yuki-yamashitaâ:
Whatâs the first rule of missions? Read the memo.
God, she wanted to mock him so badly. To take on his self-righteous tone and pretend to micromanage someone next to her. Read the fucking memo. Thatâs all well and good, and fucking obvious, but it was easier said than done when they gave her approximately thirteen seconds to be ready to leave with them. She had barely had time to change and lock her office door before they were shoving the god damn portkey in her face.
She knew she needed to read the fucking memo, thatâs why she had asked about the fucking memo.
But hit wizard training must have been doing something, because miracle of all miracles she managed to bite her tongue. She was absolutely certain the look on her face said everything she didnât, but she wasnât entirely sure how they were going to fault her for that â her face did what it wanted to do.
âThank you,â she sighed, her teeth were gritted, but she managed not to scowl at him â at least she thought she hadnât. But if her face was twisted into disgust he deserved it. She wasnât an idiot.
She took a deep breath before responding to Theodora. She didnât much mind if Daniel saw her annoyance â if she could keep her mouth shut it was more than most people got from her. He was pretty tolerable, which put him at the top of her list in this country, and she respected him enough. But Theodora was different; the older witch had managed to help her out of a sticky spot or two with the director, and she consistently pushed her to her breaking point. It was how hard she was on her that had Yuki pausing. Running laps was annoying but not enough to convince her to keep her mouth shut. It was the fact that she didnât want to disappoint someone who clearly saw her as someone worth keeping around. The pause was maybe a beat too long before she spoke.  âYouâre right.â
Maybe it hadnât been possible to read the memo in her office, but she could have had it in her pocket, ready to skim during this downtime.
When Theodora glared in her direction she bit down a smile â okay, she had deserved that one.  âI thought Iâd give him a hug, honestly. You think I should try for something a bit more subtle?â That was too much, but she couldnât resist.  âSorry, professional, I know. Iâve got it.â

Read the fucking memo.Â
Daniel could already tell Yuki wanted to mock him. It was no secret she was just like a child. Probably because his wife and him hadnât been able to have their own yet. There were tries of course, but methods proved unsuccessful. He rolled his eyes annoyed at the situation but didnât remark to Theodora as she started to walk off obviously over himself and Yuki at this time. It amused him how his hit wizard daughter seemed to close up around his wife, but he knew first hand how intimidating she could be. Thatâs what made her a good hit wizard after all, and usually they would trade off on the good cap bad cop. Admittedly though, his flashes of bad cop around Yuki werenât much.
However, the times he had been sharp seemed to have surprise the girl into action or made him laugh in his face. There wasnât an in-between unfortunately when it came to it, and they hadnât known each other very long but he knew thatâs just the way she was. He listened to her retort and felt his fingers rub at his temple to aid in the headache he was developing. âYuki.â He commented through gritted teeth, because he hadnât been able to respond to Theo before she vanished. âThis isnât the time to ââ The manâs voice cut off as a splinter of wood from one of the crates had burst apart and through the room.
He was quick to keep his eye out around them. âStop fucking around.â He grumbled grumpily to Yuki as he scanned the room for any sort of sign of what had bothered the wood. Thatâs when his trained eyes landed on the symbol of the crates. All of them held it. Every single last one. Before he could say another word to the girl he was closest enough to a crate that he heard start to creak.
Read the fucking memo didnât work, when it was a fucking trap.
