to retake this class, you’d also be back an entire year since you couldn’t take your required classes without this prerequisite completed. plus you swore you’d kill yourself before you’d let your GPA drop below a 3.7.
you sighed, deciding to hide all your electronics and stare at your books until the words blended. you got up and placed your phone and laptop in your bathroom, before locking it and placing the key under the couch. it was definitely a bit drastic but, you’ve jumped over more hurdles in the past just to be able to check your texts.
you settled in at your desk instead of your bed, knowing yourself too damn well. you reluctantly flipped open your orgo textbook, attempting to find where you left off. as your finger made contact with the correct page, you heard a slight tapping at your window. your head shot up, glancing towards your window.
you were far from stupid and also far from the ground floor, so you can’t really explain why you looked back when you knew there was nothing there. after quickly confirming there was nothing there with a scan, you turned back to your book and locked onto the first few words.
you hadn’t been more than two paragraphs in when the tapping returned, a bit more rapid and… desperate this time. you hadn’t even had enough time to debate if it was just in your head when the tapping- er knocking returned. it couldn’t hurt to check, right?
you promptly stood up, convincing yourself it was just a hurt bird accidentally slamming into your window. with almost no fear, you pulled open your sheer curtains and unlocked your window. you hesitantly pulled open the window, peeking out onto the fire escape.
there was no bird below you, and definitely not above you. but there was a man besides your window. in a red and green suit. great.
you gasped loudly, jumping back in surprise. you could’ve sworn the ladder for the fire escape was pulled up. and you would hope you hadn’t pissed anyone off to the point where they’d go all vigilante on you.
you watched in horror as the masked man began to step into your bedroom. you scrambled to grab your heavy ass textbook, as he fully entered your room. you raised the book in defense, your eyes taking in the details of the suit. though damaged and ripped in spots, it was hard to miss the arachnid detailing.
“who are you! why the fuck are you in my room!”
“i’m uh spiderm-“
before he could get his name out, you chucked the book at him. you lost a little bit of faith in your skills as you watched him catch it with ease. you don’t miss the way he winces as he lowers his arm.
“no shit your spiderman! get the fuck out!”
he seems to hesitate, prompting you to loom for something else to throw at him. it takes you reaching for your chair for him to speak up.
“okay! okay… it’s izuku.” he finally confesses. when he notices that you still haven’t dropped the chair, he rips off his mask. you drop your chair as your brain finally pieces everything together. your nerdy neighbor with engangig green eyes is spiderman. huh.
right as you start coming up with questions to ask him, he drops to his knees, clutching his shoulder. you promptly follow, meeting him at his level. you don’t touch him, in fear of making things worse.
“why are you here, midoryia? you should be in a hospital?”
“i couldn’t really show up like this, let alone explain what happened.”
“so you chose my bedroom… right.” your brows furrowed in concern, partly in judgment of his very stupid actions. you scan his injuries, debating on grabbing that bathroom key and calling 911.
“you said i could come over any time for help, and i definitely need help.” he awkwardly laughs, cutting himself off as he groaned in pain. “plus, aren’t you studying to become a doctor? this is real life experience…”
“when i offered my help I thought you meant a couple of math questions, maybe even a cup of sugar. not bruised ribs and a dislocated shoulder.” you lightly scold. “and im a vet student. i take care of animals.”
“a spider is close enough, isn’t it?”
you stare at him, not really enjoying his badly timed dad jokes. “i don’t know how your suit works, but try and pull it down. i’m going to grab my first aid kit.”
you’re only halfway through the door before you turn back. “don’t get blood on my carpet.”

you moved midoryia to your chair, believing it was the most optimal position to fully dress his wounds. you made sure to remind him multiple times that you aren’t a doctor and could potentially fuck him up more, but he didn’t hesitate to reassure you and your skills.
you actually managed to relocate his shoulder pretty quickly after watching a not-so-quick youtube tutorial. you almost felt bad for telling him to keep quiet through a very painful “procedure” as the sounds that came out of him were…something. but then you remembered the mini heart attack he caused earlier and felt a bit better. you didn’t mind the lip biting though.
you also didn’t mind his chest which was unfortunately covered in cuts and bruises that were just beginning to form. you felt a bit crazy letting your mind run like that, especially when he was in such a vulnerable position. hmm. or maybe that made it better.
you shook your head, diving into the first aid kit. you refocused on your task, disinfecting. you grabbed a small towel and dipped it in the water-soap solution you had brought in before.
“i’m gonna, disinfect your wounds first. it’s probably gonna sting like hell but i’m sure you’ve dealt with worse,” you warned him. he nodded gently, sticking to the small word limit you gave him to minimize pressure on his ribs.
you begin to wash his wounds, keeping your eyes on the task instead of letting them wander. again. you grimace at his whimpers, acting as if you have those cuts too. you try to work quickly, a bit eager to get it over with. as soon as each cut is covered with antibiotics, you press a bandage over them. by the time you finish, the exhaustion he tried to hide is more apparent.
you stand up, taking off your gloves and tossing them into the trash can. “i’m gonna grab an ice pack and some other things. you obviously need the rest so i’ll try to be quick.”
he nods again, sliding down in the chair trying to be a bit more comfortable. now you're starting to feel bad for not letting him on your bed. you hurry into your kitchen, grabbing two ice packs and a glass for water.
as you fill up the glass, your eyes find their way to your stove. the bullshit you called dinner, rice and fried eggs, still had enough for a serving. it wasn’t gourmet or anything but he could probably use a
meal too.
you somehow balanced the water, painkillers, a bowl, and the ice packs in your hands and made your way back to your room. the poor kid was half asleep when you returned. you tried not to laugh as he pretended he was awake the whole time.
“pain killers first, then you eat,” you instructed. he followed promptly, downing the water in only a few gulps. you decided not to comment on it, as he’s definitely had a night already.
you try not to stare as he eats but you’re still struggling to picture your neighbor as spiderman. you’ve never even seen him raise his voice, let alone fight crime.
“i know you want to ask me something,” he speaks up, finally done with your eyes peering into his entire being.
he wasn’t wrong. you definitely wanted to know how he became this superhero, and who fucked him up this badly. you also wanted to know why he seemed ten times hotter like this, but you couldn’t exactly ask that. so you stuck with what you thought was an easier question.
“how’d you get this injured? like seriously what happened?”
he swallowed sharply, his cheeks slightly flushing. “i’d rather not get into that- today at least!”
“oh um okay… uhm what’s it like? having superpowers that is,” you asked.
izuku happily answered as it's not something he could ever really share. not as izuku, at least. he didn’t miss the way you hung onto every word, genuinely interested in all the aspects of what makes him spiderman.
he was just about to explain the dynamics to his suit when he let out a concerning wheeze. you shook out of it, remembering the own restrictions you had put on his words. “aw shit i forgot. okay no more talking.”
you grab the ice packs, placing one towards his side. you guide one of his hands to hold it there before placing the other on his shoulder. you try to ignore the sudden proximity, reminding yourself that it’s for his own good. you can’t stop yourself from wondering how he has been taking care of himself when just tonight has been a two person job.
“i make do,” he answers softly. your eyes snap to his, which were already on yours.
“i could’ve sworn i-“
“increased hearing. you whispered it. it’s kinda hard not to listen.” he answers, still not moving his eyes. it’s you who breaks eye contact first, slightly embarrassed. you nod your head, letting your eyes find your alarm clock.
2:07. great. you sigh heavily knowing that you’d be heading into your final with only a few hours of sleep. again. izuku seems to catch this, already moving his mouth to ask what’s wrong.
“it’s fine. i kind of have to kick you out though. i have a pretty early morning and about sixteen chapters to finish reading.”
“oh of course!” he stammers, standing up a bit too quickly. you scold him for his rash actions, a bit worried that he’d undo the work you just completed. you let him carry both ice packs, which are still surprisingly cold. he stops you before you could send him off.
“do you have a change of clothes i could borrow?”
“i mean, i’m sure i could find something. why?” he looks at you goofily, tilting his head ever so slightly. your eyes move from his face, down his torso, and stop on his suit. “oh!”
you move towards your drawers digging for something you could assume would fit him. “i can’t take my usual route because of my shoulder. and i know it’s late but someone could still see me in the hallways.” he rambles as you continue your search. you land on an oversized kirby-themed shirt and old sweats you haven’t touched in ages.
you pass him the folded clothes, watching him inspect the size before shrugging. he lets out a thank you before, moving the pull the rest of the suit down. it takes you a good three seconds before you realize you should’ve already been turned around, and not watching him undress. you swiftly turn around, facing your bedroom doors
“a warning could’ve been really fucking helpful,” you call out.
“i just assumed- i mean you’ve basically seen everything you could’ve by now. i mean not everything, but-“
“okay! okay just hurry.”
you walk him to your door after assuring he’s fully clothed this time. you have him a bag to store his suit, and couple things from your first aid kit so he could change out the bandages later on. you pause before you open the door.
“i know i kind of fussed over you dropping in like that earlier. but you shouldn’t have to deal with shit alone. my door- or uh window is always open.”
“i wouldn’t want to burden you! i just couldn’t deal with this one injury alone. i’ve gotten use to patching myself up on my own.” he bursts out, trying to reassure you.
“i mean it when i say it’s not trouble at all. i’d help you even if it was a paper cut.”
